Elo is a terrible tool for measuring post value because Elo doesn't represent skill.
According to what I hear in soloq elo is a good proxy for penis length.

divide by 210 = number of inches

Directly or inversely proportional?

I'm only in penis hell because of trolls, my true length is 9 inches

You can claim we're "elitist," but at the end of the day a e.g. 1300 player doesn't have nearly enough worthwhile experience or knowledge to make the definitive claims that like to get thrown around.
The smart way is to preface statements with 'in my experience' or 'players at my level,' but people want to take what they see low caliber players do and repeat it as representative of players at higher tiers when that often is not the case.
Anyway, as to "but people will shut them down for staying stupid shit" - not really. There are lots of really stupid things said / claims made on a fairly regular basis that get ignored because nobody wants to take the time getting into the argument to prove them wrong or risk being marked an "elitist" because high Elo play doesn't match up with what the guy is saying.

Elo is a terrible tool for measuring post value because Elo doesn't represent skill. Except it does and does so quite well, despite its many flaws. It's shown time and time again that players will reach a similar Elo over the course of playing smurfs, new seasons, whatever. You can tank your Elo and climb right back up. You can play on someone's high Elo account and you'll drop right back down to your own Elo. No matter how much you hate the system, it is representative of ability.

just bought shyvanna. she's on sale.

I propose a new system where by the value of a posters opinion is voted on based on the result of a 1v1 against Smash.
Honestly though while I know we have high standards I feel most of the knowledge/opinions here are applicable up till gold rating. A plat players thoughts should always carry a pretty heavy weight though otherwise you end up with what happened in the Jarvan thread recently.
Also people who have hung around awhile will probably give a ton of weight to anything Smash/Navi/Cratonz/Yango/Neo/Spinesheath/LoCi/Locodoco/Yiruru/Teutonica/Numbers/5hit (This list is off the top of my head) lay down.

I'm fairly certain there was like a month-long discussion, before the TL admins settled on the best compromise they could think of.
Couldn't we hijack their solution (highlighted posts for "high-value" posters, assigned by mods, rather than displaying specific league/rating)? It seems silly to have to go through basically the same argument all over again with a different game.

I very agree with this change; it would have the added effect of making GD easier to scroll through for actual worthwhile content. I hope Neo sees it.

Don't think it'd work very well. SC2 Strategy did it because of the huge volume of posts and users, while this subsection is quite small. We also don't have a "strategy" section and highlighting random tangential comments from general discussion doesn't make much sense.
The only consistently decent + at least semi-active poster here is Mogwai.

Yeah this place is too small to have such marking on user's posts.
It's all about lurking long enough to know who actually knows stuff around here.

I don't see how post highlighting is any less intrusive than forcing people to list their rating. The whole point of post highlighting was to get the benefits of having posters know who's "worth listening to" without any of the presumptions/prejudices that inevitably come when you force people to post with their rating.
I'm fine with leaving things the way they are, but I don't see how you can think making everyone list their ELO is going to be more productive than post highlighting. Especially when there are posters whose post quality vastly outstrips their Elo, like Moonbear.

Anyone who's lurked long enough knows how good people are--that's not who such a change would be geared toward. The whole point of having highlighted posts is so that you give new posters a general idea of who's a "good poster" without people forming prejudices based on something as granular as Elo rating/league placement.

yo yango don't let craton get under your skin he makes 100% of his posts as negative as possible he's a flame-baiting troll just trying to make literally everyone else feel bad
everyone here (including cruton) knows that you are one of the best if not the best poster on the board. and we all know that there are tons of other good posters too. i like your system

I mean, I can see where Craton is coming from in one regard, and agree that post highlighting feels totally impractical for the LoL subforum, but I also think that forcing people to post their Elo is STRICTLY WORSE than post highlighting. Personally I don't see a reason to change anything, but if you absolutely must start distinguishing specific posters, mod-managed post highlighting is a strictly better solution than making everyone post their Elo, for reasons that were thoroughly discussed when the SC2 Strategy subforum went through the same shit.

good that this is the craton subsection then, eh?
opinions are opinions, no need to assert otherwise or to get annoyed over such :o

yes other fantastic players like lexvink, dicksuckchan, navi, 5hit, teut... basically trash posters that should have their posts buried amirite

If I had to single anyone out it would be MoonBear. It's too bad Chiharu killed him highlander style.

I don't like the idea of highlighted posts. It doesn't take very long to learn who is smart and who isn't This is Team effing Liquid and not mobafire. I lurked for months before I registered, and for more months before I started posting. If dudes want to join, they are welcome, but if they just want to scan for the most popular build order then there are better places. I don't think its possible to get led very far astray in the subforum because anything silly that gets posted gets BLASTED within two minutes.
Even if you only highlighted smart guys like Smash, Loci, and Loco, you'd have like every 3rd post in GD talking about dunking some dude with Pantheon. Those are fun and all, but don't need to be bolded.
