Studied Computer Science in college and am now a Peace Corps Volunteer teaching maths and computers in St. Denis, Lesotho.
From last night but I'm currently waiting on the Peace Corps to finish putting my application through the medical office, which is taking a terribly long time. Hopefully I'll be volunteering early next year.

If I play Pokemon Black first, should I play Black 2 after, or could I just as well play White 2?

From what I've seen of Wing Chun it only seems applicable at very close range, standing up. But I'm no expert and I haven't studied Wing Chun in depth, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
In "real" fights, I believe it's just like sports in that the more athletic person will almost always have an advantage, and it's hard to offset that with skill and technique. Especially in fighting, where skill and technique have an extremely high learning curve. I've been practicing for 2 years and I still feel like an untrained person would be a major threat to me.

Wing Chun is really cool, it's the 2nd coolest martial art imo, right behind Taekwondo (because in Taekwondo you have shit like 720 jumping spinning hook kick LOL), but can't comment on its usefulness. I don't think martial arts are very useful in "real fights", apart from Parkour imo hue

except for the fact that any muai thai/kick/boxer etcetc will easily 1 hit ko any random idiot that gets into a fight with said guy

ye I mean Wing Chun is cool because you get like 10 punches a second in if you are really good which is kinda ridiculous but yeah why would you care about how effective it is in "real" fights anyway that's not what martial arts are for
|
Disregarding its actual use in a real fight what kind of people do martial arts to become better at real life fighting? I mean if I had to chose a martial art to practice how useful it would be in an actual fight would not even come into consideration.

Krav Maga or other actual martial art used in modern military, except those that rely on their weapons is my best guess
these martial arts get -50% coolness for being 100% efficient though. You really want to beat them in a style, Taekwondo or Capoeira or something like that.

The most effective martial arts are also the least flashy and most boring. Its why they're effective.

If I play Pokemon Black first, should I play Black 2 after, or could I just as well play White 2? When going from BW to BW2, the colour doesn't matter so much. One thing to note though is that if you choose the different colours for BW and BW2 you actually end up catching the same feature legendary. (This is because of story reasons but I won't spoil it for you.)

I do think of martial arts as any fighting style, so I would throw in Western boxing and wrestling in there. Whether it's for artful performance, actual combat, or sanctioned sport combat is a different story, but they're all valid reasons for practicing it, as long as you know what you're getting out of it.

Mordek that's amazing! If you need any advice or have any questions feel free to PM me at any time. I got a lot of helpful advice from a TLer early on in my wife's pregnancy and it honestly really helped and I'd love to pay it forward somehow.

Different martial arts were created for different purposes Judo/Jiujutsu for fighting armored dudes Karate for fighting normal dudes Capoeira for fighting white dudes while also looking like a dance Muay Thai for fighting dudes when you don't have time to fuck around Savate for fighting sea dudes while on a boat Eskrima for fighting dudes when you have a few sticks on hand Taekwondo for a cool national sport and then Krav Maga for just killing dudes left and right not giving a crap and just maiming everyone who comes into your range
none of those things are particularly useful but there you go, if you plan on doing any of these things you can pick the appropriate martial art

Just picking it up as something to fill time, and I've always had some interest in it. The centerline structure behind it seemed pretty interesting. Sifu (master) Jin is currently coaching Tony Ferguson (winner of Ultimate Fighter 13), which is pretty cool. So take that as you will in terms of Wing Chun and some of its practicality in stand up fighting.

In terms of ease to pick up, boxing and wrestling are super effective in teaching a nooby in self defense.

If you're sparring against someone who has no idea how aikido throws work, rather than following the wristlock into the throw, they'll just resist and break their wrist. Also, aikido is no joke, my friend tossed a dude twice her weight with an aikido throw. Was impressive.

ye, Aikido just breaks wrists and knees. One guy who does that apparently broke his sparring partner's wrist and it will take about a year and a half to heal, because wrist is just a mess full of shitty small bones.

tl;dr get a girlfriend before taking up aikido
