It's about a 400 mile drive from where I live to Oaxaca, I personally have never been there but if you tell me what part of Oaxaca you're going to (hotel?) I can probably look around for some well known gyms in the area. Mexican gyms suckkkk (just a heads up haha).
Lol, good to know! We're going to be in Oaxaca city...beyond that, I don't have too many more specifics. Chasing a few leads, but any info you could provide would be very helpful!

So I had this plan for the rest of the month and I got sick + have cough-variant asthma, so I've been unable to run or exercise as much as I would like T_T ...
I have, however, hit the gym. Bench pressed and squatted things for the first time in my life. It's amazingly efficient and I think I'm a convert, but need to find a gym with free weights in NY that isn't a billion dollars a month.

So I tried using a belt for the first time today for OHP. It seemed to help with my thoracic spine (no pain atm) but when I took off the belt, I felt very winded and couldn't focus for a good hour or so. Am I using the belt wrong or do I just have to get used to it?
On a happier note, matched my front squat PR of 255 today without too much effort. Definitely capable of lifting more weight in better conditions. + Show Spoiler [255lb front squat] +

Any gym in NYC should do no? I expect most places to have squat racks and benches. The NYSCs and Golds are quite cheap. If you are talking about NY state, try places like Planet Fitness.
Personal recommendations (I don't know what 'a billion dollars a month' actually means) Edge Gym http://www.yelp.com/biz/edge-gym-new-york
This is the gym I planned on using but it was so out of the way for me; great gym if it's reasonably accessible.
Gravity (inside Le Parker Meridian) http://www.yelp.com/biz/gravity-fitness-and-spa-manhattan
This is the gym I used while I was in NYC for four months, and I loved it. It has all the proper equipment, and amazing coaches that offer free advice if you ask them (one guy claimed to be an ex-coach of Russian Olympic lifting team)

The reviews for Gravity mention $135 per month. I would consider that to be a billion and a half dollars - of the three gyms that are not my university I've been a member of, I've never paid more than $30/month, but I assume that college students are not really their target market.

Gym today.
Dude doing shrugs in between my squat sets (dude had massive shoulders so I mean it was working for him) Him/Me "So you trying to bulk up or something?" "Just focusing on strength, but I am eating everything in sight, ya know?" "You should really do more upper body. Will help you gain weight more than squats your legs are already pretty nice." "Ehh, just sticking to the starting strength program as much as i can." "Man those programs are a waste of time. Just really focus on reps, dude." "Right."
I hate uni gym. On top of this I walked up to the squat rack earlier before some dude but he was like oh my friend and I called it. Points to his friend who is doing some weird ohp form across the room. I say alrighty, you guys doing squats can i work in? Nah bud we lift fast. Umm... Ok. Go just chill and grab a drink of water, come back they're doing barbell rows in the squat rack. There's bars all over the room. They needed the power rack to set the bar down so they wouldn't have to bend all the way to the floor to pick them up in between sets. Sigh...
And with that I go back to sleep. Woke up with a wicked cramp in my calf.
Edit: my legs are skinny as fuck if anyone remembers them from my tough murder victory pic lol.

@Decaf; no idea what is my vertical. We have the Bosco jump mat at the gym. I'll try it when I'm on a delaod week. About the car, what is "stick"...?
|
Manual = stick. What's a Bosco?

Automatic with steptronic manual(like the F1 cars). Bosco mat is a mat you jump on and it calculates your vert. precisely. It is the only real way to know your exact vertical jump.
I am really getting good feelings on the snatch. Practiced more than two hours. Later tonight I have my upper body dtrength training to do.

Rough day at work so was ready to lift heavy weights. Today was OHP day. Told myself I would get 3x5. Then reality happened XD

Rough over a month for me. No noticeable improvement in posture. NO gains. I think its just a food issue. I"m also just generally in a down mood :/
|
at a novice level, there should be pretty much constant gains. I assume you are doing SS, so even more so... If you have been getting too little sleep, that may also be a reason. I had a two week sleep deprivation, and had no gains, which was my body saying that it cant take this. Nutrition is of course important, but you should have some gains if you aren't eating at a deficit as far as I know. But you are also recovering from an injury, so you shouldn't pile too many expectations on yourself too fast. IMO deload if you haven't, and fix your sleep and nutrition in one go. Makes it easier to jump back into it, and there's no psychological barrier stopping you from progressing. Keep at it bro

Fuck mood, you should aways be lifting harder and eating more.
JB: John Broz
What do you do when progression halts?
JB: IT WILL! Training lifts will eventually start to go backwards as you enter into the "dark times". When you are so sore and fatigued that you cant even imagine lifting weights. This time is CRUCIAL to training. You MUST persevere and continue to train! Eventually your lifts will begin to improve and you will make progress and PR's while in a totally fatigued state. When you can make progress when feeling like this, this is when you are going somewhere.
To quote Antonio:"the day will never come when you can't lift the bar"
To quote my first coach:" If you wait til you feel good with no aches or pains to train, you will never be here"
Basically, could you give us some more insight into your training protocols?
JB: Train til you can't walk, eat, sleep, repeat.
Everyone should read this
