Very nice. Thanks for the work on Terra! With what kind of programms did you change the textures? A little beginners guide would be great.
Maybe ill put that up sometime. I used Photoshop to edit the textures which are dds files. In order to be able to open those files you need a dds plugin. The only one i know of is the nvidia one. However you must be running the 32 bit version of photoshop as currently the dds plugin from nvidia doesn't support 64 bit photoshop(just letting you know that because it had me stuck for a long time before i figured it out.)

Nice work. However it would be nice if there would be a merged version as well of all races ^^

Zerg is too dark, protoss is awesome

Brood War really wasn't that dark. It can be very vivid and bright. I don't understand where this insatiable craving for gritty darkness is coming from. Isn't it basically just high contrast that you want?

The explosions in the first image may make the image look bright but if you actually look at those units you're proving yourself wrong because they are all dark and gritty
only commenting on the first picture because the second one doesn't show up

I agree with Wolfpox, since when was Broodwar dark? The thing that comes to mind was the lava tileset which was never used (guess why lol)

The Mutalisks are bright orange with bright blue wings. The Terran units are shiny metal + bright yellow. I'm not seeing you...

Your before / after pictures are kinda bad, at least have them on the same map I mean the lighting is totally different and I have no idea how different they are in actuality.

the bright yellow and blue are team colors. Just so we're clear, these have not been touched. This works because team colors now contrast better as some have stated

Broodwar has never been "dark" in that sense like people assume, what it had was strong contrasts.
SC2 needs stronger contrasts, IE building/unit colors being stronger and more distinct in relation to each other and the terrain.
This applies especially for units beacuse they clump up and have similiar variations of a color that makes them hard to distinguish from one another.

Is this playable online? or can we only play this offline against AI's?

that might be true but I couldn't do just contrast for sc2. Protoss v1 was almost entirely contrast boost but it turned out looking red/bronze instead of yellow.
I really urge u guys to try these out, don't rely on those pics completely.
I'm going to bed now....

It's much easier to distinguish the colors in mirror matchups with your textures! This is breathtaking! Awesome work!

the zerg creep looks a lot better, and i like the look of the protoss now, reminds me of the sc1 cinematics

Hey,
I tried to install the Protoss texture pack but since I'm computer-illiterate, I'm having some issues.
I went to the SC2Beta folder (c:/Program Files/Starcraft II Beta) and I don't appear to have an 'Assets' folder. I tried checking my other SC2B folder (c:/My Documents/Starcraft II Beta), but nothing there either.
Should I create a /Assests, and if so, in which folder? Or am I missing something else completely?
|
The new version of the Protoss is better than the first, but as for Terran and Zerg... I have no idea why someone would want a game where every unit of every faction is essentially black. In the original Brood War, Protoss were gold, Zerg were orange, and Terran were metallic. I don't believe there is a reason for turning them all black. Especially in the case of the Terrans, which in this modification seems to really emphasise black plastic.
|
As someone who doesn't get a few graph changes people have been doing I'm loving the look of this. Protoss looks a bit dingy though.

if inside ur program files/Starcraft ii beta folder there is no assets folder then create one. And then inside of that create a textures folder. And that's where u drag all the textures to.
Hope that helps
