Doesn't a powerline being hit mean it is very likely intentional?

Same as a lightning strike or tree falling over and taking out the line or whatever else might happen, the grids(at least on the PL side, Ukraine is fairly damaged) can fail safely and rebalance the load from elsewhere.

Not objecting to a response - but that's more because I generally support stronger support for Ukraine to help them win this war than it is because I consider this a particularly escalating event.

Doesn't target Russians directly, benefits Ukraine in a tangible way and shows Russia we're not fucking around. Good proportionate response without attacking Russian soil. A neat intersection of Fucking Around and Finding Out.

The communique of Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs doesn't really say much, just that Russian-made missile fell on Polish territory (not far from where I live) killing 2 people and they're calling the Russian Ambassador for clarification. According to some sources the missile that fell on Polish soil might've come from the S-300 system, which would open the possibility of it being Ukrainian AA missing its target and unfortunately falling outside of their territory. I guess we won't know the truth until further investigations are concluded.

I think I at least want to believe that this was a great mistake but drone makes a great comparison between this and the Serbian bombing of the Chinese embassy. America in that case really messed up and china didn't retaliate against American targets in asia. Demanding that Russia doesn't hit targets in a buffer from the polish border might be the most that is proportionate. Preventing this from happening again is a statement and it seems clear that Russia sees that its best chance is to freeze out the civilians of Ukraine until they collapse.

There is no way Russia is targeting Poland, or any other NATO countries at this point. It's unlikely, but not impossible, that one of their missiles went off course. But it was already pretty much confirmed by OSINT sources like 3 hours after the incident that it was a - Ukrainian - S300. It appears that was just drowned out by all the panic mongering. Ukrainian foreign minister Kuleba calling it a "conspiracy theory" doesn't help. NATO intelligence will have shared the same information with Poland and Ukraine. Nothing will come of this other than that the Russian media will have a conspiracy field day.

Well I think most sane people consider this a terrible lose-lose situation. Morally it doesn't make a difference if a Polish farm got hit or not. The whole war is still a terrible situation that Russia has created and they should be held accountable for. However, no one wants to escalate the war and trigger MAD over this. The problem is that you also have to stand your ground as NATO to be an efficient deterrent to escalation. Lose-lose. Fortunately, it seems like it was a Ukrainian missile that was supposed to shoot down a Russian missile.

I could imagine some kind of "deliberate accident" from Russia to show they're not afraid of any potential retaliation (even though "it totally wasn't them, it was an accident, and Poland deserved it anyway"), but in this case it really looks like it was an Ukrainian anti-air missile malfunctioning and turning into anti-tractor missile.

Currently a few miles from NATO headquarters so if we enter WWIII, that's it for me. See y'all on the other side Can relate. In May, I was convinced that the chances of nuclear war incoming are high; so I spent most of the time in my summer cottage with a direct view on Engels-2 airbase (a place where all Russian Tu-160 strategic nuclear bombers are located) to be the first to confirm if it finally started
