ImgBurn Replaces: Nero Burning Rom Very easy to use, great interface, never had any issues with it. I didn't try InfraRecorder, but if you say it doesn't have a pretty interface, then this program is for you. http://www.imgburn.com/ and Avira Replaces: Most antiviruses It's free, which is the best thing about it, but it's also light and very efficient. Doesn't eat up too many resources, takes very little to install and update, the only downside being a pop-up window every time it updates (about once every two days) that you have to click "OK" on. It's like an add or something, but I think it's a small price to pay for a good avir. http://www.avira.com/en/pages/index.php Edit: beaten to ImgBurn. Well I guess it has +1 from me then. Light and fast.

I mean that in all honesty too, it loads TL for instance distinctly faster then FF does, at least to a point where I often do notice it when I have to switch to FF for some compatibility thing.

Replaces: none It helps managing mass files by changing the name/adding counters to the end of the file (doing it to all selected files at the same time). This is very useful for photo sorting or anykind of mass file naming. I hate manual naming. http://the-rename.softonic.com/

Replaces: winamp, foobar. Most lightweight mp3 player there is. Can't play much more than just mp3 and wav, but when you're like me and have everything sorted in folders pretty well, just drag one folder and you're done. http://www.sheepfriends.com/?page=billy Gridmove Replaces: Multiple small monitors, maximalising A tool that allow you to set different regions on your screen to which you can then drag windows to very very fast. This is most useful on bigger monitors. I use one half of my screen for a browser, the rest is mp3/msn/skype/other small windows. I can move these around really quickly and precisely by just dragging with the top bar. http://www.jgpaiva.donationcoders.com/gridmove.html

Transcribes like "A Scintilla-based Text Editor". An alternative to Notepad++, this one is an advanced text editor that supports syntax highlighting for many languages, typical advanced text editor features (like line number, monowide fonts etc), block shrinking (you can basically reduce the text in "for (; ![]() http://scintilla.sourceforge.net/SciTEDownload.html Artweaver: "A freeware photoshop" or so it should say. It's a neat program for those who like Photoshop's interface since it mimicks it almost completely. Unlike GIMP, which is a direct unix port (the first G actually stands for GNU) with all the consequences, Artweaver is a native windows application. It's very lightweight and actually very nifty for both those in need of pasic photo editing (once again, because it's very reminiscent of Photoshop, just with less options) and those who want to actually paint. It's painting tools are quite decent and good for beginners. For a windows user or a painting beginner, GIMP is somewhat cumbersome, that's why I often use Artweaver instead. http://www.artweaver.de/index.php?en_version Can't remember anything else atm (I certainly use more, but it's not general purpose), because most of the stuff is on the list. Well, Visual Studio and SQL Server Express are free, but those are not general purpose applications, so I don't think they require listing. Great list btw, even though I know and use most of the stuff, there were some names I haven't heard of, particularly Blender.
