Geoff clearly is a powerlifter, maybe not competitively right now but he certainly was at one point. I'm pretty sure he'd be the first to point out to bad form to Greg if it was actually bad form. Look up and instructional videos on a powerlifting bench press. You want your back arched. It really is that simple.

His form is completely fine except for not touching his chest (he might have shoulders problems or something that prevents him from doing so) and a lot of people prefer to have their legs drawn back more so they are on their toes and can get better leg drive than being flat footed. You're supposed to arch your back, I get no pain from it whatsoever even with a slipped disk from deadlifting a year ago. The only problem is his elbows are a bit flared and his feet probably aren't drawn back far enough, but Incontrol knows enough about lifting to point these things out.

And that is some serious weight incontrol is throwing around. Idra cheated a bit with the arched back, but 205 is very respectable for someone of his build. these videos legitimately made me like EG more you obviously do not know anything about proper form when it comes to benching, especially power-lifting. the arched back is correct form for bench. arched back is the position in which the back is its strongest. the bench does not only involve the chest. in order to increase bench you must also have a strong back as well as other secondary muscles. pretty much: chest back shoulders and tris in that order. now go lift some heavy weight!!! gogogo not sure if this was mentioned, but geoff put up 425lbs not 435: 4 plates plus bar is 405lbs, plus a ten on each side = 425lbs,,,, made it look ez pz. edit: beat me to it ![]()

But Benchpressing is part of _that_ cuture. In which, putting form over function, trains muscles in isolation. And yes, one can be strong and fat (check out D300 @youtube or the FAQ at Beastskills.com) but you aren't fat as a sign of 'strong core muscles'. That statement is laughable. Btw, One can see when IdrA lifts his back is arched. That puts undue stress on spinal discs and will lead to hernia in the long term. What? Its not profoundly misleading whatsoever. The person in the photo is not "fat" and neither is Incontrol. Both are bulky. Most bodybuilders do in fact not have particularly strong core muscles because they often forego exercises like deadlifts due to widening of the obliques which takes away from a good v-taper. Powerlifters, like Incontrol, also focus on function and that often includes direct strengthening of areas like the core = leads to increased mass in that area = leads to a bulkier waist. Referencing some guy on youtube and beastskills.com doesn't help your credibility. Bench pressing never 'focuses anything in isolation', it's a compound movement so that makes no sense. And if you arch and use leg drive you are doing more weight, but the chest is still getting equal stimulation because either way it is being just as activated if not more so, only the introduction of your lats/leg drive/decreased ROM makes up for the weight beyond the norm.

The point of benching is to not use your other body parts to get the weight up. People who roll on their upper back and arch their feet do it incorrectly. The people that do it best are the ones who tuck their knees into the air or the put their feet on the bench under their butt.
