Important notes
+ Show Spoiler [Introduction] +Introduction: Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia. The game is typically very active, so the thread may grow large quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play. This game will include flavor that is added for fun and effect, but has no impact on game mechanics. The standard rule set for newbie games will be used and follows below.
+ Show Spoiler [Ruleset] +Rules: Cheating:Cheating includes (but is not limited to): 1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information. 2. Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town. 3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role. 4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles. 5. Posting screenshots of your inbox. 6. Posting any PM you receive from a host. 7. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip. 8. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts. 9. Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits. 10. Sharing accounts with other players. Only you may post on your account. 11. Posting the link to any QT's you have. 12. Night actions must be communicated in the respective OP or sent by PM to me and my cohosts. If you feel that any action you are considering may be against the spirit of the game, it is best to contact a host and ensure it is allowed before proceeding.Posting: Host Color:The color blue is reserved for the hosts of the game to make our posts easy to notice. Please do not use it.Question Color:The color green is reserved for questions by players for the hosts. Use it to ask the game hosts questions about the rules. Please do us a favor and read the rules before you ask anything.Smurfs:Smurfs must PM the host because TL doesn't allow multiple accounts otherwise. If the host is unaware of smurfs, you (and/or your smurf) can be banned for having multiple accounts Spam:Spam is not tolerated, nor is any off-topic material. Do not discuss Proleague here. Do not talk about Starcraft II here. Play Mafia here. Editing: Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing will result in a warning. After that, you will be modkilled. This is the one part of the site where it is okay to be double posting, even triple-posting. "Editing" includes indirect editing like linking an image, then editing the image. Editing your profile or signature are allowed, but if you edit them for any game-related reasons (ie, breadcrumbing, sending messages, etc) this will be considered out-of-thread posting and will be punished. Inappropriate posts and use of the report post link:If you want to post something insulting or inappropriate and know the TL mods would have a problem with it elsewhere, don't post it here. If you do, a host will warn you or modkill you and request that you be banned from future games. The hosts have the final say on what is inappropriate. If you do not like how someone is talking to you, please PM a host, Flamewheel, or Mig before involving the TL moderation staff or using the report post link. If you are unsatisfied with how the situation is resolved, then you can appeal to the TL staff normally. Ban discussions:Please wait until this game is over to talk about modkills and bans resulting from this game. Play to win. This means you play your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game. However, this does not mean that you should try to win by being a jerk to the other players so they all want to quit playing. This also means that you cannot leave the game without a good reason without a ban. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. PM your host if you need to leave the game. Out of thread communication: It is common for mafia to use a medium outside of TL such as QuickTopics or IRC to communicate during the game. Players who have not explicitly been given permission to communicate outside the thread are not allowed to attempt to infiltrate such communication channels. Players who are not mafia are not allowed to communicate about this game outside of the thread. Voting rules: 1. Voting is done by posting in the voting thread. 2. Please vote in the following format: ##vote: beentheredonethat. Votes must be in bold, and votes not written in the correct fashion will not be counted. I will tolerate missspelled names but don't be lazy. 3. No conditional voting. 4. You may vote only for other living players in the thread. You may not vote for yourself.5. This game uses plurality voting, so whoever has the most votes at the end of the day is lynched. There is no minimum number of votes required to lynch someone. 6. The person who is up for the lynch is whoever has the most votes. If there is a tie for most votes, whoever most recently had more votes than the other is the person who is up for the lynch. 7. Voting is mandatory. You may NOT abstain.Modkills:This game follows the TL Mafia Ban List. If you are modkilled, your punishment will go beyond being eliminated from this game. Please refer to it for questions about your punishment. You can use this game to /sitout a ban. ReplacementsThis game uses replacements. I will try to find replacements until the end of day 2. CluesThere are no clues. PMsPMs and out of thread communication are not allowed in this game, unless your role explicitly allows them. ActivityYou are expected to keep up with the thread and participate in discussion daily. If for some reason you anticipate that you will not be available for a period longer than 24 hours, please notify a host ahead of time. If the host deems a player is inactive, they may be warned or removed from the game. A minimum of 5 posts is required per day phase.Time CycleThis game will follow a 48 hour day/24 hour night cycle. Any votes after the deadline will not count and the game will be put on hold until the night post is up. The deadline for each cycle will be 21:00 GMT (+00:00) . See setup post for more information on that. Specifics* Mafia KP is factional * No notifications are sent for roleblocks/frames/medic actions/jailer actions/whatever Please make sure you have read the rules and understand them.
Signups Everyone is eligible to play who is not currently banned. However I may decline /ins without any reasons.
Signup for the game by posting /in in the thread. It may take several weeks for the game to fill up so you are responsible for being aware when the game begins. I will send PMs asking to confirm (/confirm) when the game is filled.

