On other news, these back of the napkin calculations are illuminating even if I wouldn't rely on them much.

Very heavy fighting still ongoing. Pisky was taken on Monday, AFU front positions are now along the Donetsk CIrcular Highway right to the west of Pisky. DPR forces are currently advancing to the south-west through the fields in Krasnohorivka direction, probably to press Mariinka from the north, to either surround, or force AFU out. It's both neccesary to prevent AFU shelling of Donetsk, and to restore water supply (a lot of water to Donetsk comes from the lakes and water reservoirs to the west, so Donetsk for a few months have being facing severe water shortages).

Try again in ten years. | ||

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/aug/17/they-turned-us-into-savages-russian-soldier-describes-start-of-ukraine-invasion "Confirms" that the state of Russian army is deplorable. I'm hoping it's true, but I consider all news biased by now :S (edit) Also: thanks for all the people chipping in with news/background/arguments from all angles. This thread has been a valuable source of information since day 1.

Apparently the big success of HIMARS so far is because of joint operations. Airplanes firing AGM-88 HARM rockets to disable enemy radar systems followed by HIMARS strikes. What's interesting about it is that UA doesn't have an airplane compatible with AGM-88 HARM so some news outlets are speculating that NATO aircraft are secretly helping them out. I think the truth is however that they have MIG-29 modified to be able to carry those rockets. Polish army has proposed such modifications several years ago and were working on it in cooperation with Israel. There's a possibility that Poland or Slovakia has modified MIG-29s for UA. It's also worth noting that along with HIMARS Ukraine has also received some MIG-29s in parts from the US (which could've already been modified for AGM-88).

But technically correct, Black sea Fleet has only one aviation regiment directly in their structure (43rd Naval Attack), and while by default it should have 24 planes (2 squadrons of 12), more likely it had less active planes after 5 months of war. But it's heavy blow nonetheless. Black Sea Fleet commander was removed from office few days later. How does the product compare? And did they keep the names of the burgers/coffees similar, like a is a big mac no like a big Vlad or something? Or if we have others in Russia they could comment as well. I've seen pictures of the branding and stuff and it looks the same but I know they had to source different inputs so I'm guessing the product is different. Most of the products are the same, at least seem so visually. Names changed, all of them. Coca-cola, for example, now goes in 10 different brands or so (guess each production plant decided to take their own route). Big Tasty is now Big Special, Royal is now Grand and so on. McDonalds itself is called "Vkusno i tochka" - "Tasty and that's it". As for what is inside - didn't try it yet, I generally prefer our local pizzerias and burger cafes (there is one from Krasnodar with very tasty craft burgers). Regarding international ones - I guess I'll go try them a bit (in a week or two, I'm in self-isolation now due to wife being sick with Covid), but my opinion may be valid only on KFC and Burger King, as I was there somewhat recently, others I've never liked before anyway.
