![]() Unless anything covered in 2tbs of tomato paste is considered vegetable I don't see a problem at all. I've heard that potato paste maintains potato nutritious values rather well.

Now people can justify their obsession with pizza even more by just telling everyone "oh, its a vegetable" and being okay with it. Pretty sure someone who would stoop that low or be that stupid could find other excuses to eat pizza...

In fact, two table spoons of tomato paste already count as vegetable, so by the media's logic, pizzas already are vegetables. ![]() The new bill initially proposed to change "2 tablespoons of tomato paste counts as vegetable" to "0.5 tablespoons counts as vegetable", but now they're back to the status quo (2 tablespoons instead of 0.5). That is all. But of course it's much more fun to claim that the US now declares pizza a vegetable. People will go to your news site to read about that, regardless of whether it is a made-up fantasy or not. ![]() (Edit: Oops, forgot the source: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hZy7qHYu4-qXuTWRJm192734Gs6w?docId=6b9a38b3ae5c40979b7be9ba8f1ac176 You misread that article. The USDA wanted half a CUP, which is more than you find on a pizza, not half a tablespoon of tomato sauce to be counted as a serving of a vegetable, the bill that was just voted on stopped that from being implemented, keeping it down at two tablespoons. Hence people saying that congress has ruled pizza to be a vegetable, which in the context of school lunches, they have done. If they hadn't passed the bill, it would have gone up to half a cup, which would have made pizza not a vegetable. It annoys me that this post is going to be ignored and people are going to keep treating your post as if it's made of gold.

I didn't ignore your post :D Reading articles is always a good idea, even if someone has good intention when providing summaries.

The other main thing being that the USDA wanted to restrict starchy foods (fries and the like) to two servings a week. But of course, people will continue to accuse others of American bashing, instead of looking at how congress just screwed American children.

And to clear up one of the very simple logical errors in this story and the interpretations. When something doesn't change, you can't view that which was already there as a change just because it was not changed. So to fix your title, while still preserving the sensationalist simplified stupidity of it, it should read "Pizza is still a vegetable (well in the US it is)" There are deep issues with public school cafeterias, and there are deep issues with the incentives of food industries not being in line with public health. But articles on subjects like this do nothing to help either. They simplify the issue and disguise it as "politicians are dumb sellouts and the food industry is evil." It only addresses a symptom, but not the cause.

But I'm glad those Congressmen have our best interests in mind with that categorization. 2 tablespoons of processed tomato paste... should not be considered a vegetable.
