You will surely benefit from strength training, but specifically soccer is perfect for HIIT, or rather the other way around. Training sprint intervals is basically training exactly what you will be doing on the pitch: Fast sprints alternating with running and light jogging.
Do we have HIIT specific resources in this forum?

I would practice sprints with the ball You look like an idiot when you try to go fast with it and end up kicking it out of bounds or passing it to the goalie :D

I tried out a new gym today because mine only has one squat rack. This one had zero squat racks, and when I asked where it was. The guy pointed me to the Smith machine. People were benching in it. He had never heard of a squat rack. I was wtf'ing so hard. When he asked me what exercises I did and I told him the SS routine he was like: Do you do that at home? Yes, I do that at home. That's why I am here? What the fuck? Anyway, I figured, might as well deadlift some. So I grabbed a rubber plate. Which I thought was 25 kg, but when I picked it up it was 5 kg. It was freaking huge rofl and I had a hard time to find 80 kg of plates. There was about 200 kg in the whole gym. I was in a complete state of what the fuck do I do for about 30 minutes. Then I left. Ofcourse he had to ask me why I left so early. I told him why and then he tried to convince me for a good 10 minutes the gym was great, that they had everything and that even professional bodybuilders come here, great I don't want to be a bodybuilder, I just want to be strong. After bullshiting for another 5 minutes he told me I shouldn't hold myself back by sticking to the same routine and that it's better to adapt to a new workout. He pointed out I could also work out my legs without squats(no leg press machine in sight). Damn.... I didn't know there were such silly gyms.

Seem to have accidentally fallen into a keto diet the last two weeks with graduation going on. Was incredibly easy, tastes good, and after doing a carb-up last night/today, I feel like I haven't lost any size (despite terrible gym attendance and graduation and all the liquor I can drink the last few weeks) and I suddenly found my abs again. Shit is amazing. I know what I'm going to do when ever I feel the need for a cut coming on... of course, abs on a skinny guy... so I don't think I'll be able to give it a "real" run until I at least break 210 (~20 lbs from now).
On that note - going to bulk hard all summer. Rugby team is going to spain in march of next year (spring break-ish time) and recent alumni are invited... sounds like a great reason to stay in shape and get strong again to me, especially since I can really squat now (and mostly deadlift).

f uuuuuuuuuu i would love to go on a tour to spain. i think our school might do somewhere in the carribbean which i would go to in a heart beat.

Why would you want to play rugby in Spain? Instant broken ribs and legs when you are tackled lol. I guess maybe if it's in the north but otherwise would be hard as fuck and ridiculously hot. Probably even in Spring o.O.
@ Recognizable. Jesus Christ...that sounds like my own personal version of hell.

We do a tour every two years. I think we did South Africa a few years back, Argentina the year I was a freshman (3 years ago) and scotland last year - I'm not sure why spain is the natural progression from those... but this is also probably the only opportunity I will have to ever go to spain, and it's the last chance I will ever have to play with my college club since I'm an alumni now, both of which are a good enough reason to break ribs imo.
Not sure where in spain it will be - it's usually a "3 cities in 9 days" type deal, and last year 8 of those days had matches, two of them had more than one match. With that much rugby (and the amount of drinking involved afterwards) it's pretty much guaranteed there will be injuries for half the squad. Oh well - all the more reason to be the biggest guy on the field?

Lol dat progression of tour destinations. Basically going down in quality each time (at least in terms of the rep of the countries in rugby). Next tour will be of some small island which hasn't actually been introduced to the game of rugby xD.
Good for you anyway, but I can remember the horror of playing rugger on hard dry ground and it's something I would never willingly expose myself to. Probably best to bulk up as you say and Lomu your way through the pitch .

Considering I'm a second row/eight man depending on the team we field, I don't think there's any risk of me lomu'ing anything lol. I think the next two planned tours are actually back to South Africa, and then to France, but as those are 3 and 5 years away respectively, there's plenty of time for that still to change.

Haha. I know a few people who have donated their collar bones and floating ribs to rugby. Rugby players are mad no matter where they come from I guess.

Damnit. I suffer from the "butt wink" during squats. My mother who is a yoga teacher gave me some stretching exercises, hopefully it'll get better.

My secondary school went on rugby tour to South Africa, it was good. My year was the first to go back to South Africa after the whole coach got mugged at gun point when it stopped at a traffic light, the school had to just do France for a few years after that.

Just an update on my situation.
I had an injury on my right glute, it felt like some sharp pain whenever I did weights (specially squats and deadlift). After 2-3months of resting I can feel that I'm fine, and I'm going to start hitting the gym soon, gonna start slow and increase the intensity and weights as I start.
As I've gotten extremely fat. I seriously hate myself now, I'll start doing some insane HIIT or cardio to speed up the fat burning and start working out well.
What is the general concensous on the cardio stuff? After or before weights?
I'll be doing some of the SS core exercises (press, powerclean, squats, deadlifts) and I'll add from there, maybe front squats (which I love) and some other stuff.
Can't wait to hit the gym and start getting myself back together.
Cheers!
Edit: Also, this.

After weights. If you are tired your form will suffer and there is broscience out there that says you burn fat faster because your glycogen storages are depleted because of the weight lifiting.
Please share, I'm still looking for a way to stretch my hamstrings that I don't hate.
It's hard to explain and I couldn't find a picture :/

Get well soon and start squatting dem plates

The "bar goes here" was pretty good I think =) Works for both chins and front squats. I could never wear a shirt like that myself though. If I'm gonna wear a lifting motif it needs to be funny.
