Dam, how come there's no love for Rory MacDonald in this thread lol.

I didn't always like him, but I've now grown quite fond of his style. Completely shutting down a beast like Woodley was fascinating, and I have full confidence that he will do the same to Lombard. I even think he'll get the finish if Lombard fights like his last fight.

I wanna see him take the Championship just to complete the story of GSP retiring, and his protege carrying on his will after him.

Lady in red is McGregor's girlfriend, Dee Devlin. Lady in black/white being held back by Devlin is a relative of McGregor, but not his daughter. You can slightly see McGregor's dad, past his head. He was also trying to stop him from getting too close, though it looks likes he's laughing in the picture, he had a pretty serious expression on his face in the video. And the guy laughing at McGregor is some dude called Jose Aldo.

I actually didn't even get to watch the event, but judging by the number of finishes and that last scene McGregor caused, I'd guess it was somewhat of a success... I believe the viewership was incredibly high, taking into account that it was only a Fight Night event as well, it piggy-backed off of the NFL playoff games rather well. Could also be because it's McGregor too. Anyways, pretty stoked to see Aldo vs McGregor now. Curious to see where they have the venue for the fight though. I'd imagine it'd be one of the most anticipated event ever, and having it in Vegas would be such a waste. At the same time, Brazil and Ireland would be great but also risky in the sense that judges would always be a factor.

If only they came here to Dallas to fight in AT&T Stadium...

The Woodley fight was good for him, but I think to stand out he needs to start finishing guys. Guys (and Girls) who finish people are the ones that get the most recognition and get the title shots first. The reason St. Pierre became popular was because of how he was able to get finishes earlier in his career, like submitting Frank Trigg, beating up Sean Sherk, and getting two finishing wins over Matt Hughes.

look for muted applause and a smattering of boos from the montreal crowd for Rory Macdonald at UFC 186.
Rory's only chance of endearing himself to montreal is to carry a GSP statue with him to the octogon.

the guy's home town is 4000+ km away from montreal and now he is trying to call UFC 186 his first "home city fight".
shut up Rory... you speak about as much french as joe rogan. but, at least joe rogan doesn't run around claiming montreal is his home.

its going to take a string of mike-tyson-level knockouts for Rory to become a serious draw in Quebec.

Someone who I hope makes a significant mark on the 24th is flyweight Chris Beal. His fight with Patrick Williams showed that he can definitely stay calm under pressure, as Williams stayed on him for the better part of the first round, and Beal showed great finishing ability with a flying knee. A couple of wins here, maybe a fight with John Moraga or Chris Cariaso later on, and he can have a decent shot at Demetrious Johnson. He seems to have crisp striking with a nice mix of explosiveness. I'm definitely on the lookout for him.

There is so much wrong in this it's crazy. He wasn't born in Montreal but he lives and trains there and has for years. How would you know how much French he speaks and why does it matter? Montreal is over 50% English and he very well could know French from growing up in B.C. as Canadians we all take it for at least grades 4-6 and many take it much longer. He likely knows at least the basics and has picked up more training with so many French fights and now LIVING in Quebec. It's super common for people to call it a home fight when the fight is where they LIVE and TRAIN. It does not have to be where you are born.

so u are predicting great support for Rory at UFC 186? is that your conclusion? ROFLMAO.
make a prediction guy... i've made mine. Rory can't draw flies.

listen to the way rory says french names. LOL
Macdonald didn't move to montreal until he was 22 or 23 and he is now what ? 25?

to be a serious draw in quebec you have to speak french. rory does not speak french

Rory will never have even 1/10th the support that GSP has in Quebec.,, and 1 big reason is his very poor command of the french language. Maybe he can take some lessons from a smart anglophone like Bob Gainey.

as far as your "french language education in canada" ... sry man but memorizing present tense conjugations for avoir and etre doesn't mean you can speak french... lol. good one though.

Bob Gainey would never have attained legend-status in quebec without learning how to speak french. this applies to any anglophone sports guy that plays in quebec including macdonald.

i'm expecting the lowest gate for a UFC PPV in montreal and a lot less than the 3.7 million of 2 years ago... like a lot more than the 15% decline in the canadian dollar.

No where did I say that he is going to be a draw to the level of GSP. I said it's not ridiculous to call it a home town fight. I also think he will get lots of cheers and no boo's because he is Canadian and it's in Canada. I also didn't say everyone in Canada can speak fluent French I said he likely picked up the basics. Do you have 0 reading comprehension? Koivu is a star in Montreal and he's not French he's not even Canadian. I guess getting banned from the NHL thread didn't teach you anything. I'll learn to just ignore you on here from now on.

you stated everything in my post was wrong. you got a rebuttal.

quebecers let non-canadians get away with not speaking french. koivu is no where near GSP or Gainey level of status.

the culture difference between montreal, quebec and quesnel, bc couldn't be bigger.
everything about rory screams "small town, anglo northern canada".
nothing about him gives off a "big city francophone cosmopolitan" vibe. nothing.

check the Canadian census. less then 20% of Montrealers speak english at home... over 50% speak french at home.

A have not seen a press event with the french language media involving Rory Macdonald. bad move on his part.

the reason rory macdonald is not getting his promised title shot is that he can't draw in montreal which is the best place in canada to hold a UFC PPV. we'll know on april 25.
