MOD NOTE: The bracket on Liquipedia is not final and should be assumed to be speculative. If you are a competitor, trust what MLG Admins tell you over the bracket. |
I think he was hoping to catch Oz's army in the open when he pulled his scvs for the first time in game 3 and he sooo nearly did it. Even after that he was still had a chance but once he allowed his 3rd to get killed without repairing he was screwed. Close though, shame he played sooo greedy in game 1.

So.. only Koreans will qualify.. most probably.
That means that NA WCS just turned into some weak version of Code S for Koreans that don't want to commit against the top players of the world and prefer easy money... Well that sounds reeeeally exciting..
Why should I watch this now again? x)
Not to mention that this is only season 1, it is only going to get more swarmed with "not quite code S Koreans"

So one day on TL i read that foreigners should train more and people want to watch only the best games(and so usually koreans) and then we have koreans qualifying to WCS US and people suddenly get angry.

They stopped several Chinese players from competing. They allowed cheaters to participate. They allowed HyuN, who is playing in Code S Korea, to participate. (Though Quantic's management should've told him that he couldn't)
Furthermore, the skill difference between some of the invitees, and the people trying to qualify is ridiculous. If there is one thing that ESL did right, was that their invites were spot on. There was very little place for arguments as to who should be there, and who shouldn't. On the other hand, the qualifiers in NA are more stacked than the Premier Division itself lol.
Blizzard's intention to 'help the scene develop' by allowing Koreans to participate in NA from Korea is ridiculous. Koreans have great infrastructure. NA (and EU) players have zilch. Hell, there's only a handful of North American players you can truly call professionals. Just by 'aspiring to do better', you won't be able to beat the Koreans who practice all day long in team houses with great players and coaches.
Cut the prizepool by 75%, and impose a residency requirement, and NA players will be overjoyed, and it will help develop the scene much more. give some of the rest for another China/SEA league, and you have a great tournament structure. but the thing is, NA players are so bad nobody would watch the tournament. i don't really wanna see Scarlett and Major destroy a bunch of players they should never lose to.

It's a Blizzard tournament, they don't care so much as to the amount of viewers, as to how many people such a tournament could draw to SC2, and keep them playing. It could be supplemented by Koreans living in the US, of which there are quite a few..viOlet, Polt, Shuttle, jookTo, MotoK, Yong, and the other Koreans on American teams who could host them in the US..ROOT, EG, Quantic, coL....it would make a good tournament. I just don't like Koreans playing in NA from Korea, without playing NA ladder, and contributing zilch to the american scene, just taking the prize money.

Well they could do something in between. Invite all the Koreans living in NA, then take in Moonglade, Sen, Demuslim then add in a few Chinese pros and put the 20 best NA players on top of that. Would make for a much more interesting tournament.
Now I fear it will be a weak version of Code S with some NA stomping between the real contenders. I guess there are still 5-6 foreigners that could compete against Koreans in here so one can always hope. On the other hand does it look like it will be 15+ Koreans. For the first seasons that is.
The weird players that got spots like, HelloKitty, Capoch, Maker and some others are just going to get destroyed and be replaced by more so-so Koreans in season 2.

I guess different people post depending on what is going on, reacting. I personally always though it was bullshit that Koreans could play online and take easy money from the NA scene without contributing to anything. If they want to compete in NA they should live there. Seems simple enough.
Anyway good luck in DH, I will be there cheering for you ^ Unless you play against a Swede of course, then I hope you fail miserably x)

Korean all kill incoming. While i like to watch the best possible players(Koreans) play at any tournament,i also feel bad for good AM players who got screwed up by blizz allowing region hopping.

You should realise that there are many opinions on forums like these...

I wouldn't be surprised if we see 'only' 2 koreans qualify trough the open brackets

Because 4 have already qualified overall Yes sorry. Today of course Yeah i could see only 2 Koreans making it today. Losers brackets 2 and 3 don't exactly have the strongest Korean competition since they got mostly stacked in the other two. IIRC PiG is pretty highly rated on the KR server and he would only have to go through Heart and Apocalypse for Koreans. Miya and Hwangsin are the only Koreans in the other bracket. It's doable for foreigners to get 2 spots but it'll still be pretty tough.

only question i have for you is: this will start somewhere around midnight during weekdays for EU. even if no korean would get in, do you think many people from EU will watch it?

Don't count out demuslim. He has to face two Koreans, but at least they are better matchups for him. He looked solid vs Oz when he had no high level practice partners in TvP. He at least gets to play against Polt, Byun, and Stephano on the NA ladder.
|
I'd say Demuslim has a more than decent shot at taking out the koreans he'll have to face in his bracket
|
its a shame that only 512 ppl got the chance to try their luck.
