It almost seems to me that jp/arotosis/incontrol/wheat/day9 etc are doing this in an attempt to steer away some spotlight at what IGN is doing for the sc2 scene.
How much cooler would this have been if SOTG was done at IPL4 in vegas? But obviously it wont since Jp works for mlg and ign is a direct competitor.
Anyway, i said my small rant. In my view its a stupid move. It would have been alot funner to see incontrol interview these guys at ipl4, especially considering that it will be the greatest sc2 tournament to date, it has what over 1/2 of code S, entire gstl teams, something along the line of 40+ koreans. And these guys go PAX, which just so happens they are the big MLG representive guys ( outside of incontrol) . I can smell this rotten fish from miles away.
Are you paranoid much?
Incontrol isn't going to IPL, his going to PAX as per requested from EG. Removing Incontrol from SOTG is like removing TL from the SC2 Scene. Guess where Artosis is going to be? Not at IPL either! I don't know about the other members of the cast, but I can only presume Day9 won't be there unless his spectating. You gotta' realize sponsor requests come first rather then doing an 'off-side' production like SOTG.
Even if it were JP saying no, I can fully understand. I'd rather him have a job at MLG then lose his job because he hosted a SOTG at IPL.
dude as you can see, i already know all the guys that are going to pax instead , you dont have to tell me. As i said, its a dick move and i got a few reasons why.
Incontrol canceled his open bracket spot at ipl 4 to do this show at PAX. A starcraft 2 progamer canceling tournaments to do non-essential tasks. Imagin if Idra canceled Ipl to do inside the game at PAx, there would be community outrage.. We might as well stop calling Incontrol a sc2 pro-gamer. He is no longer that, Hes a PR representive for EG, Nothing more.Nothing less.
Now lets go onto Artosis and his reasoning for going to pax I've watched almost every gsl game, and anytime artosis talkes about other games, he discredits them and says Starcraft 2 and starcraft 1 are the greatest games in the world. Yet hes going a multigame convension , inwhich he does not give 2 shits about the other games because Starcraft is his love( i know he also likes Street Fighter, thats about it) . Its clear to me that sundance is flying him out to PAX to do a SOTG at pax. As i know sundance is going as well. So here you have the greatest sc2 commentator, not commentating on the biggest event sc2 will ever see. Im sure ign approached tastetosis to commentate their event, and he refused because he has sided with MLG.
day9- can be summed up with artosis, same shit.
Wheat - hes not on sotg , so its no bigge, he was always a "multi-game" guy so this is to be expected.
JP -works for mlg , would never in a million years do a SOTG at ipl4 and expect to keep his job.
Shit like this pisses me off
SOTG was much better when it was not affiliated to anything. Now its just a bunch of crap with biased opinions.
So much wrong in this post I don't even know where to start. I guess I'll lead off with this since it should correct the majority of your post.
SotG is independent from MLG and has been for months.
That was probably the worst argument ever, so I hope you can keep on with pointing out where he is wrong.
Maybe if someone can first point out to me why it does even matter where it's held? It's the same freaking show.
edit -- the things with a "-" in front of them are things i quoted from someone else ( http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=145494¤tpage=2136#42703 )... not my opinion. I'm defending sotg and the lings without an "-" are my opinion. Now you guys have made me look like a dick by not reading the previous page and just quoting my post --

- Incontrol is sponsored by kingston, and at every pax event at least one eg player, often incontrol, has been at the kingston booth. It's obviously part of their contract. Now which is the better decision, get to play in an open bracket full of code s koreans and most likely lose quite early, with maby 2-3 games streamed if you lucky, or go to pax and work with fans and sponsors, + host a talk show. Which one gives incontrol the best pr/money...
Players are in no way obligated to play in every tournament if they have some other thing they could do where they make more money/get more pr, especially for a community figure like incontrol, so going to pax is not only best for him, as he gets more attention, btu best for eg, as they keep sponsorship with kingston + get more "eg" air time from incontrol.
(also artosis is being sponsored by kingston in the conteset which was advertised on tl so its not like he flew all the way to america just to do a state of the game, he's also doing fan related things)
day9- can be summed up with artosis, same shit.
Why should he be obligated to fly out to a tournament just to do a 1-2 hour show for a company he has nothing to do with? Whats in it for him?
JP -works for mlg , would never in a million years do a SOTG at ipl4 and expect to keep his job.
same as day9, Why should he be obligated to fly out to an event which he has no realtion to, carry out a 1-2 our long show for their benefit, which they will probably gain money from, just because if he does it at pax instead, mlg looks like an evil mastermind?
At the end of the day, would you rather there wasn't a state of the game at all then at pax? surely the community is best when there are events all over the place competing, they did a sotg at pax last time, so why not again?
SOTG at PAX helps the scene more than if it was at IPL4. It introduces new people to esports. Gaming conventions should have some esports parts to bring in more people. SOTG at PAX is a step in the right direction.

