You should just drop that build, double gas and factory before expand for a mine drop vs zerg just isn't worth it. Go for a normal 1 reaper expand, and you can do everything else you do except you'll have a better economy behind it. You also miss way too many workers and your multitasking is often to your detriment. Either make it an effort to sped up and look at your army and production better or try to do less things at the same time.

5 Barracks is generally the accepted amount of production with factory and starport for 2/3 base high aggression, but scale it up as soon as you find yourself floating 500+ minerals for minutes at a time. If you're going tank and bio ling and baneling, send your marines back and target fire the banelings with the tanks.

First off, thank you for watching the replay (s) and giving me a straight answer. Ok, so widowmine drop isn't good anymore? Taking that as fact, I will do some research on the 1 reaper expand build.

Thanks for the macro tip as well, I will work on it.

Mine drop from 1 base is a build in tvp and tvt but has only been popular in tvz as a 2 base build.

Widowmine drop is fine, any sort of harassment that you can think can be viable, but there's no reason to sacrifice economy so heavily for it. Go Barracks->Gas->Reaper->2nd Command Center->2nd Depot and you can still afford to go widow mine drop. Get the 2nd gas before or after the Factory and you can follow up with tanks and/or liberators or however you want to play it out.

yeah, i don't think there's any decent tvz build that hits off of 1 base other than a 3rax. anything else is just relying on your opponent doing zero scouting and playing greedy. the only times i can remember losing in zvt to a 1 base 1/1/1 type build it was because i was extremely lazy with scouting (not checking CC timing, not having a spotter watching for moveouts, etc.)

Is taking an equally fast third the correct response?

I do suck in this game, and hopefully somebody would be able to share any experiences in dealing with this particular build.

Thanks,

you had the right idea by pushing with the medivac. however, you stopped marine production in favor of marauder and stim. I think this is your mistake.

this would have been better:

raxx
gas
reaper
cc
reactor
factory
gas
marines x2
marines x2
swap factory to reactor
starport
hellions x2
marine x1
armory
hellions x2
marine x1
medivac
hellions x2 (continuous)

keep marines at home until medivac is ready. poke with hellions, but don't commit unless you see a window.
put 6 marines in the medivac and boost to his third. drive the hellions to his third and transform them. then attack. this push is way stronger with 6 marines instead of 2 marauders. even stronger if you skip the reaper and go straight into marine/reactor. this way you have 8 marines for the push.

another version of the hellbat push. I think this is better choice if you open reaper:

reaper
reaper
fact/reactor
armory
hellion x2

hit the third with 2 reapers, 2 hellbats (no medivac). then follow up with continuous hellion/medivac production. keep hitting him with waves of 2 or 4 hellbats and pick up / drop his mineral line if he has lots of defense. GuMiho did this build vs soulkey on Frozen Temple (dingit invitational). follow up with liberators into mech/sky terran.

also, the 2nd raxx is unecessary. if you're going bio, you can probably opt for 3rd cc / engineering bays, or tanks if you sense an allin. or, you can build a reactor on the raxx, swap it to your starport, and go hellion x2 / medivac x2 or liberator x2 into mech.

Which match up are we speaking about?
in LotV mech isn't very strong/viable but I've had various success with hellbat/liberator in TvZ and various success with medivac/hellbat/tank/viking in TvT.

Unless you are trying to be a professional player that competes against the best of other regions, mech is viable up to grandmaster level, and starts to decrease in competency past the mid gm point

tvp - widow mine, hellbat, tank, lib

tvt - hellbat/tank/vik/lib/raven

tvz - ghost lib cyclone hellion

Cyclones are interesting in tvp. They are decent units and decent anti-air units as well. But they get countered by immortals, overwhelming gateway units, templar, archons, carriers, and pheonixes (half of the units protoss can make basically). They get countered a lot harder then they counter the units they are good against, so if you were to build cyclones, it would be early on for defense before those types of units come out from the protoss, or at the very end of the game, when all you need to do is defeat a tempest heavy army and your opponent doesn't have any economy left to remake enough units to counter your cyclone army.

in near future, I will be doing a mech stream from bronze - masters and potentially masters - gm if I have the time for it this month so you can see what I am talking about in action

I for one would love to see a mech stream. Mech has always been my go to style of choice and I'd love to see how it's implemented in LotV.

