Don't PM me, I don't want to argue -_-
I enjoy the occasional, rational argument. All the better if both parties are having the argument for the sake of the argument, you can have fun with it. But when someone feels as strongly about it as IgnE there's just no fun in it for me. I made that mistake earlier this week, I ripped on the dating sim Katawa Shoujo in the LoL OT, and someone felt really strongly about it and the whole thing just got really ugly.
I don't approve of steroids. I don't think they have anything to do with health and fitness. That's all I have to say.

I bet most people in this thread lift for vanity. If the only thing improving was your heart health and cholesterol, and you still looked like exactly the same fat schlub, very few people would continue to do it for very long.

You forgot to say that you don't know anything about steroids.

IgnE, the whole point of bodybuilding is to conform to someone else's image of what the perfect physique is. There is nothing else in the world that screams vanity and self-consciousness (in a bad way) louder and more conspicuously.
Being a professional athlete and taking PEDs to improve your performance, while vain in a different way, is being more dishonest about your true performance and trying to create an image that you are more valuable than you may actually be. It's not the best thing, but someone like Barry Bonds wasn't taking roids so he could get admiration from his fans (if he had/has any).
To each his own, but I don't see the point in spending all of your time dedicated to becoming the image of what someone else idolizes. That just oozes of insecurity. Obviously there are people who truly do enjoy the sport/profession and pour a lot of their time into it because it's what makes them happy, but I would wager to say that the vast majority of them do it for the wrong reasons.
The difference between bodybuilding and true professionals in their fields is that many of them would do their job for no money and don't really care what other people's opinions of it are. Professional bodybuilding tends to be the complete opposite and is solely for the reaction of others. This is especially reflected in the amateur bodybuilding scene, especially with younger guys (high school - late 20s - early 30s).

I spent enough time on /fit/, watched enough documentaries and read enough articles to know plenty about steroids. Now please stop.

I disagree with absolutely everything in this post but I really don't feel like arguing about that stuff, I would just like to inform you that the amount of money you get from bodybuilding is ridiculously low unless you're top olympia level, and even then most of the olympia guys work full time jobs. And if you're outside the US it's even worse.

You forgot the getting stronger part. I can't speak for other people but my motivation for my training probably like 50% because I enjoy it, 25% to get stronger and 25% vanity. Although I don't lift much atm, mostly just muay thai and some bodyweight work.

Igne, please stop. You're shouting things and making up random arguments and nobody here wants to argue ~~ This is a place for learning and sharing not flame wars.
Made it back from camping/raving all weekend. Pretty sure i didn't lose any muscle because I had to carry like a hundred pounds of stuff about two miles each way and then walked probably another ten miles on top of dancing like a maniac. Time to get back to eating good food and working out, need to get this body back up to top form for the rest of rugby season ~~
|
you sweat so much when dancing, and if you have a partner or a bunch of stumbling people you can practice lifting and pressing.. its like HIT with a bunch of carb shakes

Back in mid-April I went to Canada for 3 weeks; couldn't really workout. Came back to Korea, got married, honeymoon, new job... summer was full of eating/drinking. Kept on working out fine but I've been gaining way too much fucking weight. I went to Canada at about 79-80kg now I'm about 90kg. Gotta drop this fuckin' weight. >_< Seems like there's always some excuse for my friends to get together and gorge on Korean BBQ/beer once-twice a week, at least. Fortunately, at least 3-4 kg of that is "bloat" that could go away in a couple weeks if I'm disciplined enough. Need to maintain that discipline though..
At least I'm still lifting consistently, but I'm not making any significant gains to warrant this extra fat.

Sheeit don't get me started on dancing, you do it properly and you'll no doubt get high quality burning in your quads.

Getting stronger is also a vanity project.
I'm honestly quite surprised so many people hate on bodybuilding in this thread. Although maybe I shouldn't be.It's usually the fitness guys who can't even press 60 kilos that hate on bodybuilding. Lots of projection going on.

Lol not very subtle. Start a bodybuilding thread or something, this is health and fitness.
|
It might be time to start asking yourself if you might not be the one projecting today IgnE. Either way, calm down, nobody's hating on bodybuilding.

