I don't know, personally, I like them a LOT more than flat AP quints. Opinions? I don't have the IP for movement speed quints, but I've been meaning to get them for a while. They are basically the only quints that are really useful throughout the whole game. As far as dodging in the lane goes, I usually start boots+3pots anyway, so I don't really need the movement speed for that. More movement speed is always nice to have though (when have you ever thought, nah my lings are fast enough, I don't need to upgrade speed :D). Funny how you can buy 3 tier 1 movespeed quints for about 500IP and get 2.5% or spend 6k+ for 4.5%. Halloween MS quints were 1k for 1.39% though probably too late now >.<

So I was drinking some orange juice this morning and thought: man i wish they had a male champ with a boomerang and grappling hook. Then they can give them a legendary batman skin that plays the theme song theoughout the entire game. It would all be worth it.

Even then, that's not the full bonus that the Tier 3 ones give. So I'd probably be replacing them sooner or later anyway, and it's just a wasted 3k IP.
Also, the new masteries give 1% less movement speed for one more point and it is more accessible to everyone. Makes movement speed quints even better in my eyes.

The discussion was initially about caster quints, and no caster would take nimbleness.

Had my first game today when I was the only one my team with kills. I was going to write it in the QQ thread, but I'm not here to whine about it. Has anyone else had recently something you'd think you had seen. Cause with as many games as I/tl people have played you'd think you've seen it all. Even though it was a negative it was fun to have another "first"

There should be a runes free market :p I'd love to buy dodge yellow/quints to the poor fools thinking they're not useful anymore \o/

I was laning against a Sion that was taking half my health with each combo. Otherwise I would have got RoA and then boots.

Hehehehehehe Rune combining makes a lot of sense.
Combine quints, get a flat health mark x)

Good you brought up the topic, are there any statistics or calculations if its worth buying tier1 runes to make tier3? Lets assume you dont have any runes and you want to build multiple pages for multiple purpose, not one specific one.

Combning tier 1 runes gives you tier 2 runes at best so you'd have to combine even more. It's not even close to worth it considering the amount of trash runes there are.

I started with one quint of might and 3 other runes and I ended up with one quint of might.

Casters will hvae to choose between offense & utility and now defense seems a bit better. Yeah no one ever bought tabi or used dodge runes unless they had nimbleness, team with 3 ad and no cc? mercs all the way! I see your point. Earlier in this thread I didn't mean to argue that Dodge runes are becoming useless, it's more that Riot seems to not like the stat at all. They have been getting rid of it step by step in the past patches and I believe that the removal of Nimbleness is a big indicator that eventually they are looking to remove the stat completely.

is there any point to combining runes?

I know, but 25 tier1 runes cost 375 IP, and if its really random and you can get any tier3 with equal chance, it may be even worth it statistically. Considering you can recombine the crap runes for 3->1, its even better. Dunno, should make a list of the crap runes and calculate some.
edit: just calculated, the average cost of a tier3 rune is 715.37. In theory it may be worth it

In theory it may be worth it It's still gambling, with how many garbage runes there are. Scaling health regen quints.
There are 18 marks (Fewest of any type) and only 3 of them are used often, with 3 more being used occasionally (MR, Armor, flat AD) the other 2/3 of them are junk like 0.16% CDR and +0.26 mp5
|
If your plan is to have a large number of rune pages with many, many different types of runes it's barely gambling. If you're really looking to get very specific runes it's entirely a gamble.
Really what you do is make a list of all the rune types you want and compare it with all the rune types you don't. From there it's a fairly simple calculation of probability. For obvious reasons the cost/benefit drops significantly if you already have a fair number of the runes you want, so it's only really useful on new accounts.
|
Just upgrade your tier 1 page and pray you get something good. If you're looking for specific runes like everybody does it's too variable to get what you want without a huge investment. If most of the runes weren't useless it might be a better option.
|
Trying to get tier 3 runes out of combining instead of just buying them is something like giving all your money away to a casion and then trying to win it back again.