Actually they asked for a bigger space and were denied at PAX. So even fans of the show won't even get to see them at the event unless you are waiting in the line weeeeelll in advance. Unless things have changed of course but, I haven't seen anything saying that. Correct me if I'm wrong of course.

That's actually a really good analogy, never considered that before but yeah it does make it better.
What do you like more though, finding $20 buck in a pocket, or getting that big monthly paycheck :p.
i once found an old paycheck in my jean pocket. but it had gone through the wash. =(

All this to argue the semantics of whether Incontrol is a "pro gamer". Well, technically he is a contracted player on the team evil genius' and is paid a salary to play a game called starcraft 2. Part of that contract probably involves helping to promote the team and sponsors by doing live events. If the team feels it is better to send him to PAX than to an open bracket at IPL that is their parogative, but that doesn't change what he is, which is, by definition a professional gamer.

You realize these events are planned months in advance. Every minute detail of the event needs to be planned out, especially floor space. You can't just expect that because they asked for more space they would get it. It sucks but its not the end of the world. The show will still be cool and having live fans there to interact with will only improve it.

wehehehell okay then! *rolls up sleeves*
You guys are doing a fucking tremendously fabulous job. Keep it up. WE all love you for it, the community loves you for it, SotG is a barrel of laughs and knowledge bombs and a nexus of the community and the work you all put in is incredibly appreciated. It's a gift to us all. Do it when you can and put in what you want. Seriously, you deserve 100x more than what you get out of it, because I can guarantee, the goodwill and utility you bring to everyone who watches this, times the number of people watching it, times the overall benefit you all bring to the community itself is way way more than 100x what you personally get out of it.
and seriously to hell with the whining babies in the thread. Fucking hell.
JP -works for mlg , would never in a million years do a SOTG at ipl4 and expect to keep his job.
I'm pretty sure this is not true. Sundance seems pretty lax about this kind of thing.
Why in the world would JP do his show for a league that wants to compete with the current league he works for?
Let me answer your question with a question:
Would Tastosis cast for a tournament that competes with the league they work for? What about djWHEAT? Painuser? iNcontroL? Khaldor? Wolf? Apollo? TotalBiscuit?

I could keep going
Tastosis worked for multiple leagues, JP only works for MLG, and his more then just a caster for them.

Saying iNcontroL is not a pro gamer is a slap in the face. If you want me to elaborate I will, but I doubt you will read it.
Day[9] is not being sponsored by Kingston, how can you compare him to Artosis in that fashion?
I don't think MLG is stopping JP from casting at IPl, if I had to guess, it would be that they have a LOT of casters already that they are investing in. Not to mention that JP is not a full time caster, he has other job responsibilities, so while I really like his casting, it makes sense that he does not cast all that often (similar to DJwheat.)
Your last part is really poorly worded, you start by assuming you have convinced us that is would be better if SoTG wasn't at pax, then the next sentence says that they did one at the last pax, so why not again, as if there is no reason not to. Do you want them to do it or not?

I have to say though, it makes for an amusing read lol. On behalf of those that post on this thread, I sincerely apologize to the SoTG cast. I'm sorry you have to wade through countless pages of nonsense to actually catch the few posts that bring up something worth mentioning.
Jesus guys I cant find ANYTHING informative in this thread, everybody should stop whining about I dont even know what. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I love this show and I really hope it goes back to being a weekly thing, also cant wait to see what new thing JP has in store
