US has announced a new Aid package.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. for the first time Friday said it will give Ukraine Scan Eagle surveillance drones, mine-resistant vehicles, anti-armor rounds and howitzer weapons to help Ukrainian forces regain territory and mount a counteroffensive against Russian invaders.

A senior defense official told reporters that a new $775 million aid package will include 15 Scan Eagles, 40 mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicles known as MRAPs with mine-clearing rollers, and 2,000 anti-armor rounds that can help Ukraine troops move forward in the south and east, where Russian forces have placed mines. The official said the U.S. is looking to help shape and arm the Ukrainian force of the future as the war drags on.

This latest aid comes as Russia’s war on Ukraine is about to reach the six-month mark. It brings the total U.S. military aid to Ukraine to about $10.6 billion since the beginning of the Biden administration. It is the 19th time the Pentagon has provided equipment from Defense Department stocks to Ukraine since August 2021.

The U.S. has provided howitzer ammunition in the past, but this is the first time it will send 16 of the weapon systems. The aid package also includes 1,500 anti-tank missiles, 1,000 javelin missiles and an undisclosed number of high-speed, anti-radiation or HARM missiles that target radar systems. The Ukrainian forces have been successfully using various precision artillery systems to try and hold off Russian forces and take back territory Moscow has gained.

The defense official briefed reporters on the new weapons aid on condition of anonymity under ground rules set by the Defense Department.

For much of the last four months of the war, Russia has concentrated on capturing the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, where pro-Moscow separatists have controlled some territory as self-proclaimed republics for eight years.

Russian forces have made some incremental gains in the east, but they have also been put on the defensive in other regions, as Ukraine ratchets up its attacks in Ukraine’s Black Sea peninsula of Crimea. The Russian-occupied territory was seized by Moscow in 2014. Nine Russian warplanes were reported destroyed last week at an airbase on Crimea in strikes that highlighted the Ukrainians’ capacity to strike deep behind enemy lines.

Russian leaders have warned that striking facilities in Crimea marks an escalation in the conflict fueled by the U.S. and NATO allies and threatens to pull America deeper into the war.

One Western official said Friday that the war is at a “near operational standstill,” with neither side able to launch major offensives. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss military assessments, said the whole tempo of the campaign has slowed, partly because both sides recognize that “this is a marathon not a sprint and that expenditure rates and conserving their munitions is important.”

But the U.S. and Western officials both said that Ukraine has been able to launch successful attacks deep behind Russian battle lines, which is eroding logistics support and command and control of Moscow’s forces, and harming their morale.

The U.S. official said that while Ukrainian troops haven’t been able to retake a lot of territory, they have been able to significantly weaken Russian positions in a number of places.

Efforts to tamp down the fighting have also continued. On Thursday, Turkey’s leader and the U.N. chief met in western Ukraine with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. They discussed a range of issues including prisoner exchanges and an effort to get U.N. atomic energy experts to visit the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine.

The facility has been controlled by Russian forces since shortly after the invasion began on Feb. 24 and has been the target of a number of explosions. Kyiv and Moscow accuse each other of shelling the plant, stoking international fears of a catastrophe on the continent.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he would follow up with Russian President Vladimir Putin, given that most of the matters discussed would require the Kremlin’s agreement.

@ardias have you tried the new starbucks or mcdonalds? Are they basically copies of the originals or are they same look but different food? How does the product compare? And did they keep the names of the burgers/coffees similar, like a is a big mac no like a big Vlad or something?

Or if we have others in Russia they could comment as well. I've seen pictures of the branding and stuff and it looks the same but I know they had to source different inputs so I'm guessing the product is different.

I've tried (except the new Starbucks). The replacement for Coca-Cola (called Cool-Cola) tastes exactly the same; the new McDonalds in my opinion has become significantly better. The hamburgers has become slightly different, ice-cream has improved a lot, and there are some new drinks. However I also has never been a fan of McDonalds and preferred the other fastfood brands.

So it appears Pakistan is the one secretly supplying Ukraine with Artillery etc.

Britain’s Royal Air Force has been running near-daily flights with a C-17 Globemaster heavy lift aircraft from Romania to an airbase in the Pakistani garrison city of Rawalpindi since early this month, data from flight tracking websites have shown.

People familiar with the matter said the flights were apparently linked to a mission in support of Ukraine. It was not immediately clear what sort of equipment was being airlifted by the massive RAF aircraft. The Globemaster can carry up to 77,000 kg of cargo.

The flights, via the RAF’s Akrotiri base on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, were first spotted by social media accounts using open-source intelligence such as flight tracking websites. The flights involved a Boeing C-17A Globemaster III of the RAF with the call sign ‘ZZ173’.

There has been no official word from authorities in Britain, Romania or Pakistan about these flights, which have been tracked since at least August 6. The same Globamaster aircraft was tracked in Pakistani airspace on Tuesday, flying from Cyprus to the Pakistan Air Force’s Nur Khan airbase in Rawalpindi.

The flight tracking websites showed that the RAF flights flew through Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Oman airspaces before entering Pakistan, skirting the airspace of Iran and Afghanistan.

The British government under prime minister Boris Johnson has been at the forefront of efforts to assist Ukraine’s armed forces following Russia’s invasion of the eastern European country in February.

