imo i think the lean ripped look ("starving african child") is more impressive and nicer aesthetically than the bulging muscles bodybuilder look
just my opinion of course

I also think a lean ripped look is impressive (like brad pitt in fight club, though that's on the skinnier side for me), but "starving african child" definitely isn't.

If you're a teen, severely underweight, and weak (getting linear gains from novice progression). Well, at least 2 of the 3 you may have nearly .9-.99 of that 1 lbs be lean mass gains.

hm... im not sure of my weight (probably around 160 pounds) but I know im about 22% body fat. i stopped working out after school ended for the summer so i'm going to start running and hitting the gym more often again. my goal is to get back my six pack and get my body fat under 10% again. i'll also be joining in the army in about a year so i really need to get my physical fitness up. i don't really care about weight since i hope to be losing fat but gaining muscle.

Or you could just drop a dumbbell on your big toe and break it and downgrade to PES C.

Hey how tall are you. Height makes a huge different. Then after that all that matters is how thick you want to be with muscle and how hard you are willing to work for that.

how much is a reasonable amount of weight to lose cleanly and how long should it take? I'm getting close to reaching my strength goals and I would like to cut down, but I'm not sure long I'm supposed to do it or how intensely. I don't want to starve myself just to reach some arbitrary weight quickly and lose too much good weight along with the bad
edit: 5'11" 180 lbs, ~18% bf after months of on and off regular exercise (injury and illness and business travel being the limiting factors) and extremely dirty bulking i.e. I've eaten like complete garbage just to gain weight with the expectation I could work off the fat once I hit my goals

1 lbs or ~500 calories per day deficit
Clean eating + heavy lifting + metabolic/interval work tends to work the best to change body composition.

Having some body fat is usually healthier unless you are very regular with your diet and get a ridiculous amount of exercise. 10% is on the really low end. Haha no, 10% is not low and you don't even need special diet or exercise. Just being generally active and smart about what you eat is enough to maintain it. Of course if you're a fatass, getting down there requires some work but that's just how it is. I'm hanging around the 10% range because I'm not a bodybuilder or anything, I lift for fun and enjoy being able to eat pizza, fast food, etc if I want to. To rock a 6-pack or something (about 8-9%) would take me a LOT of work. Always remember genes play a big part.

I took 100kilos in benchpress about 3 years ago, and after I was done in the military I just quit the whole thing..but at work theres this gym you can use for free, so I bought creatine, protein powder and a lot of chicken and started working out hardcore on thursday.
Took 4-8 reps on 60 kilos like 5 times, then some other chest exercises like peck deck or wtf its called, and today, 2 days later im completely destroyed, my chest mucsles are so fucked up I cant do shit..cant even shower couse everything I do hurts like hell.
And it feels good :D
