Although it doesn't matter, I don't test on Opera, because no one uses it.
Well I am a web designer. See? slight difference... Opera is one of the pioneers in keeping up to date in web standards. Along side browsers running off Webkit e.g. Chrome, Safari. Then you have Firefox. IE is the least standards supporting browser there is.
BUT...
If you do know exactly what your talking about, you should know that you can create websites that work for all major browsers (INC IE6) and have them work WITHOUT HACKS with no glitches etc. unless ofcourse you use transparent PNG but o well, you have js hacks for that.
To summarise... you stick to making websites that barely function in IE but leave the opinions to real web designers.

Ninite pretty much has everything you'll ever need for now.
I also suggest: Handbrake (for video converting, cross platform) Aphophysis (for fractal creation, it's fun to mess around with) Exact Audio Copy (for doing perfect CD rips, Windows)
I think everything that I'd suggest has been mentioned.

Hey, just wanted to post and say thanks for this super awesome thread, found a lot of really useful stuff! I figured I might as well throw in a contribution.
Netmeter is an awesome utility that is very lightweight and pretty easy to use. It monitors bandwidth traffic entering and leaving your computer, and records a lot of logs to see what your upload/download consumption is like over a day/month/year. You can also set alarms if you're over a certain limit you set. Very handy .

Well, it was practical when my DL limit was 20 GB, and I had roommates that constantly went over. Got them to install this and it was really useful for everyone to keep in check (or find out who's screwing everyone over!). Saved me like 15-20 bucks a month for sure.

apparently hosts files are more of an adequate protection than an anti-virus

That's why we have people doing it for us. It's called the support community, and firefox has one of the biggest atm. And if you're not a coder, then stop spouting random crap like
Add ons are dangerious you open your brower up to alot of attacks blindly adding add-ons and messing with code.
What you are doing right now, is acting like a retarded zealot on crack, that's giving opera users out there a bad name just because of how empty and crudely-constructed your arguments are. And by the way, learn some proper english please.

LoL, yeah. That's what I was thinking. Great tool for when you wiped your hard drive and have a fresh install of Windows, but that also means you don't have your bookmarks

Ninite needs avira imo, avira always ranks first in all the independent antivirus testing websites. I don't find it very easy to customize though so w/e.
bookmarked :D
