if dave isn't made captain next season, i don't know what the fuck is wrong with the club. he's literally the only player with the balls to face the media after every humiliating loss this season and has done everything that was supposed to be done of the captain and then some more.

rafael leao had a monster of a season, so he deserves a big shout out as well. Hell, just by looking at last fixture's goals and he was in every one of them.

Either that or you give it Ronaldo right with maybe De Gea vice captain to take over when he leaves?
We should've had CL football, but our losses were completely our fault. Stupid choices, poor performances, wasted signings, the whole nine yards. I hate that I have to say this every year, but this comes down to our summer signings. I remember how bad it was last year, but maybe, just maybe we can finally have a good window

Ronaldo would be a shocking choice for captain, too petulant.
De Gea has held himself well for years, performed excellently, seems a sensible choice.
At a club already operating at the absolute elite standard Ronaldo’s high standards and moaning might work, United aren’t at that standard.
United aren’t there yet, and I mean transplant it to any normal workplace. Do you want a coworker who throws up his hands in frustration if you don’t do exactly what they want, to the standard they want?
I’d say absolutely not, great player, indisputable. The one you want to be the leader of your team? I don’t think so, not with this United anyway.
should have been de gea since ages ago. i love ole and i think he did a great job overall but he definitely fucked up hard with the maguire captaincy. how does some random cb from leicester walk into the united dressing room and immediately become captain? i cant think of a single way to defend this decision no matter how long i think about it
I don’t think it ultimately matters much as long as they don’t give it to Ronaldo :p
The English game seems to be the only one where it’s viewed as a big deal at all. Elsewhere it can go to the most senior player by default, or Bielsa has the players elect his captains as he sees the role as being the intermediary between him and the squad.
The English conception of the captain, be it your John Terry/Roy Keane vocalists, or the inspirational ‘Roy of the Rovers’ captain Marvel like a Steven Gerrard or Bryan Robson seems a bit out of step with the modern game.
You need leaders all over the pitch, but more importantly you need a plan, and you need players to collectively know how to execute that plan, and to coordinate properly on the pitch.
United are so lacking in those areas that no amount of inspirational captaincy is going to make a huge difference.

Not that I have any better suggestions though, United just doesn't feel like they have an obvious pick in their roster.
i think that has been his criticisms in the past, but like wombat just said, the roy keane kind of captain that screams at his teammates seems to be a thing of the past now. besides, whilst de gea may have been quiet throughout the majority of his united career, he definitely didnt seem to have problems screaming at maguire this season. maybe hes gotten more vocal with age?

ManUtd's problem doesnt lie just with captaincy but with having no personalities apart from Ronaldo who would be willing to man up
Pogba and Varane were the dressing room leaders in the 2018 world cup winning squad but I can see why they keep quiet given their performance with united.
The Premier League board has approved the proposed takeover of Chelsea by the Todd Boehly/Clearlake Consortium.
A statement from the Premier League on Tuesday confirmed their approval of the takeover with the consortium passing its Owners’ and Directors’ Test.
The takeover has not been completed, however, as the purchase remains subject to the Government issuing the required sale licence.
The statement from the Premier League on Tuesday evening read: “The Premier League Board has today approved the proposed takeover of Chelsea Football Club by the Todd Boehly/Clearlake Consortium.
“The purchase remains subject to the Government issuing the required sale licence and the satisfactory completion of the final stages of the transaction.”
Having been chosen as the preferred bidder last month, Chelsea confirmed Boehly’s group had reached an agreement to buy the club from Roman Abramovich for £4.25 billion on May 6.
Chelsea previously stated the Boehly group will pay £2.5 billion for shares in the club, with proceeds going to a frozen bank account to be donated to charity.

By ‘man up’ do you mean being a petulant child?
No I mean manning up. Have you ever heard any player speak ill of Ronaldo? Any former teammate could earn millions writing a book how Ronaldo acts like a petulant child, yet no one has ever done so.
And dont be "footballers arent like that" because there are tons of instances where former teammates have spoken ill about another if if it was deserved
