That means Stephano is worlds ahead of the koreans. Don't even try to argue on this because it's just basic mathematics. you took that a little too far Didn't Stephano beat MMA to qualify, or was that MKP? It WAS MMA, and it was a 2-0. Even if MMA beat Lucky, Stephano has shown he's capable of beating him as well.

why cant ppl just enjoy what just happened. Actually, people were saying Idra and Puma fixed their match. And no one is mentioning Idra atm, apart from you.

The moment you say that you are taking away from his win. He didn't have an easy bracket, people try to find ways to discredit a player if they were not their favorite to win it.

I agree entirely. I feel like in this tournament there are some very extreme views on both ends. I'm not trying to discredit Stephano but I think it's partically due to the fact he was far more unknown than IdrA. Not saying anything about his skill but before this tournament if you grouped Stephano into "best foreign zerg" you would probably be laughed it. With this (fairly unexpected) win there are going to be some pretty big reactions on both sides.

Stephano, who is 18 years old, who started playing this game full-time less than a month ago, just won 30,000 $ by beating several Korean players - and there are people who try to discredit his win? Seriously? What is wrong with you? No ones discrediting anyone, they're just arguing with idiots who are saying Stephano > Mvp or whatever the fuck they're saying right now. How many people were actually saying this? I see many more people who whine about how easy Stephano's path was! Imagine the hype around Idra if he would have won this IPL! Then shut up. Stephano deserves some hype and he deserves his fanboys because this was an outstanding achievement, especially because doesn't train in korea.
Idra still played amazing when you think about the amount of sleep he got and think about this $9,500 USD in 1 week!

There will always be haters after an event no matter who, what, when, where, why. Everyone just needs to take it for what it is and that's that stephano is a very skilled player who can compete with some of the best at the highest levels of play. And for the love of god can we just not compare anyone to nestea and MVP, they are literally leagues ahead of every SC2 player in existence and it's just not fair to compare them to anyone, just count the number of GSL victories between them.

The overall atmosphere on Korean forums is rather positive, since it's always exciting to see the new foe (nation-wise). Grats Stephano, I hope you keep up this pace until you retire. Too bad he has announced that he won't be progaming for more than a year

Hopefully he takes Code S when he goes to Korea to seal off his career.

The players he beat weren't exactly top-tier. He beat a few of them in the online qualifiers but that doesn't mean much especially against a T or P where micro matters so much (I personally watched mkp lose to stephano because of his lack of marine splitting timing, most likely due to lag).
He's good, but don't be so damn quick to jump on the bandwagon. He won a single offline tourney by beating, frankly, mediocre players (as far as KR standards) Hmmm, the people he beat were pretty top tier. I'm not saying he IS nestea or some code S champion. But please name a foreigner who is better than him, I would like to know who it is. I know your not dissing him, but your comment is downplaying him a bit much tbh. He is a great player with fantastic potential. Also I saw him play some bad games this tournament, he has among he best zvt AND zvp in the foreigner scene and great zvz comparable to dimaga if not better. I can count the amount of zergs in the world that are as good in any matchup as he is in all three on my hands. Speaking of nestea and losira (well I wasn't but w/e) stephano might have better zvt then them (but that is not proven by anything except that zvt is the IM zergs' worst MU). They were not top-tier Koreans at all. You're right. This tourmanet had 0 top tier koreans Violet is not a top Korean, not even a Code A level Zerg. Lucky is a stylistic zerg whose style directly counters the Slayers terrans' fast hellion expands. He is also terrible at ZvZ. And Inori had Stephano dead to rights in game 2 of their series, but completely fell apart. Wat? Maybe it's your phrasing but Kiwi won game two and lost convincingly in the other two games. I don't know what you're trying to say.
INORI, NOT KIWIKAKI
Kiwikaki lost because he did the same build three times, a build that is not particularly solid either.

Yeah, it's really sad, imo.
No, Stephano did not beat - head-to-head - the Korean players who were considered the best coming into the tournament - that would be MMA, MC, Ryung, and Puma - but he beat all the players who beat them.
And by beating them, those players showed that they were themselves top-level players. So why take away from Stephano?

Can you elaborate? I'm really curious to see what the Korean netizens think about IPL3.

Ow wow, would people just stop with this easy bracket bs. On this particular weekend Stephano was the BEST, period! What happened in the past and why some high profile players screwed up their run in IPL is not Stephanos fault. In the end the 2 BEST players in this particular weekend are in the finals and Stephano won it all.
|
Jesus, obviously Stephano is good, there isn't a question about that. But winning one major tournament doesn't make you the best player in the world or even best foreigner, especially when the game is as young as it is now. The people touting Stephano as the best player in the world or best foreigner are just as bad as the ones trying to discredit him. He's a really good player and past that we'll have to see what he accomplishes from here on out, but he is putting up pretty amazing results considering he just switched to playing full time a few months ago.

why can't we just sit back and be glad a foreigner won? this was one tourney. there will be other ones. players evolve over time. for today stephano is better than everyone else that was at IPL3. tomorrow may be different.