Setup
The game features a semi-open setups, meaning that while all possible roles are known to the players, the exact role distribution is not.
Possible setups: 1. Jailkeeper / Cop 2. Medic / Parity Cop 3. Veteran / Cop 4. Vigilante (1-shot) / Cop
In all setups, mafia will have a Roleblocker and a Goon. The third mafia role will either be a Framer or a Godfather (randomized).
Role Fluff (Kudos to everyone who gets all character references right)
Peter Edgecomb, ParadiseCruises Security Department (Jailkeeper) PCS Officer Peter Edgecomb is quite the experienced security person. Having served the major part of his life on various ships (private and military sector alike), he has learnt multiple techniques to ensure a safe environment aboard pretty much every ship he boards.
Jake, an old friend of him, just recently approached him with a job offer from the company he worked for. ParadiseCruises, a company known for the biggest cruise ships around the globe, was looking for a Chief of Security Affairs officer on their newest ship, the HMS Utopia. Working on a cruise ship was a first-timer for Peter but he felt confident enough to accept the job.
Peter Edgecomb can lock up any person of his choice at night to enforce Security guidelines on the HMS Utopia. This character is protected from potential KPs and cannot execute any night actions on his own.
Jane Oak, old English Lady (Cop/Parity Cop) Jane is quite the old English lady. She loves tea and scones and is really into reading crime novels. She's a passionate equestrian, well versed at fencing, and she boarded this ship to fulfill her uncle's last will. Sir Thomas Oak, Admiral of Her Majesty's Royal Fleet, never wanted to buried in cold, muddy dirt. He wanted his body to be burnt and his ashes spread all over the ocean.
Miss Oak has (in complete disregard of her rather old age) preserved her joyful spirit and her rapid understanding of things. As she is a naturally curious person, she's very interested in finding out what other people do.
Each night, miss Oak can check someone's cabin to find out whether this person is a good one ("fine lad") or a bad one ("bloody bastard").
Note: Cop checks will return "town" or "mafia" (player alignment). Parity cop checks will return "null" (night 1), "yes" (same alignment) "no" (opposite alignment).
Cop and Parity Cop share the same fluff role.
Captain John Francis Xavier McIntyre, Retired Army Surgeon (Medic) Captain McIntyre has served in the US Army during the Korea War as part of the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital. When the war had finally ended, he was sent back the States with nothing but his medical experience. Suffering from sever PTSD, he fought his way back into normality. Due to sheer luck his life changed: he won a huge pot of money in the lottery. At this point, he started spending money wherever he could and so he also bought a ticket to the HMS Utopia. However, the paranoia resulting from his PTSD makes him check for the well-being of others on a regular basis.
Each night, Captain McIntyre can visit a cabin and prevent a death (1 KP).
Clark Gregg, intelligence agent (Veteran) Clark Gregg, working for the (very very secret) AEGIS agency, has boarded the HMS Utopia for very easy reasons: intelligence has information that something is going to happen on that ship. As there is nothing too concrete yet, he is on the ship to prevent whatever is going to happen.
Due to his combat experience, he will survive one attack that is aimed at him.
Scott Kyle, American Sniper (Vigilante (1-shot)) Scott Kyle was a United States Navy SEAL veteran and sniper. Kyle served four tours in the Iraq War and was awarded several commendations for acts of heroism and meritorious service in combat. He was awarded one Silver Star Medal, four Bronze Star Medals with "V" devices, a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and numerous other unit and personal awards.
However, he's now on holidays, hoping to have a good time on the Utopia. You better don't disturb him, as you'll easily find yourself shot by his sniper rifle. He can do so once in the game.
Jacob Grima (Framer) Jacob is a sadist. He loves torturing and killing people and that's exactly why he boarded the cruise ship. All he wants to do is have a nice vacation with some twists added to it that feed his very personal and special hunger. It's not the first time that he's doing such a vacation, and he has learnt that prosecutors can very easily led in the wrong places - if you only put in enough effort.
Jacob will make you look like a serial killer - or like the most peaceful person on the planet.
Jimmie Handsome, musician (Roleblocker) Jimmie lives up to his name. He's an artist! Playing guitar, piano, singing with a dark timbre, whatever it is, you name it, he does it. He's great at persuading people to not to whatever they were originally up to, a master of distraction. That does not change the fact that he'd easily kill you - because he's a perverted murderer. He will do whatever it takes to satisfy his lust for blood.
So yeah - he'll make you smiley and open your mind - one way or the other. Each night, Jimmie can roleblock someone.
Lisa Ferell, 12-year-old-girl (Godfather) She's a twisted psychopath. But noone knows! Who would suspect a cute little girl to be capable of straight up murdering people? Not even miss Oak would, right? That's exactly what Lisa wants. Her parents left her when she was 2 or 3 years old and the people she grew up at were nothing less than criminals. She never had the opportunity to grow into what others call a normal life so she turned evil. And that's why she's on the ship: do evil things - and kill people.
Your alignment to cops will be "town".
Michael Armstrong, guy (Goon) "Yarp."
You're a bad person.

