You can claim we're "elitist," but at the end of the day a e.g. 1300 player doesn't have nearly enough worthwhile experience or knowledge to make the definitive claims that like to get thrown around. The smart way is to preface statements with 'in my experience' or 'players at my level,' but people want to take what they see low caliber players do and repeat it as representative of players at higher tiers when that often is not the case. Anyway, as to "but people will shut them down for staying stupid shit" - not really. There are lots of really stupid things said / claims made on a fairly regular basis that get ignored because nobody wants to take the time getting into the argument to prove them wrong or risk being marked an "elitist" because high Elo play doesn't match up with what the guy is saying. On February 05 2012 16:09 Seuss wrote: I keep my current Elo in my signature. I've been waiting for someone to call me out because it's one point off. Elo is a terrible tool for measuring post value because Elo doesn't represent skill. Except it does and does so quite well, despite its many flaws. It's shown time and time again that players will reach a similar Elo over the course of playing smurfs, new seasons, whatever. You can tank your Elo and climb right back up. You can play on someone's high Elo account and you'll drop right back down to your own Elo. No matter how much you hate the system, it is representative of ability. was arguing for people posting their Elo.

Whenever someone posts something that doesn't mesh with the norm or what I've seen, the level of acceptance I have will relate to the ability of the person making the claim. If it's someone I know to be good like Loci or Smash, I'm inclined to believe it. If it's someone unknown or known to be low, I'm inclined to disbelieve it unless they have a damn convincing argument.

speaking of caps lock, why do people in this game like to blame and rage at others so much in solo queue? like if you 1. want to win 2. want to help others improve 3. improve your own play its not like indicating blame would do any of the above that constructive criticism would fail to do like even if your sole goal is to have fun in this game, coming away from a lost game where you indicate all the blame onto your teammates will probably leave you with a shittier feeling than thinking something along the lines of "well, we made mistakes, but there are a couple of things i could learn from / improve on in that game"

Personally I don't see a reason to change anything, but if you absolutely must start distinguishing specific posters, mod-managed post highlighting is a strictly better solution than making everyone post their Elo, for reasons that were thoroughly discussed when the SC2 Strategy subforum went through the same shit. Even highlighting specific posters is usually a horrible idea because then suddenly people take EVERYTHING they say as a great opinion. As long as people talk about what they know and stick to "I'll stfu if I have no clue" everything is completely fine - and imo this subforum is still small enough that you can distinguish rather quickly who knows his field and who doesn't. PS: Why are we even discussing this? There is like no point besides some delicious Craton bait. =P

And people just don't want to accept that they fucked up so they blame others. Then they start making a habit of it the more the play. I feel when I started out playing with other newbies everyone was just way more polite and nice to each other. But as they play more they get into the habit of raging and generally develop a bad attitude towards teammates. Although I do find that if you make an effort to be nice and co-operative from the start, usually people do reciprocate the attitude. Its just that nobody is willing to do that.
