I determine performances based on how dangerous the fighters looked against each other rather than points accumulated. If you're going by points, then of course Jones won. But upon analyzing the fight, neither fighter was in any danger of being KO'd or submitted. Jones took Cormier down 3 times but it didn't do anything to him. Cormier took Jones down once or twice but it didn't do anything to him. Jones had some time impressive kicks and punches to Cormier's midsection while the latter had some great shots to Jones's face (Cormier's uppercuts were the most significant strikes landed in the fight, imo).
The GsP vs. Hendricks fight comes to mind (so as to illustrate my point). GsP won by accumulating points, but come on now... Hendricks was the much more dangerous opponent and GsP was in clear danger of being KO'd.
But anyway, what was with Herb Dean not separating JJ & DC during the hugging contest we saw in the fifth round? It was a snooze fest.

I don't know how you could rate that fight as DC being more dangerous. Maybe round 2 DC got a couple decent hits in, but you can't just rate DC's hit and not account for all the shots Jones snuck into DC, not to mention the constant grind on DC that Jones was putting on him. Even in the post fight conference DC mentioned the early body shots of Jones affected him the rest of that fight. I'm not a fan of Jones, but it was pretty clear cut who won that fight.

Yes, but then that becomes an argument of the point-scoring system, rather than the fight itself. Keep in mind that fighters win a decision as a contest, not just as a fight. Meaning who did the most damage in terms of strikes landed and style of dominance as opposed to looking like you've gotten the shit beat out of you.
I'll somewhat concede that with the fight in its whole, neither fighter really managed anything to really stagger/beat their opponents convincingly, but both also had areas of success, as you stated, Jones' body strikes (which Cormier acknowledged hurt him in the first round) and Cormier's strikes in the clinch. But again, it's points per round, not judging the fight as a whole.
Funny, Cormier even said "we were just pretty much just hugging each other in the 5th round" when asked about how he would have scored the fight.

I thought 2nd round, I fought pretty well. 3rd round, I thought I started to run well, and didn't finish the 3rd round very well. 4th round, I took it off, uhh, he won that one going away. And in the 5th round, I think neither one of us did much at all, we kind of just hugged each other for 5 minutes.. I don't know how to judge a fight, so, I know I lost."

From a fight perspective there was nothing Cormier could really do imo. Jones had figured him out by the 3rd round. Though I'll admit it was a bit pussy of Jon to coast out round 5, but considering how rounds 1-4 went, could you really blame him? There was no answer from DC in those 5 rounds to Jones's reach, and that was pretty obvious in how the fight went.

The entire main cards was pretty disappointing. Only cool bits were Cerrone wailing on Miles Jury's legs/ass, and the takedowns in Jones/DC fight. The prelim cards were super exciting though.

Other than Nick Diaz in a few weeks, what other welterweights has he fought in the recent past?
But yes, I agree with your implication, that Silva should not be fighting Weidman again. There are interesting middleweight bouts lined up soon, such as Romero vs Souza and Machida vs Rockhold, so why skip all of those guys with momentum for Silva...? Weidman is a pretty likable dude, why does it seem like the UFC is desperate to have Silva has the champ?
I dunno, it's probably just me, but I'm slowly getting this sense that the UFC is screwing itself over right now with all these unwanted title fights, their way of handling the Jon Jones fiasco, boosting the pay-per-view prices, and somewhat because of this Reebok uniform deal.