"Isn't that beautiful?" John Miller turned to his wife, a broad smile on his face. "Look at this beauty. This is what we are going to board soon, and the world is waiting for us! Half a year in paradise, what more can a man hope for?" Jillian Miller didn't reply. Instead, she turned her face towards John and kissed him. She bit his lip as he opened his mouth, gazing at him seductively. "This night, I'll show you how thankful I am, Johnny."
She took a step back from her husband, took his hand and led him off the landing stage. They'd have one more night at the hotel and she'd be damned if she wouldn't spend this night naked, breathing heavily, being subject to the well-versed hands of the love of her life.
While the Millers went away, Harvey Connor, an author, looked at the cruise ship in awe. When his first book came out, it had been a blast. He didn't imagine it to be such a success. However, his readers quickly demanded a sequel, and so he tried to oblige. But he was stuck. The worst case had happened to him - writer's block. So he had decided to leave the grey suburbs of Sidney where he lived in and had spontanously booked a ticket to this cruise ship.
He'd be able to relax, and if it wouldn't help with his writer's block, it would at least be a good time. Finally he looked away from the ship, and he saw a lonely woman standing only a few meters away from him. He approached her. "Hey, I assume you're also taking this ship, m'Lady?" Surprised she turned around to him, answering: "Oh, hello there, gent. Yes, I will board this evening. I'm part of the crew." "A bluejacket! That's a surprise. But first, let me introduce myself." He did so politely, and she told him her name: Jackie Livingston. She was an assistance in the ship's galley, a young girl willing to see the world. She had read his book, and her eyes shined brightly as she realized that her favourite author was standing right in front of her. They quickly engaged in a excited discussion about his books and how the main charakter, a girl chasing her dreams, had died when she had faced the harsh reality of life. "I think she could've survived if only someone decided to help her!" Her tone was a bit reproachful. "But that wouldn't have been a good story then, right? The girl had her time in paradise. She had good times full of cheer and joy, she had exstatic sex, enhanced by some drugs, and she fell in love over and over again. I think she burnt out her life, living it in so fast that it was conmpressed in the two years that I had the pleasure to go along with her for. But that's how it is with burning - it's bright and beautiful, but in the end - you die." "Awww, c'mon, don't be like that, Harvey. You're the author! You have all the strings in your hand and you could've let her survive." He smiled and shook his head. "If she had survived, noone would've read the book. It's the tragedies that make people emotionally invested. Remember the Titanic? It was a cruise ship, just like this one. The Unsinkable, that's how they called her. But she sank. And I'm pretty sure that James Cameron wouldn't be so rich today if Leo had survived."
They continued the playful discussion a bit more and enjoyed it a lot, but at some point, Jackie had to go. "Remember, you might be on the ship to have a good time, but I'm there to work. I have to prepare tomorrow's breakfast already, and the lead chef will be angry if I come late on my first day. I won't have much spare time but I'd love to spend that time with you, Harvey." He nodded. "Would be a pleasure, m'lady."