Please elaborate. Are you going to make me quote your previous posts? Anyone who drinks a known poison, alcohol, but disapproves of steroid usage as too dangerous is either A) ignorant, having only watched some scare documentaries and read some internet horror stories about people who didn't know what they were doing or B) a deliberate, insecure hypocrite.
Oh, you mean alcohol can be imbibed responsibly? How many people die from steroid usage every year?
|
I'm not with Igne's fanatical attitude, but yeah lol @ at the hating on bodybuilding. I think taking the moral high ground between oly lifting/powerlifting/bodybuilding is so petty. Not to mention cycling imo, thriatlon or any other individual sports really.
Also, yeah steroids are awesome and that's why they are considered cheating. There is a huge difference between taking as much as you can without dying (Mr. Olympia level) and having your "optimum" testosterone level. People saying your liver is gonna blow up and shit are just fearmongers. I have friends who do a cycle of test and curls before summer and wear a six pack despite drinking the entire time, roids just work period.
just google any hollywood actor in his 45-60s, that's how you stay young with proper steroid usage and some plastic surgery (Tom Cruise is immortal imo)
Disclaimer: I've never juiced

Ok, so I have a question about nutrition. This morning after I woke up late (i have the day off) I got a wild hair up my ass and decided I was going to bike our local bike trail to the next town. That's ~8.5 Miles one way, so a 17ish mile ride altogether. I plugged this into a calorie counter, and for someone my size (215; give or take a few for water weight). that's about 1000 calories at a nice leasiurly pace (and I did try to cycle a bit more rigorously when I felt I could); a bit over a three hour endeavor after stopping for awhile to admire the scenery and have a nice frozen custard and some water.
Usually I run for 20 mins 4 days a week at a slowish pace (building my endurance with future ambitions of getting into half's and full marathons within the next few years) or do a heavy bag/calisthenics workout for cardio, along with weight training (Starting Strength Program). This was a big jump in the amount of physical activity. So I feel like a hot bag of shit right now, and I don't know if it's pure exhaustion or if I need to be doing something nutritionally. Here was my day in terms of intake/output
Wake up ~2PM (yay for days off) - Aproximatly 12 hours of sleep Consumed ~5 glasses of water (40 oz's) Ritual Hygene (teeth, shower, shaving, etc) ~3 PM Breakfast. Half of an onion and half of a bell pepper sauteed in coconut oil with 2 eggs scrambled with a cup of raw spinach mixed in, 2 pieces of bacon and 2 more glasses of water - Aprox. 500 Calories acording to a cal counter ~4 PM Set out ~5 PM Arrive at destination Snack; Baby sized frozen Custard at the local ice cream shop with a large water (12 oz if I had to guess) - aprox 210 Calories according to a guess from google ~5:30 Set out on the way back ~7 Arrive Home ; More hilly on the return trip, Had to stop to rest several times; really felt like shit Lunch ~6oz of Chuck Steak leftover from previous night with 12 squares of Black and Green's organic 85% cacao chocoloate and another 40 oz or so of water - Aprox 500 Calories http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/calories/green-blacks-organic-dark-85-cacao-bar-91785837
Altogether, that's 1200ish calories worth of food, but 1000 or so expenditure from exercise. I also wore my termal running ware because of ovecast/slightly chilly weather but it ended up clearing up and getting pretty hot so I probably sweat more than normal.
Now, my diet plan has been to consume ~1900 calories a day (creating a deficit such that I lose 2 lbs/week). I have recently started to change my diet a bit as I started consuming massive amounts of fruits along with lots of whole grains and a small amount of meat. After hearing a bit about paleo I have cut wheat out of my diet, and am researching the rest of the paleo lifestyle as we speak, but I consume much more meat and fats in general (the chocolate I bought was a suggestion from a cool website I found called mark's daily apple; my cholesterol intake seems to be way above what standard knoledge would suggest, but I've been told that a lot of what we've been told about cholesterol is false, so I'm sticking with this for now until I can make my own decision based on some research), fewer fruits and sugars, and more vegetables along with my total carbs going down a whole lot due to no longer eating breads (most days I'm below 150g a day).
Now, according to my diet, I still need to consume almost 1700 calories today, and that's taking into consideration that I'm already cutting 1000 calories a day to lose 2lb/week (what I was recommended at the start of my weight loss as a safe goal). Now, I only have 1 meal left today and perhaps a small snack. Should I gorge myself to reach that 1700 cals? I can't imagine eating 2000 or more fewer calories than you need per day can be healthy. What changes can I make throughout the day to help with exercise like this?
Another thing I'm worried about is the custard. I knew I should probably eat something, and give myself at the very least 30 mins to allow it to digest before exercising again. There was a frozen custard shoppe right there, and it sounded good (going back to my previous diet, I ate a TON of fruit after exercise and the sugars really gave me a boost; from what I (think I) know now, I was using the glucose as an easy fuel instead of burning fats which aren't as convenient and easy of a fuel source but requires less insulin; I was listening to a podcast by Tait Fletcher Recently that discussed this if you're interested in where some of my information comes from, it was the stay bulletproof podcast ep 17). It seems like a pretty empty source of calories, and I really started to feel like shit on the way back; granted I had just cycled for an hour with varying degrees of intensity, so some of it had to be muscle fatigue. Is this OK? What would be a good alternative that you could find quickly/easily in a convenience or food service place that usually accrue along these state trails?
What Should I be eating for dinner? Recently I have been eating 1-2 cups of a green veggie (usually broccolli) with a tbs of butter and light salt, a steak or large chicken breast with maybe a small piece of fruit and (if calories allow) perhaps either a baked sweet potato with spinach, or some cottage cheese. Eating a regular dinner of 600-1000 calories and being almost an extra 1000 calories underbudget seems unhealthy. However, It seems Stuffing 1700 Calories in my face would also be unhealthy.
A appreciate anyone who reads through this mess and tries to give me advice, but I'm an open slate, I would love to hear what I'm doing wrong and how to improve. I would like to make rides like this a bigger part of my exercise routine as currently I am exercising only 4 days a week and it seems like I should be getting at least SOME exercise 7 days a week besides the walking/running I do in my job as a chef, so I need to start mixing other stuff in besides my 4 days at the gym.
Thanks. Peace
Edit: Forgot to mention. My breakfast was as it usually is, I explained my usual dinner. My lunch usually consists of soup (usually home made frozen Vegetable beef that I thaw there with corn, green bean, carrots, potatoes and beef mixed in a vegetable juice base) with some cottage cheese most days because that's the healthiest thing I can eat at work (in my mind, at least)

