The main thing I like about these textures are that it creates more contrast between the player color and the rest of the unit/building's skin and between the unit/building skins and the terrain.

I would rather have all this texture thing as a option in graphics. And I do mean a option just for the unit/building textures. Everything regarding textures is based on how they look on your monitor and I really think everyone is assuming everything looks the same everywhere. Even with the exact monitor you can have lighting differences based on other things such as where the computer is in the room relative to some window.

Incidentally this exact discussion with this exact contrast difference debate happened for diablo3 along with "wtf rainbows?!" QQ. The developers shot it down pretty easily...

I think the zerg textures are a little too dark. If you're playing as blue, it makes it look almost black.

I can't use the beta and I really want to see these settings in motion. Based on the stills:

Protoss look better than before but you left out purple and pink which I've had a very difficult time telling apart in 2v2s with the standard colors and thus would like to see if your mod makes an improvement.

Zerg looks worse. The darkness gets annoying quick with zerg on creep. I strongly doubt this opinion will change when viewed in motion.

Terran I don't care either way. Both color systems work out ok. I guess I'm just not impressed with Terran artwork in general.

I guess I need to brighten and saturate them up again. Although idk why they would look darker depending on team color since I haven't touched team colors.

I think they are awesome, especially for protoss! But I think zerg is is a bit too darkm makes em difficult to see on the creep.

I went through all the zerg textures and lightened them up and added some color back again. And after a long time in photoshop i think i got a good balance. However now I'm working on enhancing the creep and would like a few opinions.

This is the default texture for creep:

the modified one seems more goo looking due to it looking like its reflecting more light. This also makes the creep seem brighter which might help with telling apart units on creep.

I think that the lighter (after) creep definitely is easier on the eyes. Can you include a photo of a clump of zerg units on both so we can tell for sure though?

well after some testing i found out that the change in creep makes creep appear brighter on some maps, but darker in others. In Metatopolis for example, my creep appears darker. However this is not a problem as i plan to brighten up the creep afterwards. What i really want from you guys is to tell me whether you think my creep looks cooler or the original. Both can be brightened to be easier on the eyes so clarity shouldn't be an issue in this choice

Its a little hard to tell them apart, but the modified creep does seem to have a hair more detail, which is pretty cool. Not sure which I like better though, they just seem pretty similar unless you look for differences.

I agree. Remember the earliest version of SC2 which people said looked too bright and plastic? I actually think Blizzard shot themselves in the foot by listening to players complain about the style, because nowadays it's complaints about visibility.

I have to echo a lot of the prior sentiments; Your protoss textures are absolutely phenomenal. The other two races, however, are too dark. Terran just a touch (I'd love to see more metallic highlights if that's possible) and Zerg by quite a bit.

The new creep seems pretty nice, though!

You butchered all of the defining features of the zerg units. I can barely see anything now, it's just a blob of shadows.

I don't think Terran needs that much of a reworking, but the Protoss look much more badass, without losing definition.

I think the best approach for zerg is to look for ways to contrast the little details more. A black zergling body with colored wings looks like a concept car, not an organism. Try to distinguish claws, eyes, mouth features, and the shape of the body. Darkening large regions only hides these features

They say people look more attractive in dim lighting, but truly attractive people also look good under bright lights. Just sayin', you may be working in the wrong direction for some of the units.

thanks for the criticism, i will get to work on trying to fix this. I believe the reason why toss worked out best is because i'm a toss user so i know what i wanted. But will keep trying.

check out this overlord, i came through this while experimenting. It does seem to possess something that says its organic and not a machine don't you think? a step in the right direction maybe? of course im still working on it.

Really good work. However, darkening the zerg kinda is counter-intuitive to the whole "visibility improvement on creep" patch.

I really like the terran, though. They look much less plasticy than blizz.

Is there any way to focus on accenting the unit team colors?
Bronze skipping straight to Diamond in 40 games retail release. Bnet 2.0 ladder really takes it's sweet time to think about that league placement.
