Chrome is shit faced bull shit full of googles ass lovers it's so called minial approach is lies Opera can show more screen then chrome just becuase chrome is uncustimizeable and the fat ass peice of shit bar on the top is going no where! K-lite all it has over CCCP is that it has real alternative fucking real player is bull shit. K-lite is big and messy although it includes the oringal codecs like XVID and shit guess what besides postprocessing which you can enable in FFDshow Tryouts that is used in CCCP deblocking etc is the onyl thing that changes quality all codecs as long as they decode correctly have the same quality Only diff is load cccp > K-lite just becuase Anyways shoved random amounts of anti virus anti spy and mal and firewall. My suggestion is Get 1 anti virius get 2-3 anti spywear/mal cuz everything multitaskin now of days if you are really afriadsz and get 1 firewall

Ccleaner Junk files cleaner, reg cleaner, start-up tool Best free little program, if you don't have this, you've probably been living under a rock! Defraggler HD defragmentation Not a lot of options, but its easy to use, light, offers good defragmentation and one by one file defragmentation. K-lite mega codec pack Has windows home cinema(media player classic) and a ton of codecs for every file format out there! Chrome Duh its google's browser, the best on the internet right now, pretty light, user friendly, robust and fast Unlocker unlocks programs being used by windows or other programs so you can delete them Very light, easy to use and does its job perfectly Paint.net Picture editor Its light, free, easy to use, has many of the options photoshop has, its fast and unless you are doing some really advanced editing it will do you good. Orbit downloader Download accelerator/manager This is a free, light and easy to use download manager, it supports IE6,7,8, chrome, firefox, opera and any other internet browsers, supports resume, can download from multiple locations, can reach for P2P for faster downloads, allows you to download from website like youtube and so on... AdAware Spyware remover This is one of the oldest free spyware removers out there, its can remove spyware, trojans, keyloggers, malware, tracking cookies, its fairly light compared to some counterparts, its very easy to use and does a [retty good job of detecting and removing any malware! ZoneAlarm free firewall I've been using the ZASS for over 5 years and i have only praise, apart from instaling major new versions when they are released which can broke your windows, its a solid firewall. I haven't had serious malware and/or virus problems for as long as i'm using it. So I really reccomend the free firewall since its really the same as the suite without the more advanced options!

Launching starcraft for me is going winkey+R, star. and i didn't have to download a program to do it. wait a minute, this is also available on linux? what the hell? What happened to alt+f2? so this program has no use on either OS, lol You can do all this within Windows and it's much faster than the Start Menu or any application. Create a Shortcut to the target program, right click > Properties, select Shortcut, and specify your shortcut key combination. It accepts Ctrl, Alt, and Shift combinations. So if I want Starcraft to be Alt+Shift+S, that's what it will be every time I want to launch it.

Seconding: VLC Zonealarm dbPowerAmp GIMP (haven't tried Artweaver, that sounds like a better alternative. I hate the UI in GIMP, it's almost like it tries so hard to NOT be Photoshop that everything is laid out all wacky) CCCP (that's really more of the standard codec pack though, not really a program) ImgBurn is good but I've only burned a couple of discs with it. I hate how bloated Nero has become. I tried Opera a long time ago shortly before Netscape died, but then I stopped liking it and Firefox has just taken over completely now. Maybe Opera is better now, but it had its chance and it's too late to go back!

CCCP XP Codec Pack (both very light and together give me almost anything I need) And I got standalone versions of: realalternative quicktimealternative (they sometimes aren't installed properly with codec packs) Edit: Almost forgot about: FileAssassin http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php I use it rarely but when I do I praise it. It basically allows you to delete some pesky files (how often have you stumbled upon: File can not be deleted because it's being used by another application. etc?)

Replaces: C++ Visual Studio One of those rare cases where the free, open source, program is actually more robust and complete than the expensive paid one! If you program in C++, get CodeBlocks, it's the shit. http://www.codeblocks.org/ Bluefish Replaces: code editor for HTML, Python, Java, and more http://bluefish.openoffice.nl/ Foobar Replaces: Winamp, WMPlayer Free, lightweight music player, very good for listening to radio. http://www.foobar2000.org/ Super 2008 Replaces: Video converter Free video converter, changes from almost any media type to any other, really efficiently with a lot of powerful control over what you're doing. The best converter ever. http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html Filezilla Replaces: Any FTP client. If you ever need an FTP client, this one is powerful and free. http://filezilla-project.org/ Inkscape Replaces: Corel Draw Really powerful free and open source vectorized graphic designer. No need for the huge ass heavy corel crap. http://www.inkscape.org/ CCleaner Replaces: your windows crap Freeware tool that searches windows for crap (temp files, dead archives, errors) and fix them all quick and easy. http://www.ccleaner.com/ Miranda IM Replaces: MSN, AIM, ICQ, Yahoo crap Fuck those heavy, bugged and intrusive messengers. Miranda is free, open source and very light weight. Replaces all of those at once, you can use all those networks at the same time with one program. http://www.miranda-im.org/ Systrack Replaces: Ctrl Alt Del menu, msconfig Free program that shows a full list of running programs (even the ones windows hides for gay reasons) and let you kill them. Allows you to change anything on start up registry (even some windows won't let you change). Much more powerful and organized than the default windows tools. http://www.processarchive.com/software.php?source=time Awesome thread guys. Keep it up. Please update the original post. That Blender and the one that replaces Nero both look great, I didn't know about those.

But my girlfriend wants me to teach her some basics about 3d modeling, but she doesn't know shit about computers so I'm afraid 3ds might be too hard for her. Is Blender intuitive enough for a newcomer to get started doing cute stuff? You can.. try but 3d models tend to take an absurd amount of skill to make properly. I'm sure you could teach her how to use it but it would take quite awhile I think.

Replaces: your IRC client It's a really lightweight IRC client that offers quite a lot of customization. http://silverex.info/news/ JKDefrag Replaces: Windows defragger It's fast, it's simple, and it can optimize your disk (by bringing files together, closer to the beginning of the disk). It's a great program, with a lot of commandline options that could fit anyone's needs. http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/ Xtreme-G Video Drivers (for Nvidia and ATI) Replaces: official Nvidia and ATI drivers Great for those who want the absolute best performance from their GPU. Performance won't soar like mad, but the benchmarks show some nice advantages over the official drivers. These are updated very often, so there's not much worry about missing out on any features from the official drivers. http://www.tweakforce.com/ Middle_Man (AIM plugin) This lightweight plugin adds a lot of features to AIM 5.9. Lets you block ads with ease, log conversations, and tabbed IM windows. http://www.mymiddleman.com/ Alarm Replaces: your alarm clock A simple alarm clock run on your computer. Lets you play any sound. Great for waking you up for a Winners League match. http://bluefive.pair.com/alarm.htm Halite (BitTorent Client) Replaces: your current BitTorrent client Very lightweight, open-source, and can support a lot of great features. I would definitely recommend this over uTorrent (although there is nothing bad about it). http://www.binarynotions.com/halite-bittorrent-client That's all I got right now. Most of the other ones that I would recommend to everyone (foobar, Media Player Classic, CCleaner) have already been posted.
