It's your job as a parent to make sure your kid eats healthy. If the school doesn't serve healthy food, then the onus is on you, where it should be. errrr... what? of course schools should be required to follow certain standards in what food they provide... what planet are you from? + Show Spoiler + lol, planet usa User was warned for this post

"While it is botanically a fruit, it is considered a vegetable for culinary purposes (as well as by the United States Supreme Court, see Nix v. Hedden), which has caused some confusion. The fruit is rich in lycopene, which may have beneficial health effects." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomato "Lycopene may be the most powerful carotenoid quencher of singlet oxygen,[20] being 100 times more efficient in test tube studies of singlet-oxygen quenching action than vitamin E, which in turn has 125 times the quenching action of glutathione (water soluble)[citation needed]. Singlet oxygen produced during exposure to ultraviolet light is a primary cause of skin aging.[21] Given its antioxidant properties, substantial scientific and clinical research has been devoted to a possible correlation between lycopene consumption and general health. Early research suggested some amelioration of cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, and even male infertility.[22]" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycopene#Antioxidant_properties_and_potential_health_benefits BUT GET THOSE FUCKING TOMATOES OUT OF MY KIDS FOOD! NOW! lol Furthermore, a potato is botanically a vegetable, but culinarily speaking a "starch" now you know a potato is not STARCH per se, but it is a "starch" and that line of thinking would obviously be accepted by you correct? Do you think kids can replace their vegetables in their diet with starches (potatoes) and be healthy? Obviously not, so knock it off, it's classification as a fruit is botanical symantics, nothing more.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/eu/8897662/EU-bans-claim-that-water-can-prevent-dehydration.html EU officials concluded that, following a three-year investigation, there was no evidence to prove the previously undisputed fact. Producers of bottled water are now forbidden by law from making the claim and will face a two-year jail sentence if they defy the edict, which comes into force in the UK next month. Last night, critics claimed the EU was at odds with both science and common sense. Conservative MEP Roger Helmer said: “This is stupidity writ large. “The euro is burning, the EU is falling apart and yet here they are: highly-paid, highly-pensioned officials worrying about the obvious qualities of water and trying to deny us the right to say what is patently true. “If ever there were an episode which demonstrates the folly of the great European project then this is it.” I swear, the whole western economy is going to hell in a hand basket and governments are too concerned over whether pizza is a vegetable or water can prevent dehydration. Are they even trying?

Not that misleading... Here's the list of events for those too lazy to read the article (apparently everyone) -School pizza apparently comes with 2tbsp of tomato paste. -This 2tbsp of tomato paste is considered a vegetable, and thus this pizza slice comes with a serving of vegetables. This is important because federally subsidized meals must have certain amount of vegetables or they cannot be served -USDA comes along and says "yo wtf this is dumb, we want 8tbsp of tomato paste to qualify as a vegetable, 2tbsp is not enough" -Frozen food lobbyists realize that if this went unchallenged, then pizza would not be able to be served in schools anymore. This isn't good because they want money; who cares about the children's health. -So they do what they do best, lobby, and no change happens. 2tbsp of tomato paste is still a vegetable, pizza can still be served, and children can still get fat. Oh and they call pizza a healthy food as well. -Yay.

Are they even trying? I have a strong feeling that the news outlets choosing to cover this (not that many) are taking things completely out of context to try to make a story out of nothing. Even just reading the article you posted, they are banning putting it on bottles as a matter of public policy because apparently most cases of serious dehydration are not remedied by drinking water - but rather by addressing the underlying disease or illness causing the dehydration. Classic case of journalists trying to make news out of nothing. You should read it as a kind of entertaining idea and story, but don't take it too seriously.
