The Tasteless Podcast is a biweekly talk show hosted by Nick “Tasteless” Plott and produced by yours truly. Each episode is recorded face-to-face, whether it be at the Core-A Studio in Seoul or elsewhere around the world. Our guests range from community figures past and present—such as Kaelaris, PiG and NoRegret—to professional players like SpeCial. We also host esports personalities from other games as well.
In this episode with SpeCial, we discuss his beginnings in StarCraft, his approach to the game, and more. If you enjoy the show, you can support our team and gain access to exclusive content such as the AFTERSHOW by joining us on Patreon.
I'm only 20 minutes in, but I really love it. Learned more about Special in that time than I knew about him from the last 10 years. I used to think he was a big selfish jerk when he was known as Major in the WoL days but now with this interview and watching his streams more frequently he's really grown on me. His mom sounds awesome too lol. Thanks so much for this!
Glad you guys liked it! I'll continue to post any new StarCraft-related episodes (like this one) here on TL. If you want to listen to our eps with other esports personalities, follow our YouTube, Spotify or Patreon!
Just wanted to say, this is amazing. I'm from Mexico but this gives so much insight into Special that I didn't have, while also giving glimses of Tasteless. He's actually a great Host, I'm surprised he didnd't have a podcast before (and dissapointed in myself for not watching the previous episodes, which I surely will now).
Great job State, Tasteless and everyone involved.
I really like Special's comment about the ability to have all your units in one hotkey not mattering. BW elitist always use that as something good for BW, but I've always thought that being able to do that really helps lower-level players and reduces a lot the barrier of entry for Starcraft, and yet as Special points out, as you become better and better, it doesn't matter that you can put all your army in one hotkey, because you will not want to do that. You'll want to have different hotkeys to maximize effectiveness.

I thought that was really insightful too, made me dead stop in the middle of the podcast. The idea that it doesn't change much at a high level makes so much sense, but legitimately felt like a massive shift in 2010 and was the big thing everyone talked about.
I am loving Tasteless getting out of the world of streaming, although it did shatter my illusion that he lived some bohemian hippy lifestyle and occasionally showed up at the GSL studio!
Were you responsible for the podcast/showmatch hype videos State? Those were fantastic!

I made the Power Rangers one, but that's about it. We're going to start making a bunch more these next few weeks though. Glad you like 'em!

It still matters a lot. Production is way easier. I don't want to imagine the nightmare that sc2 would be with very limited control group for armies...

I think you miss the point about the post you replied to - for low level players, being able to control the entire army in a single hotkey greatly helps reduce the skill required to enjoyably play the game. The main point is that this "easy" feature doesn't affect the highest levels of play (as much) because the best pros will be using multiple hotkeys anyways. The implicit point is that it allows the very best pros to differentiate themselves from another "standard" pro.

I did not miss the point, I disagreed with it because it compares it to BW.

This was great, thank you so much for posting it here. I'd heard a few years ago that Tasteless was starting a podcast but didn't know how to access it due to being so busy. Will be sure to check out more and I hope you guys are staying safe over there.
I have major Starcraft bias (haha who here doesn't) but Special has been my favorite guest so far. Jokes and memes aside it was a really great watch.
I do think maybe an informal HCS-esque "on the couch" style might be better suited for these interviews though--cutting to the speaker abruptly is a bit awkward. That's the tamest possible criticism though, I really do love the show haha.