Royal Air Force C-17A Globemaster III, Serial No. ZZ176 currently in Pakistani airspace over Quetta at 33,000 feet and 463 knots. Flying from RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus to Nur Khan Airbase, Rawalpindi. Earlier flights include RAF Akrotiri to RAF Brize Norton in UK, and on to Poland.

Twitter user The Intel Consortium, with the handle @INTELPSF, said in a post that most Ukrainian large artillery guns use 155mm ammunition. “Ukrainian warplanners have said the best aid they can get is 155mm artillery ammunition. The U.S. recently sent 75,000 rounds of it to Ukraine. Guess who else makes that ammunition: Pakistan Ordinance Factory,” it said in a tweet.

Pakistan also has over 320 Ukrainian T-80UD tanks in service, and a completely developed ecosystem of their maintenance, operation, ammunition, and spare parts. Pakistan Ordnance Factory also makes small arms ammunition compatible with Ukrainian military standard-issue rifles.

“Pakistan also has over 320 Ukrainian T-80UD tanks in service, and a completely developed ecosystem of their maintenance, operation, ammunition, and spare parts,” the account further claimed.

The Pakistan Ordnance Factory also makes small arms ammunition compatible with Ukrainian military standard-issue rifles,” it said in another tweet.

Pakistan and Ukraine have close military ties and Islamabad has posted retired military officers as envoys to Kyiv for more than a decade.

So it appears the strikes are Russian AA defenses failing/friendly fire.

This is starting to get scary...

TIRANA, Aug 20 (Reuters) - The Albanian Defense Ministry said on Saturday that two of its soldiers were injured while trying to stop two Russians and one Ukrainian who were trying to enter a military plant in central Albania, the ministry said in a statement. “Three citizens with Russian and Ukrainian passports have tried to enter the factory,” the ministry said in a statement sent to media. “The officers who were guarding the plant reacted immediately, but during their efforts to stop the three foreign nationals, two of our soldiers were injured,” the statement said, adding the conditions of the soldiers was stable. The ministry said the three foreign nationals were detained. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said the three individuals are “suspected of espionage.” The defense ministry said one of the arrested, identified only as a Russian national M.Z., 24 years old, entered the plant’s territory and was trying to take photos.

The ministry said the man used a kind of spray against soldiers while trying to escape after being stopped by guards.

Two others, a Russian woman identified as S.T., 33 years old, and an Ukrainian man F.A., 25 years old were also arrested in the vicinity.

During the summer holidays Albania is visited by many Russians and Ukrainian tourists. The Gramsh military base is more than 70 kilometers away from the beaches.

During communism, the Albanian Gramsh plant was used to produce the Russian type of rifle AK 47. According to the ministry’s website the plant today provides manufacturing services for the defense industry, without giving more details.

Albania has been a member of NATO since 2009.

I find it hard to believe Ukranian cells would be able to do this in Moscow, that reminds me more of Mossad stuff against nazis post ww2.

It looks like Dugin was supposed to be in that car, but for some reason switched cars.

Feels like this is a big move. Dugin was pushing for this awful war. Hopefully the other russian war-pushing figureheads will have some bad nights sleep.

Dugin is also a nobody, just a PR tool, zero influence. And UA knows this. The scumbag probably owed the wrong people money or something and got his daughter killed. I'd read nothing from this.

Ukraine's Independence day is on 24 August. I wonder if Russia would do some provocation considering they (at Kremlin) like symbolism when it comes to dates and events. Probably some push from Kherson or towards Bakhmut?

Edit: If someone wonders why I refer to symbolism, it's because it was speculated that invasion in Ukraine started 1 day after this public holiday in Russia

Also, this is as old as 2014 but I see where Russian invasion is going - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novorossiya
Reviving the old "New Russia" plan. They're close but they won't do it this time either.

It was on the Estonian independence day, Putin seems to have an irrational hate for us, or vindictive hate...

On other news, RU tourists keep pouring into Estonia, even tho the rate has declined after we concluded the removal of some soviet monuments. I guess fewer provocateurs needed...

Here's Bruno Macaes capturing the Estonian view succinctly:

I'm 100% for memes but this is a case where I'm really not laughing. This guy is far too protected for this to be an outside job and his daughter being the one killed for being in his car instead is just chilling. An unstable nuclear power is the worst case scenario out of this.

Although she was as much of a Nazi as her father, he was most likely the target. They were on their way back from an event. It was Dugin's car but last minute he decided to go in another.

Thats a double-edged sword though. Kyiv was supposed to fall in 3 days, 6 months later and now Russia can't protect their generals their flagship their airports their supply dumps AND now they can't protect their leaders? Even if they use her death as the cause to fully declare war and start mobilization it will be the dead of winter before they see any sort of combat power increase, with no guarantee of it being a success or them not suffering from the looming Ukrainian counterattack in the south.

They are facing down a long cold winter against an enemy that will be gaining tens of thousands of western trained troops with god knows what kinds of new tech to bring to bear. A-10's? F-16's? after months of continued SEAD missions?

No this was a message to Putin's inner circle by someone saying that they are not safe. Nothing good comes from this no matter what is done about it. As the story goes in russia , then things got worse.

War has to become a lot worse for Russia for there to be a significant government change. As of now, based on these videos, young Russians are divided. Some want a change, others are too afraid to even discuss Russia without Putin. I think it's useful to get an idea about how things go from inside.
