See, I had Cerrone take 1 and 2, but 2 was definitely a toss up and I'm totally fine with someone giving it to Bendo. I think it was one of those fights that either guy had a case for winning. Make me hate such "short" fights

edit: wish cowboy and bendo would have had more of a grappling match, tbh. Wanted to see some ground work out of em. edit2: damn, was hoping Siver would offer more than that. Ah well, the hype train rolls forward. Good for Dana.

I watched the Cowboy vs Benson fight at a bar with zero sound (so no Rogan bias), and I definitely scored it for Benson. I thought round 1 was super close, I woulda given it a draw, but Benson took round two. He was throwing so many of those front kicks to the knee area, and Cerrone didn't deal with them at all. I felt like Cerrone was thrown off his rhythm and his offence was shut down by those front knee kicks. Third round, I scored it for Benson aswell, I thought Benson landed a bit more and was just more in control, again with the use of those front kicks to the lead leg. Also, I didn't hear what was said for the post fight interview, but by the expression on their faces, Cerrone himself looked surprised that the judges gave it to him, so that should say something. Also, Benson seemed pissed off during the interview lol. also, the contrasting expressions in the above picture is awesome.

I hate when Joe Rogan tells us who's winning and who isn't. His voice seems to dictate the narrative of combat sports because the fans start repeating the stuff he says as fact. He's not watching the show on a screen like we are. He sees it through a cage from his seat below the octagon. Additionally, he is a hype-man. Part of his job is to be a storyteller to puff up mismatches, like DC versus Jon Jones. The truth is, Siver never had a chance against McGregor. Siver was mad because McGregor was ranked higher than him, and McGregor basically said "I'm ranked higher because I'm better than you." and then Dennis Siver was put in a position where he felt like he had to call McGregor out, which McGregor then accepted and then the ensuing massacre took place. I was surprised that the fight even took place. I figured McGregor would fight someone like Cub Swanson after Dustin Poirier. Do I think Swanson can beat McGregor? Not really, but it makes more sense for a title contention/eliminator. So, Jose Aldo vs Conor McGregor. Right now, Jose Aldo is seen by the fans as an unstoppable wrecking machine. But he's human. Chan Sung-Jung showed some success throwing some wild flying knees at Aldo, but I think that fight ended prematurely because of Chan's injury. I might have to go back and rewatch that fight though since it was awhile ago, but I remember that Aldo looked superior, but not invincible. His fight with Frankie Edgar was much closer, and although Edgar is known as a wrestler, he has very good striking. In Aldo's fight against Chad Mendes (the second one), again, you saw Aldo take a lot of big hits, maybe rocked once. The point I'm making is, Aldo has shown cracks in his armor over time against good strikers. Aldo has a ton of striking power, but then again, so does McGregor. Something I don't think most people are thinking about though is the movement of McGregor, who has excellent footwork to keep himself at whichever range he wants. Chad Mendes also showed some really good movement in his second fight with Aldo, but he wasn't 'long enough' (that's what she said) to really put the hurt on Aldo, and Aldo was able to eventually take away the movement of Mendes with leg kicks. One of the big reasons Mendes utilized a lot of movement is because he simply didn't want to get hit with a big shot, because it happened before, and he wanted to avoid those power shots of Aldo, move into the pocket, land strikes and then get out. This strategy got him fairly deep into the fight despite some close calls where he got saved by the bell. McGregor, conversely, has just as good of footwork (if not better) and more range and power to work with. Another X-factor is Aldo's kicks being taken away. Chan Sung-Jung trained specifically for the leg-kick of Jose Aldo, and stopped one of them in the first round with a leg check that actually hurt Aldo bad enough to prevent him from using his kicks to much effect in the fight. The point isn't that "McGregor will win", but don't jump on the Jose Aldo hype train and start thinking that McGregor is facing an impossible challenge, because it's quite possible that McGregor could win that fight, and the fight might even go the distance.

The reason I wasn't a fan of Benson Henderson is because I felt like he was a do-nothing fighter who just went for decisions, but he actually did stuff during this fight, and I liked seeing him do that. If he keeps that up, I might end up enjoying his fights.
