In Master's league, how much elo would you say you need to gain in order to maintain your rank? Is gaining your bonus elo (going approx 50-50) good enough to maintain or do you need to out perform your bonus pool gains? Have you ever done any analysis on elo movement relative to bonus pool? I kn ow this will vary week to week depending on how people to in general but could you approximate? Thanks,

I'd guess the latter, but I still don't fully get it. Let's say 2 ppl are being promoted, both having spent 1000 bonus points. So, both are getting 1073 pts in the new leagues (lets say both are put into diamond). But one league has a +150 (tier 1) and the other has +402 (tier 5 from master). So, the MMR of the first player is actually 250 points higher than the MMR from the second player? (or #1 hadn't be placed in a tier 1 league?). So, when creating an adjusted list (like the TOP 200, only for diamond players), player 1 would actually only have 1073-150=923 and player 2 1073-402=671 points? And player 1 would be much closer to be promoted to master? Is this correct or do I miss something? Edit: And I don't understand why this would be really necessary or useful. Why introducing tiers? It only complicates things quite a bit and it leads to ppl having lets say 3000 pts in diamond being worse than ppl having only 2500 in diamond. The tiers only affect your displayed points. You can read the Division Tiers thread for the full explanation of how we discovered them, but basically the idea is that weaker players get a small one-time boost to their points (since they get placed into weaker divisions). The tiers aren't even noticeable to the average user without a unified list like the Top 200, so in that regard it's quite ingenious.

For example, the old Rank-E Diamond division is by far the most common Diamond Division tier. Perhaps this should be Tier 1, with others going above and below it? It still seems somewhat paradoxical that your moving average must also stabilize, as that in itself is a stabilization metric. So what ends up promoting you (according to this) would be something like a moving average average. I remain convinced that your hidden MMR's moving average need only eclipse specific point thresholds to be promoted, but of course I'm still trying to prove it. I think you should add a call to action at the end for players to gather more data to analyze ![]() Hadn't thought of it this way, but it makes a lot of sense. Could this explain why the sub-average divisions exist at all? As to promote players who don't spend this required amount? That's a good point about tier nomenclature, I just numbered them from the top down to make it easier to read. I think I'll leave it as is though, since it really only affects people like us who are actively doing this research. The moving average stabilization thing has to be true because otherwise you would have people getting promoted in the middle of long win streaks, which doesn't happen (or at least isn't common). Naturally I'd enjoy seeing more accurate data from all ranges of players. What I really want to see is examples of players or teams across all leagues that gain exactly +12 points (excluding bonus pool) for a win and causing their opponents to lose exactly -12 points in the same game. =]

Can someone explain why a bronze league player is playing people in gold? Does this system work so that you can go from bronze to gold without the need to go into silver? My account summary: Bronze 1,007 points. Won 66, lost 38 (63.46% wins) And yeah; I have been playing alot of gold league players. http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/profile/912285/1/TURKISHRAMBO/

Even something like from Silver to Diamond is possible. My friend did that on a guest-pass account.
