If they do not make it to the CL next year then it might be a better result. Pep will have a year to get his team going, with the sole focus of winning the PL. The pressure in PL is much much greater than that of Liga or Bundesliga, and the media is much worse so not sure how Pep will handle it. Anyway as a United fanboy I can't be happier with this result Still an uphill battle, imho. West Ham is not an easy away game to have to win... I thought that at the start but actually West Ham is not that strong at home lol. I remember they lost quite a few matches there, including the recent 1-4 defeat to Swansea. Whilst you are right, it is the last ever football match to be played at Upton Park, it is going to be a very emotional and big game that. I am sure they will be playing with another 10%, whether it is enough though i don't know Well I hope West Ham does us a favour since they have nothing to play for anymore :D Anyway I'm torn between what would happen if United get top 4. If they do get top 4, it would mean LVG most likely stays another year and we have to deal with his crap football for another year or; United don't make top 4, which seems to be the more likely case seeing how crappy we are, but then would more likely mean a change of manager but no CL next year. I feel ya...
Though I do believe that if the guys upstairs want LVG out, he will be regardless of whether United will make Top 4. I mean he's been provided with a fuckton of money and the best results are barely making it to the CL qualifiers in both years. I think LVG is good at spotting young talents, he's done it with Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and to a certain extent United (Rashford, Fosu-Mensah .etc are full of potential). Best scenario will be keeping him as a consultant on players development and get a decent coach. His style just doesn't work unless he can get a team that click together really well which probably will take couple of years if not more. Unfortunately with the current expectation of football fans nowadays, success must come straightaway, especially at a top team like United.
Then again it gives us another trade-off. Do we want to get a Mourinho-like coach who can come in, spend a lot of money on quality players and win titles for a year or two and it goes downhill? Or do we want to be patient and get less profile coach (someone like Pochettino) and give him time to build up a young squad that can potentially provide success for several years afterward? Based on the existing evidences I highly doubt the latter will happen.

Hummels is confirmed as well (if he passes the mandatory medical check obviously). Leaves BVB for ~35 million €

Well... if they get lucky, and City justs buys their Spanish players Pep brought, there is even room in the top11 for Hummels and Renato Sanches. And knowing how reasonable transfer amounts to English clubs are, they may even turn those horrible deals into a plus.

yeah just read that they added a lot of bonus clauses or something. Apparently they payed 35m€, which still feels like a lot for a player after a single season.

Yeah you can bet money on Pep raiding Bayern for some players.

Another overhyped player from the portuguese league. The portuguese are really good at hyping their players, but they are rarely as good as advertised. I dont know what that guy did to justify the 35milion euro. At the same time proven and experienced centre back costs 38M euro...

That centre back had only one year left on his contract... You won't find many other players causing such a transfer fee with just a year left. But I guess, with Pep gone Bayern is now reconsidering their old approach of bidding for the best German players, so paying some extra is fine for that.
PS: I'm in no way saying, that paying 35m+ for a 19yo kid, that hasn't shown anything is worth it. Just that Hummals was certainly not cheap.

Is he overhyped though? He's accomplished a lot at 18. And yea surprised that Bayern got it done so fast when Man Utd wanted him and the rumoured priced was this much.

he is the most overhyped portuguese player ever even more than Bebe(when he went to ManU).
don't get me wrong he is a good player.. but not that amount of money good. anyway good luck to him hope he becomes better there.

This is what you need to pay for potential. The guy is 18 year old and played at a great level this year. He already played 48 games this year as part of the starting XI.
When Martial went to Man Utd he had done far less.
As for the portuguese being good at hyping players I don't really know what do you mean... From the players that were in the Portuguese leagues in the recent past you have:
James in Real Madrid André Gomes in Valencia rumored to go to Juventus Matic in Chelsea Ramires in Chelsea David Luiz in PSG Di Maria in PSG, but he has been all over the place. Otamendi in Man City Danilo in Real Madrid Alex Sandro in Juventus Oblak in Atletico Madrid
Of course from time to time you have overhyped players but that's the price to pay when you have so many players that turn out great...
And you'll most likely see more "overhyped" transfers in the next few month.
I'm almost sure that João Mário will go somewhere else by a big sum.

nah he is a Sporting player. Jorge Mendes just makes those deals with Porto and Benfica so he can get most of the money ;x

We'll see...
I think that by the end of this season we'll have some players leaving Benfica and Sporting:
João Mário, William Carvalho and Slimani from Sporting Gaitan from Benfica (Since Renato already left)
