The whole point of ultras is to allow you to have poor unit control while you take a ton of bases :/

Yes... A huge difference. WoL Ultras did only 15 damage to unarmored units, HotS do their full 35 to everything. HotS Ultras absolutely shred Marines. As a Protoss in WoL you would just laugh and warp in a round of Zealots if you saw Ultras, that doesn't work anymore.

I'm seriously wondering the same thing. To my knowledge, their damage was changed or something.

35+3 in HOTS, but 15+2 with 20+2 bonus (against armoured) in WOL.

Ultras are strong. Didn't you catch that single ultra killing a 2 medivac drop? You just can attack into buildings with them.


In order to tech to ultras at 5/3 you need to spend over 1200 gas, let alone the gas required to get the ultras. Not only this but there was clearly a pack of 20 lings sitting next to the ultra and only half was left when they went back to the fight.

Are you serious ? They are close to be OP. They melt bio like nothing and their synergy with mutas is out standard.
When I see ultra I know I already lose the game.

But Ultras can't be microed at all, they are great to crush an attacking army on creep but you really can't attack with them. They just get kited to death, 10 marauders kill 10 ultras off creep. You can't counter micro vs kiting bio. I'd ove to have that charge from the beta back as an upgrad, of course Terran would need something cool too then :D.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

Tarrasques?

Brood War hero ultralisk. Had some ridiculous stats, like 50 damage and 800 health. And 5 base armour, as well as much high er move speed.

Even though it didn't do splash damage, it was still advised to have a platoon of tanks firing upon them.

Note that this was only a thing in the campaign.
