As for what to build, when I play her I just stacked 2-3 rings then grabbed a deathcap, void, zhonyas castery shit. I know smash was a bigger fan of going for a fast abyssal.

It took people MONTHS to figure out Irelia isn't utter garbage but actually fucking godtier. I'm just curious why people at the very highest level aren't able to grasp a champion's potential. Tryndamere would be a perfect example of that. Voyboy wiped SK with his Trynd, and he hasn't effectively been changed since Skarner patch. Part of the problem is that a lot of champions are super-niche though. Kat's a great example, she's amazing as a last pick if the other team doesn't have many good ways to interrupt her ultimate, but since most team comps will have a few she's very rarely possible to be picked. And as a consequence very few top players have gotten good with her. A lot of champions are like that, powerful but easily countered (Master Yi vs Team with any CC at all) by basic compositions. And another bunch of champions don't fit the current metagame (Heimerdinger, Talon) so a team has to be different, and has to practice a different comp - like EG did with Heimer. But since most players practice solo-queue this doesn't happen often. I think that's the main problem, all the good teams are made up of people who mostly just play solo-queue rather than prepare strategies as a team - though thats starting to change (Epik with Heimer, TSM with crazy lane-swapping or triple wriggles).

He's ringing for locodoco's Korean team. He played solo top Malphite against The Rain Man's Akali and raped him in lane. He's currently 4/0/5 as Malphite against TSM.
