True that.
I wish people were capable of making more accurate thread titles (no one was forced to do anything, I think anti-muslim would be a better term than racist.) Sounds like Lowe's didn't want to take the risk of supporting a program which depicted Muslims in a positive light. While I doubt it was necessary for them to do, it wasn't worth the risk from their perspective I guess.

Lol gotto love these sensationalist titles.
Its funny how liberals like to throw the word "racism" at anything that doesnt agree with them, so much that i am really convinced that they dont even know the definition of the word.
Whether or not what this association did was justified they were within their right, the same right that allows other associations to criticize a show for having a cast that is "too white" and demand for ethnic quotas.
Also as far as i understand Lowe didnt had any contractual obligations to the show, so again they were within their right to pull the ads.
They stated that :
"Lowe's has received a significant amount of communication on this program, from every perspective possible. Individuals and groups have strong political and societal views on this topic, and this program became a lightning rod for many of those views. As a result we did pull our advertising on this program,"
So :
- The show is just too political and draws too much polemic, they dont want to take part in it so they pulled the ads. - Apparently not only Florida Family Association" contacted them but other groups and/or individuals.
So i dont really see the angle that is making people foam from their mouths at this. Also note that im not "right wing" or "left wing", i just try to look at things from a balanced point of view and without hypocrisy.

I haven't read through all posts, but isn't this basically akin to groups going after Glenn Beck advertisers, resulting in their ads being pulled from that show ? Seems the same behavior, just from the other side of the political spectrum. Ultimately I don't give a shit. When we're not in the voting booth, we vote with our wallets.

You don't give a shit because you're lazy, although that was pretty easily evidenced by the fact you admit you don't read the posts for further info.
Glenn Beck advertisers pulled out by their own will after Beck called Obama a "racist", an unsubstiantiated claim to this day.
The reality TV show in question shows nothing remotely inflammatory, I don't see how the two can even be related.

The group called the TLC show "propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda's clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values." I couldn't agree more
|
The amount of posts going 'Islam not a race' on the first page alone is depressing.
Who. Fucking. Cares. Prejudice is prejudice, whether you use a technically incorrect umbrella term or not. Address the content not a single word used in the wrong way. You know what he meant.

Well, no. Why do you assume that the two groups putting on the pressure are equals on each side of the political spectrum? I mean, do the people that said this; '"propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda's clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values." sound reasonable to you? * Whereas thinking Glenn Beck is a raving fool is a perfectly reasonable opinion for either side of the spectrum; only the most extreme or indeed the dumbest right wingers think he's anything but (I state this as objective because...come on).
*Context;
The organization attacked advertisers on Degrassi because the teen show included a gay, bisexual and transgender characters, calling it “salacious and irresponsible propaganda,” and also criticized Degrassi for promoting The Trevor Project, an anti-suicide group that specifically focuses on at-risk LGBT youth. “Degrassi’s targeting of children and teens with homosexual and transgender content and promotions which encourage kids to call homosexual hotlines is irresponsible,” the group wrote.
The group went after Campbell’s soup for boosting the “advancement of Islam and Sharia law in the United States” because the company made halal soups and sponsored a conference held by a Canadian Muslim relief organization.
The FFA went after Chaz Bono’s appearance on Dancing With The Stars, saying “Chaz’s appearance on this show looks like nothing more than social engineering to mainstream extreme parts of the homosexual agenda.”

Islam is a religion (not a race) and like all religions I hope they never advertise or recite their fictitious fairy tales. That goes for all religions. I'm okay with this.

Like i said in the previous post (that you in theory just read), i am not apologizing nor condemning the FFA, what they did is whithin their right, many other association and lobbies apply pressure according to their agendas without people throwing a debate about it.
And Lowe is a busyness, they decided to invest in the series but then came the hipotesis that they could lose money by keeping funding it so they pulled out, what is so weird about it ? Its not like we are talking about a major production that has guaranteed returns, so if it was a risky investment to begin with, from a busyness point of view it would make 0 sense to keep backing them up.

This show does sound like propaganda because it portrays an image of islam which does not fit reality.

For fuck's sake, you have religious nutbags protesting everywhere and these guys who seem to be properly assimilated Americans with arabic ancestry and muslim faith are not allowed to make a show on the grounds that they are terrorists. Yes I'm twisting words but as a neighbor of the US I'm getting pretty damn tired of hearing the words Freedom and Terrorism. I've been hearing that crap for 10 years and it's as boring as checking the weather channel!
If anything they should welcome this series as a show of good faith from the Muslim community, to show everyone that they aren't all bad people and most importantly:
TO MOVE ON!!!!
Stay stagnant, America....
This is pretty much the way I feel every time I hear about "Conservative" America's inability to come to terms with the separation of government and religion, or freedom of religion. Sure, corporations aren't the government, but we all know they have influence. Fanaticism clearly exists on both sides of the fence and it seems like the fanatics' voices are still heard clearly over the calm voices of tolerance and sensibility.
The quote from the group pretty much sums up their stupidity. Freedom or no freedom, Islam itself is not a threat to America and for them to make such a ridiculous assertion as the grounds for why advertisers should pull their commercials is completely fucked. It's not true, so why are they free to say it like it is?
Damn right people are pissed off and ashamed at the companies who've pulled their ads as a result of this dipshit group's pressure; they're being spineless if they're caving to it because the group is a joke. If a letter like that arrived on my desk as the pres. of a company like Lowes I would think I was being trolled and throw it in the garbage.

The secular, average america type muslim simply isnt the norm. Islam is in direct incompatibility with secularity and freedom of expression. For every muslim terrorist there are a million muslims who agree with it but wouldnt go up to blowing themselves. Not saying this is the majority, but certainly a huge chunk. Then comes those in between which are indifferent to it. And then theres this fairy tale version of western muslims portrayed in this show, which even if it made up for 35% of them, seems like deceptive to me

This is awful. I would be for it if the group backing this movement was also calling for companies to pull ads from Christian shows, but since that's never been a problem, the irony of the situation kills me. It's unfair to call them racist but it's perfectly fine to call them ignorant and pitifully fearful.