All role combinations are possible. Each power role will be featured only once in the game.

I added you to the player list. However, keep in mind that a minimum of five posts per day/night phase is required. If you cannot handle that, you should /out .

Net may be under some repair in the future. No problem! I'm not finding the time to add the fluff anyways, and the game is filling really slowly.
|
Thanks for joining, everyone!
Gotta find the time somehow to build the fluff.
|
I am still looking for 1-2 co-hosts ![](/mirror/smilies/smile.gif)
Fluff has been added. Role fluff to come.
|
Vivax is co-hosting, thanks a lot!
|
Thanks! I've replaced profile with filter. I don't think the profile is really necessary so I won't clutter the thread. ![](/mirror/smilies/smile.gif)
Please note that I have changed the activity requirement. It is no longer required to have five posts per night and per day. The activity requirement is now limited to day phases. It is mandatory to post at least five times per day phase.
If for some reasons five posts are not possible to make but you do not want to be replaced, please PM a host. We will be lenient if there is good reasoning.

She signed up due to me insisting to sign up . While she's a completely new player, I will answer all of her questions as good as I can. I know her personally in real life. I hope that's not a problem for anyone in here. This is no newbie game and I won't be a real coach to her, it'll be more about explaining mechanics. She knews the board game equivalent to Mafia quite well.
|
She's going to observe the newbie game instead. Some concerns were raised about a newbie in a stacked lineup .
|
|
There were more concerns raised and we had a good skype call with some people about it . She never played forum mafia before, only werewolf/real life mafia, and we're all fine with the solution we found .
Four more players to go!

I for one am okay with shadowing and I will provide a QT to you. However it is up to each player if he agrees with a shadow. Please PM Holyflare if he's okay with you shadowing .
Game is set to start on Monday, Oct 03 9:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00). I will sentout /confirmation PMs tomorrow to dodge weekend absence .
Role fluff will be added tomorrow. Hopefully.

No. Good catch, thank you. Once a power role has been rolled, it will not be rolled again. I have added the information to the OP.

So does this mean there could be two of the same town power roles? 10 vs 3 9 vs 3 ml 8 vs 3 nk 7 vs 3 ml 6 vs 3 nk 5 vs 3 ml 4 vs 3 nk into lylo I think that if a 3 men mafia team needs to win after a 5th ml when town didn't play their roles superb is not balanced. I am not sure if both vet getting shot and doc saving 1 person is superb play. Not bad play though. But 5 ml is insane!!! Such a long game as well. Town leaders being alive for a long time. Blueclaims... Not balanced imo. 2 veterans I could live with if rb cancels the vest. It was so last game you hosted so that is fine. 2 docs is imbalanced. 2 vigis I can live with. But pretty insane. 2 cops are maybe even more imbalanced than 2 docs. Random all roles is fun and stuff. But you want to keep your game balanced. Like cop + vigi puts so much pressure on the mafia team to look extremely good. Town gets a lynch, a copcheck and a vigi shot before Day 2. And on Day 2 could potentially claim 2 blue roles (they are unlynchable). That is information on 6 players by the start of D2 in a 13 player game, at least 2 of those are dead. And mafia wins on 3rd ml on 3rd day but still... Maybe introduce a miller? So mafia has an out when they get redchecked. Or a framer instead of gf. Or both. If you really 100% random and have potential double roles on all I think I will out. 2 any roles are always good enough for town with a chance to become batshit crazy. As said above, no double roles will be included. Any combination of roles is possible but no duplicate roles.
