MLG Raleigh Day 1 RED Live Report Thread - Page 389
Forum Index > StarCraft 2 Tournaments |
Obligatory public note for all large tournament threads: The following is a list of behaviors that will get immediate bans: 1. Whining about stream 2. Bashing other games 3. Flaming other users 4. Bashing players 5. Complaining about imbalance. It is in no way complete. Keep in mind that there's a difference between pointing out that the SC2 and CoD streams were switched and whining about it (same thing on pointing out/asking about stream lag and whining about it, etc.). Also, just because you post something and aren't immediately banned for it doesn't mean you won't get caught. We'll be going through this thread very carefully. That being said, enjoy today's games! Time stamp: page 38, 6:23.

Also they need both players to know not to start the game before the observers can join. The schedule is too unpredictable so they can't know if a series they cut to will ruin the schedule they already planned which is No1 priority. I'd be pissed if they cut to a TvT that lasted 50 minutes and I missed a match I stayed up all night to watch. The players need to be in seats that can't see the main screen and they need to triple check they can't hear the casters. It sucks but it is kind of unavoidable.

Isn't it equivalent to cheering on the soccer team from your city (like Leeds people cheering for the Leeds soccer team) or people from Green Bay cheering on the Green Bay Packers in the NFL? The Detroit Lions lost 0-13 this last season in the NFL, and no one looked at the stadium full of fans from Detroit and said "Hey you xenophobic jackasses, cheer for the New England Patriots! They're the better team, they deserve your cheers!" I would say that yeah ;o. I am against cheering for your local team just because it is a local team. It is illogical. Two team players could trade spots and suddenly the same players would be cheered against? Thats stupid. The only reasonable method of deciding who to cheer for is on an individual level. With the koreans, they have the better games because they are harder workers, and have the better skills. I am fine with cheering for Huk for example because he is a foreigner AND a code S level player when playing his best. Cheering for haypro over someone like bomber just makes my brain explode however.

The exception to the game-racial bias would be players that I feel drawn to as a person, the really charismatic individuals that you can't help but root for - i.e. for me personally: White Ra, BoxeR, MC, TLO etc. Note that there are BOTH KOREANS AND NON-KOREANS IN THAT LIST. Stop being racist and get your priorities straight. Good games > pitiful notions of such an idea as 'nationality'. Are invisible lines that were drawn on a globe generations before you were born by people you never knew actually important to you? Am I supposed to support people from NA because I happened to be born here by circumstance beyond my control, rather than the players that I enjoy watching because they play better and have exciting styles? I have no idea how people can possibly say korean domination makes the tournament boring when the koreans play so awesome (which is obviously WHY they're dominating) and are therefore more enjoyable to watch.

The truth is most people want to watch the best games with the best strategies used and koreans are good because they practice a lot, if you have a problem with this then donate to your favourite foreign team so they can setup a proper team house with good coaching, the fact is koreans are more entertaining to watch.. Without koreans the competition is much lower level and less exciting, why would anyone watch MLG knowing that korean code A players are better than the players participating in MLG? Koreans are essential for the people watching who are interested in high level play.. I guess some people like you don't mind watching mediocre games with average players as long as a foreigner wins? sad. I'm counting out huk/idra/naniwa because none of them are doing that well in this tournament (at the moment) I actually view Sheth as a much more viable contender than any of those three at this stage. But what I'm basically doubting or not seeing the purpose of is a western pro scene for SC2 when none of the players are close enough in level to consistently take games off koreans, let alone win sets or tournaments. Why should I be spending time on lesser western players and western tournaments when I can just watch the GSL and do something else with my time. I'm thinking that if westerners don't improve drastically - and soon - the western pro scene might simply implode.

Rooting based on nationality or location is completely valid because you have commonalities with those people. I'd always cheer over a foreigner over a korean in most cases because of that.

I root for Tyler because he's an awesome guy who's part of one of my favorite SC2 shows. I don't root for DRG because although he's an awesome player, one interview just isn't enough to make me care. Obviously I'm going to like foreigners more. Hope that clears it up for the people who just don't understand why people would root for foreigners. Well you should start rooting for players who actually good, otherwise tournaments like this won't be enjoyable for you.. its the same with people who root for destiny in which they always end up crying, the reason is because hes not top tier not because the competition is too good. The high level is there, the standard has been set.. Its up to the rest of the players to play at that level.. everybody wants to see the best play against the best.

Wait that's actually not true at all. It's not hard to understand. People want their "home town" teams etc. to do well. In this case foreigners are seen as that. It's not because of racism or some other retarded oversimplification. This kind of logic is rampant in this thread, and it's beyond ridiculous. Swedes are not "home town" players for Americans (neither are Huk, Kiwikaki, or Select for that matter). This line of reasoning just doesn't apply to this discussion.