Didn't expect to see hellbats being recommended in both TvP and TvT, though I have had success with using mines in both match ups. (With conjunction with tanks!)

Are the liberators in TvP used to zone the disruptors? Disruptors have probably been the biggest hurdle for me in TvP mech, as I find they're effective against tanks and mines. That said, I haven't done much mech in TvP so I really need to experiment more.

I think the focus should be a high enough tankivac count to zone out disruptors. I will be testing that out for sure though

I usually make only 4-6tanks unless i scout a really heavy stalker composition and then go into cyclone / widow mine - hellbat - liberator and adding viking raven when he goes tempest. Widow mines I use for quick remaxes late game, but I feel like after they get templars or collosus or disrupter they are not really a good choice anymore.

Edit: would love to see that stream.

I know this has been asked for so often now, but still, i dont know how exactly i should react to Ultralisk switch, out of LBM.

Here is a game i won, but i think i only won because he overmade corruptors, so i think i should have lost this game. Pls how exactly do i deal with ultra? Where do i fight? When do i fight and HOW? Which composition is good? Should i switch to mech at some point? Are Thor viable or the only option? Or do i need to get Cyclones? Could that work? I dont think speedbanshee works. How do i win vs Ultra on the open field? I think it is impossible. So pushing out is very difficult for me. Any guides on how Terran deals best with Ultra out yet? I rly could need some indepth help^^ tyvm all

Hello all! I'm returning to Starcraft 2 after a multi-year hiatus. During the 2013 Season 2, I was 1v1 ranked Silver, and had about 180 total games under my belt up to that point.

I used Filter's 'Bronze to Masters' timing and macro builds, but I'm curious as if they're still relevant? I know LotV introduced a new major unit for Terran's bio builds and the mineral/gas timings have changed. It's hard to find a set of metrics to meet in the current LotV meta in regards to production or basic build orders for Terran.

Any tips for a newbie? I've looked around this sub-forum and other sites, but there doesn't seem to be any 'refresher' courses out there for people making the pilgrimage back to the game. Thanks!

just mass ghosts. the LBM army will give you enough defensive capabilities to effectively build up a high enough ghost count. Then when ghost are out they will shred any ultralisks and any other high tech units the zerg has

Hi KamiDaHobo,
if you were a silver league player the game has not changed too much I guess. You still need to work on how to produce workers and units in silver league and spend your money.
However, the 10 Minute Timing of FilterSC does not apply anymore or let's say that it has to be translated to the LotV context and needs some adjustment. Since you start with more workers the game the phases are a little bit different in terms of their timespan which would require you to attack a lot faster.

If you are looking for some abstract guidelines to follow you might want to check this out:
- http://csnstarcraft.com/home/splash

A note here especially for the staircase:
I would recommend you to NOT follow everything blindly. Be aware that there are a lot of ways to play the game and the staircase is (from my pov) designed to introduce you to the game in a way that does not overtax you while learning the basic mechanical play. Be aware that it creates some exercises for you to do, but does NOT provide a build order or a general rule that will lead you to the masters league. However, if you like to learn this might be a good start.

How do you defeat the quick 3 ravager ruch on Ulrena in TvZ?

I open 1-1-1 with marine/tank/banshee while building the CC in my main.

The rush hits before I can get the tank out and much before I can get the banshee out.

build a bunker on the low ground and high ground, or 2 bunkers on the high ground if you don't have enough time to build one on the low ground. That will buy you enough time for your tank to get out. Then make a medivac and do a marine tank counter attack after you hold the push and you should deal a lot of damage or straight out win with that

zoning the warp prism with vikings + bio units. Just need to have good reaction to splitting your scvs against the disruptors and to have all of your army units split so the disruptor shot only can kill a couple units tops at a time

However, if you like to learn this might be a good start.

This is a fantastic post and exactly what I was needing to know. Thank you so much!

just mass ghosts. the LBM army will give you enough defensive capabilities to effectively build up a high enough ghost count. Then when ghost are out they will shred any ultralisks and any other high tech units the zerg has

and how do i engage? Fungal or fast lings will interrupt the snipe, or bile will do that or the mutalisks...

also:
how do i defend proxy ravager? Zerg contains me hard and expands 3 base behind into GG

and also:
how do i defend proxy robo?
