Diet only goes so far unfortunately.
According to Fitbit, May 8 - Aug 5, 2019 my daily avg calorie expenditure was 3067cal.
Currently for the last month it's 2402. The 650cal is worth over a pound a week and unfortunately, I fucking love food. I cut a lot of food out of my diet, but looking at cutting more makes me more sad than it's worth.
I stopped the growth, but I'd much rather have over 600 cal of extra room and the ability to snack 400cal than where I am now. Biking is nice, but that doesn't replace ~9-12 hours a week of league sports (mostly ultimate frisbee) with friends for the summer. We aren't getting two doses for most of the summer, so I don't think I have the numbers to captain a team for what little of the summer I do have to play.

Idk about you guys, but Im tired of my nose hair falling into my mask and into my mouth. Your not wearing a mask for yourself, your doing it for the 60% around you that isnt vaccinated yet. I left out some context. People who are fully vaccinated are working at office already while the rest are wfh. Questionable policy to reward people who don't vaccinate and punish those who do. At this point I think most would like to return to the office, or at least be allowed too. 45min each way in public transit to get to/from work really puts a damper in me wanting to go to work. The benefits I get are: 1. Coffee 2. A/C 3. Exercise walking around 3. is the most compelling to me now. I get less than 2000 steps if I don't leave the house in a day, if I go to work, I usually hit 10k without trying. I'm about 12lbs heavier than pre-covid, and losing that is kinda challenging without slightly higher baseline calorie burn. I get that! I'm pretty happy to work from home but I can just tell the social bonds are not what they used to be and newer people don't feel like part of the team even with Zoom. Being in a smaller city the commute is not much but it still is not like walking down stairs. I plan to work 2-3 days a week in the office and the rest at home when things get normal and anytime I'm not feeling great or snow (that impacts driving) I'll also probably stay. We are also already talking about smaller office space with fewer solo offices and more offices that you can book for when you need them or client meetings. I'm quite interested to see how everything shakes out when we get back to "normal". My trick to losing weight was I cut bread from every meal but supper. At first it was at little hard as toast and sandwiches were pretty common, but it was not bad and it forced me to eat really healthy breakfasts and lunches and then the one "bad" supper didn't seem to matter. I'm not really a fan of the 0 carb stuff but I was clearly eating way to much bread!
Bread is not my problem. I stopped buying it when working from home since I make food instead of having a light supper/breakfast. Previous pattern was a heavy lunch at work and not really bothering with cooking food on work days.
The problem is that I make food and finish it, I don't throw food away and get close enough that there isn't enough to freeze. Combined with no natural exercise, needing to leave the apartment 1-2 times a week is not enough.

Friends of mine solved that problem by having a standing desk and a fitness center running thingy below it, so they can walk while they do computer stuff.

Damn, my covid experience has been quite different from what a lot of others seem to have been going through. Lost weight due to free time to exercise/lift, it helps that I live 10mins away from a place to go hiking/fishing in the mountains. I wasn't active at all until I had nothing else to do but find solo/couple outdoor activities. Hell, I even quit drinking because it's depressing to get hammered alone in my apartment; time isolated to reflect on life was a definite benefit to me.

At least be allowed to is the important qualifier there. I'd become an anti-vaxxer until I found a new job if people who got vaccinated had to come in and people who didn't vaccinate got to continue work from home.

My work from home solution to the exercise thing is to go for a walk after work. Gives you a clear line of when work stops and home begins plus all the benefits of walking.

I also lost weight, but i attribute that mostly to changing my diet a lot for non-corona reasons.

I lost approximately 15-20 lbs due to a combination of playing it safe and laziness. I eat out all the time. Early on in the pandemic, I switched to going out to get lunch while only snacking for dinner. Stocked up with cereal, cookies, chips, nuts, dried fruit and the like. That's all I have for dinner nowadays.
I'm on the camp that wants to work permanently from home. I roll out of bed 10 minutes before the start of work and quickly get dressed. And by dressed, I mean changing out of pjs into shorts. 45 mins commute each way (slightly longer going home) is just a huge waste of time.
As somebody who plays a limited amount of genres, I did worry about having enough new games to play.

