Hi fellow tosses
I have recently started playing again, I'm currently in Diamond but I'm my play level is most likely on platinum level. I never really have a plan, or a build when I start a game. So my question is;
If you could have one build, for every matchup, which one would it be? I would like to know a solid opening for each matchup, which I could work on so I would have a good ground to start from.
Any ideas? Thanks

Pick your favourite out of these:
PvP - http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=296637, http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=249772 I think the first one is a bit easier to pull off than the second one, but both are pretty challenging builds. Alternatively, just open 3gate robo into 1base colossus. You risk more "build order losses" but overall it's a decent build in lower leagues. edit: i forgot you can also try http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=284319
PvZ - http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=253932 if you like to sentry expand http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=287970 is pretty standard up to the 4gate +1 pressure, then go into either what the guide suggests or colossus. Your choice really. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=300535 for something a bit different.
PvT - Good openings are http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=294136, http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=223726 for 1gate fe, http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=202262 for 3gate expand, http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=204010 for fast obs. In platinum and diamond i think fast obs is the best option. For the midgame either http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=196385 (a bit outdated but mostly fine) or http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=292549, which is my personal favourite midgame pvt build.
It's amazing how easy it is to find those threads just looking at the "SC2 Strategy Recommended Threads" sticky on top of the page.

PVP --- enemy makes no gas and 2 early gates and send 4 zealots over. By now, I have a 2 gates, a core, and one sentry finished. He came, I blocked him, he came in, I died.
WTF??? What do I do in this situation? I had 2 gasses ebcause I was planning on teching.... wasn't the problem though. Problem was he was doing nothing but pumping out zealots while I was playing a standard opening. By the time I scouted him, Id idn't know what to do so I dropped a forge and planned to drop a few cannons down, but I couldn't figure out what to do in time. Tips?

Replay would be nice. I guess if you chrono more than one sentry you are fine, and you shoulnd't drop your second gas too too fast in case he is doing a hardcore 4gate for example. Here's a replay of a recent game of me in a custom vs a completely random 2gate opening, i just chronoed out stalkers and kited him because it makes sense, and it worked, my 4gate followup killed him. http://drop.sc/95734

Depends on what type of 2-Gate. If he is going something silly like 10/10 Gate in his own base just treat is as a hilariously bad proxygate. But since you already had so much finished, I suppose it was rather 12/16, like the Adelscott opening. Just chrono out Stalker, kite him back a bit, and wall off your ramp like you do vs Zerg, so that only 1 Zealot can ever fight. Don't forget to get your Stalker back inside though.

Finally have made it to diamond in 1v1s and ive been facing a lot more terran cheese. My question is how do you deal with terran 1/1/1 pushes. I usually go for a 2gate robo expand build but its never enough if the terran is any good. The hardest pushes to stop I've noticed are siege tanks (2-3), a lot of stimmed marines, raven, and maybe a few medivacs. It hits before your expansion can kick in.
|
There is a good thread regarding the 1/1/1 here:
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=250379¤tpage=23
From what I've gathered 2 gate robo to expand may be too late. I believe the consensus is a 1 gate expand to 5-6 gates/robo and an army comprised mainly of Zealots, Sentries, Immortals (and a few Stalkers + obs for Banshee defense) with a probe cut around ~40. There is quite a bit of info on that thread though on the 1/1/1 and how to deal with it.

I dont see what opening your doing if you have 1 sentry after 2 gates, that just seems bad. just chrono out your own zealots as soon as you scout it and look at a decent pvp opening.

Here is a good BO for +1 zealot, no voids to attack the 3rd: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=287970
This contains KCDC's version of the +1 zealot/void timing to hit the 3rd: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=300535
I don't know of a zealot/void no ups build. I'm assuming you can tweak KCDC's build to achieve that.

Thanks! Yes, I know. I did read them. Just wanted to know other peoples choices, if they would have to choose one. Thanks for the links though

My personal choices out of those are robo/blink pvp, double forge pvt, 2gate exp with fast blink/ups into colossus (if i confirm hydra or infestor) pvz. All of those builds are really viable though

Anyone has a pvt build incorporating Stargate play? :x

I think that was the game against Select? On Crevasse, IIRC?

oh my goodness...i have no idea why i lost this game at all...i feel that my army was good upgrade was good and i was a base ahead of him...the only reason i think why i lost is because of the number of colosuss i had compared to his...and the 2nd engagement at the bottom where i did not look..suffered a few shots from the collosus first...other than that...
kind souls in TL please take a look and give me some advice..

You're upgrades were good. But you started falling apart after those DTs killed so much. Halted your colossi production, but you were still in an OK spot. The part that really sealed the deal is when you lost those two colossi near your nat cuz your army was out of position, and then you focus fired the colossi with your stalkers but after they got out of range your stalkers all died to the chargelots. He had chargelots. Your colossi died. Blink stalkers and immortals aren't so good against chargelots.

I was trying to use shift + a-click to focus fire broodlord with stalkers, yet it doesn't seem to work? Soon enough the stalkers start shooting at other stuff again -- does anyone know why?
I guess it may have something to do with the fact that the first broodlord must not die before the shift command is issued -- is it true?
What is the best way to kill large amount of broodlord with stalkers then? Do I just blink in, focus fire a broodlord, move command a step, then focus fire another? I'm thinking since I have a lot of stalkers, if I can use shift-focus fire and split stalkers into two groups, it will be much more efficient. (The two groups coming from two sides will thin out the broodlings as well, making it easier for the stalkers to move)

Hey guys, I am having trouble in PvZ. I always just seem to get run over. Here are some replays
v. Roach In this game I managed to kill his third base twice and he just went mass roach and then added investors and whittled my army down. My upgrades were late this game, so I know that factored into it. Do I just need storm/colossus? I think it is difficult to harass and macro at the same time vs Zerg.
Muta This game was the vs muta/ling where he just contained me on 3 bases. I had good upgrades this game, but the constant muta harass and lings kept my supply low. After a few attacks he expands all over and I just can't keep up with him. Even though I managed to kill his army and weaken his muta's a few times, I feel like if I leave and go attack him he will just throw down a bunch of spines and keep sending counters against me and I can't win the base race. Other than having better micro in the engagements, what else can I do in this kind of situation?

You probably missclicked and attack-moved on the ground right next to the broodlods rather than targeting a brood directly. Happens to me all the time, you just need to be careful and precise with your mouse.
