I really just think Facebook is stupid and a waste of time and it would annoy me if I had to get an account to fully "enjoy" SC2.
Nah you just won't be able to link up with people on your facebook who you don't really chat with on a day to day basis. You won't even notice anything different if you don't already take advantage of facebook linkage in Xbox live and other services.

What gets me though is that this somehow makes the launch but chat rooms aren’t slatted until AFTER release? I just don’t understand where Blizzard is getting their info on what the community really wants.
There is the TL community (which granted does have a lot of weight) and then the community at large that generally won't care about no chat rooms. TL does not represent the larger gaming mass audience.

i don't like how you are forced nowadays to create a facebook account even our newspaper has an article about facebook like every week

I'm pretty sure we won't HAVE to link up and won't HAVE to consatntly post crap about how nerdy people are. But yeah I'd prefer Battlenet to maybe be a bit more like facebook, chat etc, than link it directly.

I sort of agree. The average gamer will find it annoying that they don't have easy to use chat channels. Lets be honest, we are going to get alot of people who's fist online game was WoW. What are they going to do without general chat channels? I don't think they will make a big enough fuss about it though to make a difference.
This entire thing with Facebook is more about viral advertising than a useful tool I think.

How about they build in something useful, like TL integration.
|
yeah, pretty useless. kind of neat, maybe the best tactic to "spread the word" about the game...
still, chat channels and shared replays >> this
|
And this company wants to run esports? Blizzard's idea of E-sports is probably a few newbs playing a semi-pro on bnet like that show in Korea.

Anyone who expected BNet not to link up with Facebook is just amish. There will be Twitter and Buzz integration too. If you look at it from the bright side a linked streaming service might not be too far away if they manage to popularize it enough.

I'm personally looking forward to it... it would make it easier to add people I know to my friends list

Yeah, we want it to be all around-linked because?...
Oh Yes!, so we can play with the same people in the same server, thanks to some weirdly thought server restrictions they decided to come up at the last minute. Are you fucking seriously kidding me?.
It's not the fact that they are integrating the game, because it's good, it will make more people be aware of it, and well a whole lot more social integration, but I think, there are bigger problems, and solutions that need to be thought out well, instead of "having servers for each region of the fucking world".
|
If people seriously think the time taken to integrate facebook is anything like the time to sort out some of the larger issues like x-region matches, chat channels etc then they are hugely mistaken.
Without splitting the community it is likely that it would be impossible to provide the required back end infrastructure to allow the game to exist. There is a reason WoW is split up into regions and then realms you know and why over time x-realm features appeared (as the servers became more powerful over the 5 years since launch).
A worldwide B.net 2 is not a simple thing to engineer for a company with little experience in mega-scale online projects (like google, facebook, etc).
|
Yeah, this is something that a couple interns could have taken care of in a week . . . don't confuse work toward Facebook integration with work toward chat or LAN. The skills needed are simply not the same.
The thing that should be protested here is that you can have Facebook friends from all over the world, but you can't play SC2 with the ones outside your region. That part is definitely silly.
|
Follow the money guys; there is more than likely a financial deal between Blizzard/Facebook, or Blizzard is going to see some amount of ad revenue for this move.
Chat channels don't make any money; everyone will buy the game regardless of chat channels. This will make them money.
Business sucks for the consumer =\
