we've all seen flash pull out the maphacks and scan invisible obs right on the spot. but that was in BW. Is it still feasible to spot invisible units without detection?
1. what graphic setting is best for detecting invisible units?
2. which units are the easiest to spot and when? for example dts are much easier to spot moving than standing still
3. in tournament games, have you seen a player scan the obs and kill it w/o detection? dts are much easier to see, but I have yet to see a player spot the obs
4. is it even worth it to use a scan on the obs? mules bring in roughly 300 if I'm correct and obs cost about half of that

banshees/dts are super easy for me
roaches/infestors kind of tough, i have no tricks
observers i normally scroll down my mouse wheel super quick just to double check (helps against stagnant obs)

1. Graphics all on low, but effects on high is what I heard helps best
2.as long as its moving I pretty much see them all about the same
3.yea all the time
4.and yes the info the other player is getting can be worth A LOT more then simply the cost of and obs or mule

1. Low
2. Don't know most of them are easy if you're paying attention but hard when you're not
3. Yeah.
4. Don't know for certain but if you know he is building colossi it is probably a good idea as he might remake his obs.

Hey read this thread you should put your question there instead of making a new thread:

Sure, it's done quite frequently
1. I think somebody said it's everything to low, textures to high/ultra and shaders to mid, but that might be a myth
2. As far as I'm aware, all the units are equally hard/easy to spot - maybe dt's are easier because they can't fly (spotting burrowed units is significantly harder though)
3. Yeah, quite often actually.
4. Depends if you think it's important to deny scouting / use up robo time (an observer being made takes the spot of a collossus/immortal...) Generally it's worth it I think (though I'm no expert).

No offence, but you clearly haven't watch very many games, Terrans scan Observers all the time. Killing the Observer is better almost all the time, because you're denying your opponent vital scouting information and you can possibly force them to make another one. Gas and robotics build time are normally important for Protoss.

obs costs gas, robo build time and makes toss blind for quite some time, so depeding on the situation it is most of the time worth it.

That trick is an old TLO thing, and the effect he was talking about is no longer there.

Low graphics. They are all easy to see, just need to be watching the right spot. Always scan to kill observers unless you want toss to have perfect arc in all your engagements.

For sure highest gfx is easiest to see, lowest is hardest. Not sure about specifics(different options to change) but the second post sounds pretty accurate

Turn texture quality to high, and all other graphics low.
Patience is a small price to pay for perfection.

if you need confirmation about spotting an obs, you an mousewheel your camera to zoom in, the obs will move along with the camera

I think burrow movement is really difficult to spot. Maybe its cause we're not used to it yet.. but unless you see them burrow, its really hard to neutrally spot them.

Think it was already mentioned, but everything on low and textures as high as you cat get it is easiest

I think it really depends on what you're accustomed too, I used to think low was the way to go to spot them but I've seen players like Drewbie and SeleCT spot and scan observers instantly and I know Drewbie plays on pretty high settings, I've seen him sometime quickly scroll and zoom in before scanning if he has the time, just to make sure.

agreed, DTs, banshees, as well as everything under a mothership (its a huge blob of distorted stuff under that mothership! I wonder what it might be?) are really easy to spot on any quality, but in my opinion obs are a lot harder for two reasons: 1. it's small 2. it's flying so it can "hide" its distortion in places where you are not used to looking, for example on a cliff, its a lot more difficult to find that "that cliff is distorted!" than "the ground is moving!"

and I have heard low quality everything and texture quality being disputed
I'm better today than I was yesterday!