your nutrition sounds fine. you're eating real, unprocessed food for the most part, and you get in enough fruit, veggies, and meat for your daily amounts of micronutrients. you're drinking a good amount of water.
don't worry about your dietary cholesterol intake; it doesn't really correlate with your blood cholesterol levels. if you're eating a good variety of real foods, your blood cholesterol levels should be fine. keep eating eggs!
your exhaustion sounds like a result of not having enough calories. simply put, you gotta eat more.if you want to take in a lot of calories, but are finding it difficult, try eating calorie dense foods. nuts and seeds as snacks throughout the day, for example. drink a lot of whole milk. and try to increase the amount of food you're eating at each meal, instead of trying to cram in 1500 calories at one time. instead, it's probably easier to add 500 more calories to each of your 3 meals. throw in another egg for breakfast, or some more meat for lunch and dinner. you could also get fattier cuts of meat for more calories (like skin-on chicken thighs). if you still cannot get enough calories, eat some junk food lol. you're already getting in a lot of nutritious foods, a little junk food won't hurt, and it's better than feeling exhausted.
about the custard and empty calories. of course it would be better to eat something more nutritious, but the rest of your diet is already nutritious, so you really shouldn't worry so much over eating some custard lol. everything in moderation. and the custard does have a lot of calories, which is something you need.
in short, your diet looks healthy, you just gotta eat more.
