I received an email last night from Blizz saying my SC2 account pw was changed in the account manager; I did not however change it. Now when I try to log in, my password is invalid.

I logged in for the first time in over a month a few days ago without playing any games. Was in two chatrooms, one being Reddit. I also chatted to someone on my buddy list. Besides that, I did not do anything and logged off after 5 minutes.

How does Blizz handle these cases? What are the chances of me getting my account back?

How did I fall for a fake email when my password was in fact changed? Or did you mean something else?

Just email blizzard, you have 100% chance of getting your account back if you provide the necessary information. You can also look on https://us.blizzard.com/support for more info and help.

It could has been a lot of thing. For example a keylogguer, a fake blizzard email that you responded to, etc. Best thing you can do is just run an anti virus.

Some malware installs keyloggers that specifically target battle.net accounts. Most likely, your account has been used to set up a WoW free trial that's being used to spam or facilitate gold selling or account theft.

First thing to do is get your machine cleaned up. Buy a reputable, up to date antivirus package and scan the fuck out of it.

After that, your best bet is to call Blizzard's account services and follow their instructions. Since you clearly do not play WoW on this account, it will be pretty simple to get your account restored. I'd suggest getting a hardware authenticator or using one of Blizzard's free authenticator phone apps.

What he means is that on the Battle.Net site, there's a "download free WoW trial" button that lets you play for 10 days or some such nonsense. They probably put that on your account for whatever reason, probably advertising gold selling or whatever.

The fake email he discusses always looks like it comes from a legit source, but a good rule of thumb is that if you can click on a link to "confirm/change/whatever" your battle.net account from within the email, its fake (Blizzard emails NEVER have a direct link to battlenet, you have to go to a browser and find it yourself).

Maybe I accidentally clicked on it, but I was never interesting in the WoW free trial.

You said it asks for your bnet account and password? No way I can accidentally type in my bnet account and password for a WoW free trial. Maybe I accidentally clicked on the link, but that's all that would happen in a mistake.

i would stop worrying about how they got it, and focus on contacting blizz to get your account back, and to prevent it from happening again (blizz will recommend the authenticator)

http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/profile/2041986/1/AbilityBunny/

LAWL when losses and wins still counted he had over 36000+ games logged WTF??

What probably happened was that someone got a hold of your email.
They then sent you a message that "your password was changed", and instead of directing you to blizzard's site, they redirected you to a site that looks just like blizzards site, but the difference is once you log into the site, you give them your password.

Whether or not you play WoW, an authenticator will greatly reduce the likelihood of this happening in the future.

My comment about the "free trial" is that there's a systematic practice of stealing battle.net accounts and THEN attaching a WoW free trial to them to use them for spamming in-game if they do not already have an associated WoW account. You do not have to play WoW or have ever touched the game for your battle.net account to have value to these people.

BTW, there are really only three ways that your account can be stolen. Logging in to your battle.net account in response to a fraudulent email is one. Being keylogged is another. Third, it's possible that if you use the same email address and password for other services on the web, some untrustworthy site sold your email/password pair and this was used to get access to your account.

Hope that helps in identifying anything that may have happened on your end so that you can ensure it doesn't happen again.

This 100% happened to me, apparently somebody brute force a bunch of accounts somehow, but ya just change your password again, they don't have your email (your password would never have been sent there). Yes some people lose their account through stupidity or their email getting hacked. Your sc2 account can also get hacked. They will not compensate you for the inconvenience, but they will tell you to get blizzard authenticator. This might even still just be people trying to get into wow accounts and getting SC2 as a result, but this is a real thing, be careful guys and make sure your account is an email you check so you can actually find out if you get hacked.

Screenshot or copy the email you got please.

Accounts don't get really 'hacked' any more these days 99;9% of the case people claim being hacked they were actually being phished.
