And there are all kinds of arguments for why Metallica is more suited to the games, particularly when one of those games is WoW. In then end they don't have to match them up at all, they can pick whoever they want. In general it really bugs me when everyone gets upset because a large group decides to do something that isn't the thing they want them to do. Blizzard couldn't listen to, and please, everyone, even if they wanted to. It's their event, they can do whatever the hell they want, enjoy it or don't partake.
I know. I just think that skrillex or deadmaus would be a better fit. They dont HAVE to use them, they can go with kanye or whomever -- in this case, they went with Metalica.
I already bounded my M5 macro key on my black widow to mute sounds so im ok.

12 year old me would've been super hyped for this.

I don't know this seems kind of awkward. Isn't Blizzcon populated by mostly nerdy types? Isn't Metallica supposed to be for hardcore rockers? So isn't their performance going to be met with mostly awkward people who don't like to dance...well I guess its probably not going to be a real concert. Or maybe they just don't care about that stuff and I'm too sensitive

In the 80s-90s, game music was "midi sound" from some sound chip on board. So of course some dip-dipidip-dipidip tunes from a gameboy have more in common with dupstep then with real music! *duck*

And I want Miley Cyrus as liveact with Bieber features.

Arguing about music artists is pointless, as we all know the only appropriate act for Blizzcon would be MC Frontalot. :p
No, seriously why the hell are we arguing about what "gamers" like?

No, seriously why the hell are we arguing about what "gamers" like? Idunno, people like being right. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but I guess a lot of people would prefer it if others had the same opinion as them?
I personally think it's a terrible choice to go with Metallica, but since I already don't care that much about Blizzcon and am not going, it doesn't actually affect me whatsoever, so I don't see the problem. Even if I were going it wouldn't be a problem for me to just... not be at the Metallica concert.
I do have an issue with people saying Blizzard can do what they want though. I mean, yeah, they can, but they still want to appeal to their fans, so they can't pick up literally anyone and have them play. They probably couldn't have gone with an experimental jazz performance from a three-piece, y'know, cus that would royally piss off a lot of the attendees. The concert has definitely become a big part of the Blizzcon experience for people, so there are expectations to it.
There's no such thing as gamer music. Unless you count chiptune cus that totally qualifies.

Rofl this thread. They got metallica to play at blizzcon, thats pretty fuckin' great if you ask me. Even if you don't like the music at least you know its "good" music? These events always have bands playing and most of them are unknown shitters, be thankful they signed a successful band for once.
Or would you rather have Tenacious D back, the dudes who sing about random shit they think is funny?

Sure, Metallica peaked as a band long ago but can't we appreciate the excellent career they have made over the years? Their 80s and early 90s material are still massively popular and they seem to be pretty damn popular at least in Northern Europe. If I was already going to Blizzcon, I would be fucking pumped to see Metallica of all bands to boot. It's just another chance for people to show of their identities. "Look at me, I don't like Metallica, I prefer Iron Maiden". or "Metallica hasn't made anything good since blablabla and I copied this opinion from someone else who I think is cool, so it must be true" Most people eventually outgrow this sort of behaviour where they have to use other peoples work to reflect their own unique identity, as if they have one. Have you thought of the fact that maybe some people just don't like Metallica? No, no, that can't be true. I'm absolutely sure that anyone saying metallica is shit is copying it from someone else who they think is cool, whoever that may be.. Man, am I glad people like me have outgrown such behaviour. I thought nobody actually gets into bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Pink Floyd, AC/DC ect. after the age of 14. As in you can still like it but you outgrow the 'look at me, I like this cool real music' faze. It's used as a gateway into liking music, you just move on to contemporary stuff. O_o see, if you get past these bands one day, you'd like to think that you've evolved and got better in some sense and hence those bands must've been merely a primitive beginning to your music discoveries. It's a defense mechanism. And I fail to see how most of the "contemporary stuff" is superior to metal. You should at least evolve towards classical and jazz music to be an elitist.

On a more serious note, people need to work on their reading comprehension. Most people start listening to these bands in the 10-14 age bracket, it is perfectly normal to still listen to them after that age. At some point you can only listen to the same song so many times and you just go and look for something new. I would find it very strange for some 25 year old to say the only thing he has ever listened to in the last 15 years was Metallica.
edit: Even Justin Bieber listened to Metallica when he was a kid and uses it as inspiration now. its not a big deal.
He said: ''I like rock music, I like Guns N' Roses and Metallica. The Beatles. I like Metallica's 'Fade to Black' and 'One'. It's edgy and emotional with those instruments and electric guitars and stuff.'' http://www.azcentral.com/thingstodo/music/articles/20120704justin-bieber-heavy-metal.html

I find it very strange you would think that people start listening to "these bands" at 10-14, what formal studies are there to indicate that? I grew up listening to Metallica, I still listen to Metallica (hell, the same albums). Obviously I listen to a lot more also (in fact, very little metal), but Metallica are probably one of the more prevalent artists I listen to.

"Terran up the night" cover by Metallica? Im not a big fan of any band ever picked for Blizzcon, but i do enjoy Tenacious D and Metallica. It could go wrong in many ways, so i think its a great choice And staying on topic with current discussion, i like Alanis Morrissete, Pink Floyd, Charlie Parker and Metallica for more than a decade. Im not ashamed. Yes i put those in the same sentence >,< *runs away

Metallica is as good a gig as one could realistically expect. Even if you don't like them, you should be able to respect the magnitude of having such a band play at a gamecon.
