Chelsea had 6 months of Lampard. Liverpool had their entire defence wiped out by injury. Spurs had a toxic dressing room with Mourinho and a bunch of players out of contract who would end up leaving. Arsenal were in full rebuild. United finished 2nd by default. you cant expect anyone to take you seriously when you show how blindly you hate united in every post related to united. no one expected united to finish 2nd again. most people would have accepted a 3rd/4th position, but the expectation was that at least the points gap between liverpool/city and united should be closer. if you genuinely think that people thought tottenham and arsenal were favourites to end the season above united then youre deluded. it took uniteds worst ever season in pl history for tottenham and arsenal to barely finish above us.

Fair enough, you're right. I do hate them. And I agree that not many people expected spurs and arsenal to finish ahead of them.
A lot of people were calling them title contenders this year though. This was never going to be the case.

The lineup has me slightly nervous but I still think we win by 2

Oh dear, Leeds in BIG trouble now. Ayling season over from his red card.

Lol Ayling's performance.. In 25 minutes of play he's involved in both goals Leeds concedes (one bad pass and one instance of being too passive), and then he creates an idiotic red card next to the corner flag.
Leeds looking like they're unraveling.

Somehow in true Arsenal fashion, they decide to let 10 men leeds score from their first corner and first shot of game....xD

Jesus 10 minutes into the second half and City are at 99:1 and 108:0 against Newcastle in possession/successful passes
Absolutely crushing this game

That trashing put City above Liverpool in goal difference. This could get pretty crazy if both teams feel like it's a necessity to pad the goal difference as much as they can.

Liverpool can't really play riskier in order to pad the GD stat at the increased risk of losing. And if they can somehow just play better then it's good regardless... and they should have been doing so already
And City really doesn't care about GD as long as they cruise out the last few matches ahead on points. They've pretty much won the league at this point.

I think it's 3 points currently. That sort of leaves open City dropping one game and losing the title. 4 points would be a completely different story.
I'm not sure either if City really cares about GD that much, but the 5-0 sort of felt like they're still aware of the possibility.

I dunno. Maybe I just follow more attack-minded teams, although Pep and Klopp are both attack-minded coaches. But my impression is generally that domination leads to goals (and not domination in that the opponent is intentionally parking the bus, but the real kind). I didn't see City Vs Newcastle, but by all accounts, Newcastle got thrashed and the score accurately reflects that. I guess being aware of GD as a factor can lead you to keep pushing after the 4-0 to try to get more goals, but sometimes that happens anyway. Especially for attack-minded teams.

The only way City don't win from here is another defensive injury or red card. Dias has joined Stones and Walker in being ruled out for the rest of the season. They still have a back 4 of Zinchenko, Laporte, Ake and Cancelo which is strong enough to see them through but there is literally noone left if one of them becomes unavailable.
|
City could field complete academy backline and still win the title. Their remaining fixtures since Liverpool vs City game were/are so easy. The Premier league isnt so "hard" and full of "strong" teams like the English keep bragging about.
There are 2-3 teams Liverpool/City really need to be 100% for to win. The rest they could beat with their B-teams

It's pretty fascinating - City has played 8 PL games this season where they didn't win (3 losses, 5 draws) - but these 8 games are against 4 different teams. 2 losses vs Tottenham, 2 draws vs Liverpool, 2 draws vs Southampton, 1 draw and 1 loss against Crystal Palace. Two wins against every other team.
Liverpool also has two draws against tottenham, chelsea and city, but four more 'random' losses/draws against other teams.

Season defining game for Fiorentina and Roma tonight. Loser will likely miss the Europa League, Roma's goal difference will become too poor and Fiorentina won't have enough points.

I’d like to see them both in, if Roma lose this one but win the Conference League that should do it right?