Right on, glad it's been helpful for other people, too. I just posted that because I felt incredibly lucky among seeing a lot of people online talk about their quality of life being hampered over the past year or so. My current job doesn't have the possibility to work from home, which I suppose is a good thing. I'm glad my hobbies have been slowly moving away from gaming, as it became rather depressing to realize how much time I was spending on that (for many of the initial lockdown months I was unemployed.) Of course I'm typing this between osu! sessions: I haven't completely moved on ;p

According to Fitbit, my summer 2019 calorie usage was ~3100 cal/day between may-august. This May so far, it's at 2450.
I've definitely cut out a lot of food in my life because I peaked at +15lbs and I'm at +12lbs now, but I've missed out on a lot of organized sports that I used to play year-round. Going to work in the office would be a value-add for me though. I've gotten a ton more comfortable biking around the city, and I think I'll be a fair-weather commuter. I'm fine going in 5 days a week if it's good weather and I get to fit in some exercise biking. If it's raining, fuck that I'm rolling outta bed, starting my computer so it gets past startup lag and wandering off to brush my teeth.

There have been a lot of test events going on for the last months in several countries. As I have seen, 5000 is the go-to number. They generally do not include social distancing, but they are all tested beforehand while some oblige face masks and some don't (like the Eurovision final).
I hope some conclusion will come out of this soon and that data is shared well between the countries!
On the other end, the religious festival Kumbh Mela in India seems to be the biggest superspread event to date. A 3rd of the passengers of a New Dehli-Hong Kong flight tested positive. I doubt long distance flying can be done 100% safely, even though I think the airlines are very careful about the protocols.

Just not from the country with the worst active outbreak in the world. I saw some anecdotal reports on reddit that like 20+% of their Indian teams were out for covid related reasons. Couple that with the fact that it is easier to get a fake test than a real one, and it's not really a stretch to see 30% on a single flight.
US for example has less than 1/1000 people with an active covid infection now. Statistically, even on a large flight there's pretty good odds that nobody on it will be infectious.
I would expect masking to continue on flights for a period of time though, especially for international travel.

As much as I am tired of masks, flights is a place where they could make sense, with many people forced to sit tight for a long time.
They are not magical, thought. Virus are REALLY small, and if air can get through, some virus will too, despite decent ventilation.
My last flight, I was very impressed with the protocols, and correct use of masks were just as important as having them on as much as possible.

To be honest, in the USA if insurance companies stop paying for covid treatment after a certain date, or raise premiums on unvaccinated, the vaccination rates should go up. That serves the stick role pretty well, and then giving a carrot in lotteries or something gets the other bit of the population that's willing to get the vaccine but lazy.
There's a small subset of the population which won't get it under any circumstance, but that's something you just have to live with. The goal is to just minimize that population

You are in the same recycled air for so long. Without it I'm just simply not going to travel by air.
Are there any legitimate logistical issues with making sure every vaccinated person has received a physical card or an online confirmation that shows proof of being vaccinated, that could be used at airports? I assume that there aren't really any access issues to this sort of ID confirming they've been vaccinated, but making sure every vaccinated person can receive this sort of passport is something I'd care about way more than what unvaccinated people want. Quite frankly, I don't give a shit what unvaccinated people* want, in the grand scheme of making sure everything reopens safely for those of us who are willing to get vaccinated.
*I know that a tiny percentage of unvaccinated people can't be vaccinated for legitimate medical reasons. I'm not referring to them, but rather, to the 99% of unvaccinated people who are too lazy or selfish to get vaccinated. Since when did waiting for the safety studies to finish mean someone is anti-vaccine? Fact is the Pfizer long term safety studies aren’t due to report until 2023 Source : https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04368728
Additionally it has emergency use authorisation only, not full approval. We all know that.So a bit nutty to force people into taking it.Just offer it to anyone who wants it, those who don’t want it take their chances.Simple.
