A couple of examples in the $20 or less category:
First I have to agree with intrigue; SC1 battle chest for $20.
Recently, I'll go with the Elder Scrolls 3, 4, 5 bundle from some online store for $20. I put about 180 hours into Morrowind in a few weeks and still have two more games to play!
A much earlier one is probably when I picked up Final Fantasy 7 used for $20 or so a year or two after it came out. I had already borrowed/played it some, but after buying it I played the hell out of it over the next ~15 years.

I found a place where they were selling it for five bucks lol. I couldn't believe it and it came in one of those DVD boxes with collector's edition on it. Ofc I bought it. Over the years I have bought 4 copies of vanilla SC and around 8 copies of Brood War.
What do you know I found it. I meant the best seller's edition but I do own both. The store had this one for five bucks back in 2003 or 2004 I believe:
