Also, only two more years with Pep at ManCity. Will be very interesting to see how they manage the transition to a new coach. Pep Guardiola plans to end Manchester City stay in two years when deal expires. Manager will have spent nine years at City when deal finishes. Pep Guardiola is firmly minded to leave Manchester City in two years when his contract expires. The manager, fresh from leading City to the treble, has all but decided that he will depart in summer 2025 and end his tenure after nine years. Source

Sure, he was supported by team mates who seemed to want to win the cup as much as he did, while Mbappe was left to do it basically all alone, but still... one of them WON the world cup for their team. Funnily enough, the key players in club football were all irrelevant at the world cup. KDB was unable to rise above the pathetic level of the Belgian team. Gundogan was below average for a rather average Germany. Norway didn't qualify. Julian Alvarez was a good player for City AND for Argentina, but not the best and not the decider for either team. That said, I'd rank Man City's treble above anything that happened at the world cup this season. Carrying a team to the world cup requires you to be brilliant for a few weeks. Winning the treble requires that level of play for months. Haaland or KDB deserve that recognition imho.

Hansi Flick just subbed him out early all the time. Hansi Flick decided to go for his treble winning Bayern side and they disappointed him. That is not Gundogan's fault he was subbed

Maybe not subbing Klose who was constantly getting on the wrong side of a card-happy ref in the game against serbia in 2010 is comparable. The difference of course being that subbing Gündogan doomed the entire world cup campaign, while not subbing Klose in the end only lost that partiular game, but didnt eliminate us. Though that was far from clear in that moment,

That said I agree Ajax should've been a perfect fit, he is highly influenced by Rinus Michels and likes the total football approach, and developing youngsters is perhaps his most prominent ability.

Timing can be everything with some of these moves though, coming from a smaller league an initial failure can have you anointed as someone who can’t make the step up, so maybe something about Ajax put him off? Wasn’t there quite a lot of politics and upheaval at board level the last few years?

From what I've heard he has said something really extreme has to be on the table for him to consider leaving them mid-season, and with the Norwegian season being out of sync from most of Europe (we have a winter break instead of summer break), it seems hard to avoid. More than anything I think he feels there's still more left for him to achieve in bodø, and that he is both extremely pleased with the team he has (player for player it is the best they've had) and that he basically has complete autonomy, something he most likely won't have in a big European club. I don't think money is his primary motivation, he has already turned down higher paying jobs. Thanks. I don't believe that he doesn't want to leave in the middle of the season but maybe I'm too cynical about the football world. The autonomy I can understand. Ajax would not give him control over transfer policy. Some influence but that's it. Wasn’t there quite a lot of politics and upheaval at board level the last few years? Last one and a half year yes. Marc Overmars was our sporting director and Van Der Sar our CEO. They made a very good couple and Ten Hag was a very good addition as coach. Ajax was really not good for more than a decade and they turned it around from the latter half of the 2010s. Around 18 months ago Overmars got fired because he sent dick picks to female colleagues at Ajax. We didn't get a proper replacement and the last transfer summer was a disaster including the new coach to replace Ten Hag. So this season was a mess where we ended third and got knocked in Europe very fast (which is a disaster season for Ajax). Van der Sar also got a lot of criticism and it's one of the reason he'll quit soon. Having said that I think it's pretty much the best moment to step into Ajax. We're at a low point but Ajax has by far the biggest budget, expectations are relatively low, and the squad is still good enough to win the league with a good coach. Seeing what he did at Bodø Glimt I'm pretty sure he'd do very well at Ajax with this squad plus some extra reinforcements.

For all the talk about Messi “and friends,” coming to Miami, at this point only one player can be considered likely to follow Messi to South Flordia: His longtime Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets. Sources involved in discussions say a deal for the midfielder is not yet done, however. Miami has been working on a potential Busquets deal for months as they hoped Messi would choose to sign with the club. Notably, the club left the No. 10 and No. 5 jerseys open this winter; Messi prefers the No. 10 shirt, Busquets the No. 5. The initial hope was that Busquets joining Inter might actually be an incentive for Messi to come to MLS. Now, Messi has committed before any deal is done with Busquets, and the midfielder has a number of big-money offers on the table that are impacting negotiations. Sources briefed on talks said they believe Miami hopes to sign Busquets to a contract of $1.65 million or less and thus won’t require using one of the club’s three designated player (DP) slots. But Miami has multiple avenues to open up DP slots if they need to use one on Busquets. The club has its one-time contract buyout, can transfer or trade another player out, or use salary cap mechanisms to move one DP off the designation. Source
