To quote the link Jibba posted: Now, let me say now that there's just no way to compare any man to an adult chimpanzee, orangutan, or gorilla. An experiment conducted in the Bronx Zoo in 1924 compared the strength of a 165-pound adult man, and a 165-pound male chimp named "Boma", and a 135-pound female chimp named "Suzette". They compared how much weight the human could pull with one arm to that of the apes, the adult man managed to pull 200 pound before reaching his maximum. The male chimp, on the other hand, pulled 847 pounds of weight with one arm, and the female chimpanzee 1,260 pounds. Furhermore: On one occasion, a log fell into the exhibit of an orangutan, one which four or five humans could not even budge after trying to remove it, however when one of the orangutan's was annoyed with its presence, it threw the log out as if it weighed nothing with one arm. ... a chimp in the wild has the strength of 4 to 7 adult men, however generally five adult men. An orangutan has the strength of 5 to 8 adult men, however generally 7 adult men.

Grabbing the branch of a tree and pulling a rope is the same muscle group. Pulling a weight is the same thing too. When they attack it sounds like they try to rip, again with the same muscle group. Pulling towards them. (This is just for discussion's sake , I'm not pretending to be an evolutionary scientist: ) Humans are more balanced and we certainly have more power in our leg muscles than our arms. Able to change direction quickly and push outwards with a spear, or throw projectiles. We must have some kind of advantage, because very recently on an evolutionary timescale we were directly pitted against these types creatures and comfortably won.

How much smarter we are than apes is another issue; intelligence doesn't help THAT much when you're in a survival battle to kill more prey and stop from being killed yourself. (or do you think it does?) Edit: What I'm saying is that out physics must've helped, at least initially. Walking upright and being able to use our hands wasn't a co-incidence.

Or just poison the bastard... what I wanna know about these videos is who has the balls to film them. Seems like you have to get lucky to set up the cameras and catch anything. If its an actual person filming and not a camera posted up there how come the people dont get attacked. Im sure the chimps can smell them.

I once watched this documentary where they used remote controlled cams that could zoom in really far and even drive around and shit, and they used elephants to deploy them, was really cool. Oh found an image: ![]() Animals got so close that they even noticed their reflection in the lens, pretty neat. ![]()
