I fear what this will do for ZvZ. I hated mutas in that matchup. Muta+Baneling is going to be thew new/old shit.

Also protoss air is going to be a pain..

Yey for chat though

Nice patch but the number of balance changes is minimal.. I think the PTR idea is definitely a good one, perhaps the best thing about the patch!

That's a net negative change for SC imo. Zerg needs more interesting spells and more exciting things. Not a roach/hydra ball of death =/.

So everyone's on board with the observe buff though right? Seems alright to me, i suppose.

I don't understand this sudden outcry over the pheonix. It gets a slight
buff and suddenly it too good? It needs energy to attack ground units
and if you really are worried about your ovies just stack them on a spore
or something. Sometimes it feels as the Zerg race has gotten a little too
fond of whining for every little buff another race gets. Though I do feel
that the infestor nerf was a little drastic, perhaps just making it into ensare
gainst air units would be fine. Besides looks like a great patch by blizzard

Phoenix are not actually that good in large numbers at killing ground. +1 phoenix 4 shot hydras, and 4 phoenix kill 5 hydras. However, 8 phoenix do not kill 10 hydra's because the first phoenix to pick up also gets killed extremely quickly, and drops it's target before it's killed, which snowballs. They do retain the role of anti-ovies though, and you can reach the critical number of 4 20 seconds earlier =).

As for the voidray buff, they now only need to be 3attack/1 armor up on a BC to 1v1 it without precharge, or else just 2/1 with charge.

The removal of keyholding makes me very, very sad. How on earth are you going to make 40 zerglings late-game as zerg now?

Don't phoenix also 4shot hydras at +0 +1 +2 and +3? Never really understood the fascination with +1 air attack instead of warp gate tech.

Protoss player here.

Have been wanting a buff for a long time, and for the most of the part I am happy. I think people are blowing the phoenix issue completely out of the water. This may result in 1-2 more phoenix than per usual generally. People tend to forget that even if units were instabuilt there is still a cap to how many of them you can produce (your resources) so it is not like the toss players are going to necessarily get that much more (perhaps a little faster and with less stargates). Seriously 1-2 more phoenix per ball is a non-issue, can only harrass and require a tech switch to win the game anyway. Plenty of counters to phoenix.

PVP- good to see an anti-collosus unit that isn't a collosus- very happy

PVT- cheaper obs and quicker hallucinate may allow non-robo openings vs terran (quick hallucinate to scout for banshees) although not convinced it will really fix the main issues which is that blizzard nerfed the hell out of battlecruisers/repears and now most terran go bio so then most toss go collosus. I am very glad the repair issue has been patched although I can't help but feel like they should have restored battlecruisers and nerfed the MMM ball. Time will tell

PVZ- not sure what to make of this match-up. Currently I think it is fairly balanced as is which is why I am confused to why they are tinkering with it. I'm sure a lot of protoss players have been in the situation where they have 10 mutas fly into their base and they haven't got a stargate up and from that point on it is incredibly hard to keep up with production. Mutas are so powerful vs toss and very diverse in their usefulness and currently the muta-ling strategy does seem a little hard to stop. The issue is that phoenix are supposed to be the (sorry Day 9) hard counters to mutas. That is their main purpose in the game, and as it is you almost have to have your first few phoenix out before the mutas pop to really keep up with production. As for FG I saw gunea pig lose his whole phoenix army to 1 FG and have also seen vikings also similarly sniped. I think blizzard want to encourage corrupter (as anti air)/broodlord tech. Also when compared to EMP and Storm seems a lot more powerful, can't be dodged and you can't retreat.

You mean those ladder stats that said PvZ was either balanced (within 5%) in the case of NA/Europe or heavily zerg favoured in the case of korea? Those ladder stats?

Or the GSL3 stats that show 11 games to 11 games in favor of neither?

I completely agree. The best part of the PTR is the fact that blizzard did a PTR. We won't end up with silly bugs like the Ultralisk taking out entire mineral lines by hitting one SCV.
I don't agree with a few changes, but let's all remember that these are theorycrafted by Blizz. They're not just putting the PTR up for no reason. If these changes are truly game breaking or too big, they will certainly pay attention. The best we can do is to play the PTR as much as we can, get as much data out there as we can, and hope Blizz notices. To those so adverse to the disgusting changes, they can just keep laddering on the Live version. No harm done, for now.

I think the best thing to do would be to either change fungal to a slowing effect for air, or buff corruptor speed so that they can catch phoenix. As it stands, I don't know how you would kill phoenix controlled by a good P, but if you could catch them with corruptor, it would be ok.

Totally agree with this. Zerg needs to consider that protoss might go other than ground now. Ovies with spores and queens for protection has to be considered now too.

Its a TEST PATCH. Calm down people, and play with it, instead of complaining again and again -__-

Plunder Isle has like 3 ways of attacking with 2 rocks blocking the way. 1 Rock in Blistering sands was hard enough. And theres only a nat and a third. No 4th base. Wacraft map imo.

I've already played a few ZvP test games with some protoss practice partners.

1 base phoenix is extremely good.

If you don't scout it, or don't suspect it, you're dead.

I had to rush hydras + make 3-4 queens just to hold them off. This certainly gives protoss another 1 base option (at least against Z).

I like it because it should hopefully allow for a little more flexibility with Protoss so they can get the robo PvP/PvT and transition to the tech they want a little sooner, which will hopefully be more than just colossi all the time.

The phoenix was already a very strong unit PvZ. There are/were some slight issues with transitioning in and our of phoenixes, but it's always been a strong unit in the match up. With the training time reduced it's easier to transition out of it or cause more damage with them. Recently new BOs have also brought phoenix play back into the mix complete with good transitions. So a unit that was already really strong and an important part of a match up that seems to be balanced just got buffed significantly. People are going to outcry.

Imagine if zerg got a muta buff, also protoss got a storm nerf, would you mind?

some of the 'fixes' are great for me, e.g. removing vr speed and fungal no longer affects air >=], but the highly anticipated chat channels were kind of a flop imo... i thought they were gonna take up the main screen area, instead of being small windows (which are exactly the same as the old chat windows, cept now people can join public chats).
