mass carriers. make cannons.

What i did was to mass colossuses and wall of the bridges with cybernetic cores. And when you max on colossuses start making cannons in an arc behind the cores. Maybe you can make some phoenixes to but thats optional.

Ouch. I understand why you would use Latin plurals in English.

I just finished doing this campaign Mission and was able to get to 3425 that was going colossus + pheonix and I took the gold base i take the gold after around the 3rd swarm hit and than leave it mining as much as it can till it finally gets over run but by than i usually get a ton of minerals and put canons all around the research facility to help protect it and once I have secured that location and got the achievement I move up to the main base and put as many canons as possible from the 2 entrances to hold off enemy units as long as possible by than I had a 200 max our army with full upgrades (maybe missing 1 or 2) and was just easy killing from there and eventually theres just to much but that was after while like I said I got to 3425 kills.
It is a hard mission but Colossus and Pheonix with upgrades seems to be the way to go for sure and canons never stop rebuilding canons!
edit: well I apologize for this post, I was replying to a campaign post for WOL for the In Utter Darkness mission and ended up in HOTS section somehow? I would delete this but I dont see a delete option.

It's alright iCpryde, the HOTS forum was the single player campaign forum until shortly after HOTS went into beta. I imagine they're going to revert it back soon.

i did it in a sligthly exploit way, but not realy. using dark templars in a line (hold position) in every opening. Done right they take care of everything on the ground, until overseers arrive. if fast enough you take out the overseers and sacc a few phoenixes on it. then ofc cannons everywhere and so on.
|
I just massed up only collosi and used all the air forces you get to lift the hybrids and focus down brood lords and other air. Then use all your excess minerals to cannon up the three platforms. After that just cannons on the low ground. I got through it with 3100ish kills I believe.

Confused why this is in the HotS section O_O
EDIT: Nevermind. Answered above.

What is this gold base everyone keeps talking about? Is it in the protoss base?

Dark Templar + Phoenix.
No shit, you can hold position the dark templars at each entrance and use the phoenixes to kill the overseers, it is literally impossible for any zerg unit to enter.
And use lots of cannons to shut down the nydus worms immediately.

Thanks! I beat this on brutal with all the achievements, but I probably should try the gold mine again
|
I've used the build only colossi and stick to original base way to beat it on Brutal and get all achievements.

DT walls. And transition to air army and float yourself above dead space.

When I was watching Artosis' campaign walkthrough I realized I've somehow managed to never see that gold base for some weird reason, despite playing the mission often, even flying around everywhere I think.
Either way, started to do another quick campaign brutal run and just managed to get 3591 kills, though I think I've gotten 260x before at some point.

My strategy is to be (obviously) as effective as possible. Which means early upgrades, always build lots and lots of cannons if you got the money and as far as units go: 8-10 Collossi (get those first) then get roughly up to 20 Phoenixes, 1-2 Immortals that should be positioned to take hits instead of Collossi, the couple Carriers you get (patrol them in the archive area, same for Mothership) and then fill up supply with Voidrays. Over the course of the run I only really need to refill Phoenixes and Voids at times.
Make extremely heavy usage of Graviton Beam! Constantly hold all the Hybrids up in the air, especially the melee ones which destroy everything ridiculously quickly with their damage. I suggest putting Phoenixes and Voidrays in one control group and use that one mostly while Collossi etc. are either on hold position or Patrol. Unfortunately Phoenixes in the campaign do not have the "shoot while moving" update, so keep that in mind. Don't use Graviton Beam with shift, just hold down the hotkey you use for it, makes controlling it that much more easy.
As you can see in the screenshot I have a lot of resources left and if I just build much more canons I'd go over 3.6k easily. That said, except for maybe mass warpgates you won't get much out of your money wants the ridiculously huge wave hits. It will completely annihilate you no matter what and producing no units takes too long.
It may be possible however with nice Vortex and Storm usage (perhaps even Archon-Toilette?!? (are they actually available?) to get quite a few more kills. May have to try that out. But it's already really micro intensive and even 10 Vortexes can't hold back that shit later on.
Really great mission though, I love that one and All-in (with no artifact usage). Hope there'll be similar ones in HotS.
