If we are talking Single Malts, I very much doubt that. There are a number of low cost brands from prime distilleries, but they are more the lower quality "leftovers" from the good brand stuff - and usually not as good. Example: Ileach is a low cost Lagavulin

I'm looking for a good bottle of some Lowland single malt to try something new now. As for lowland, I only tried two distilleries so far which are Auchentoshan and Glenkinchie. And as a pretty good bottle in an affordable price range I'd recommend an "Auchentoshan Tree Wood"

Get their Kirkland brand name stuff. The Kirkland 18-year-old single malt is unbeatable at ~$35. I don't know who their supplier is now, but they have used MacCallan in the past. In a blind taste off, a bunch of other scotch drinkers and I liked the Kirkland re-labeled 18 yo better than the MacCallan 18 yo. Pretty damned sweet when you consider that the Kirkland was half the price of the MacCallan.

I bought 3 bottles after trying it in a whiskey bar. Not a huge Lowland fan - I've tried Auchentoshan but it's not nearly as complex as the Isley's I love.

Way too little taste. I have a Uigeadail and a Corryvreckan here too, definitely something you need to try if you like the 10yo.

Question #2: How do you make your old fashioned? My personal favorite is half a sugar cube drenched in bitters, muddled with bourbon (I like Maker's Mark or Four Roses single cask if I'm feeling rich), stirred with ice for a good 20 secs, finally strained into a rocks glass with one large ice-cube - orange peel for garnish. My girlfriend tops with soda but I like the bite without. Anyone else? Or if you have a particular whiskey-based cocktail you'd like to share, I'm all ears.

Had to google that as I've never heard or it or seen it (not Wiser's, that's everywhere here - but legacy specifically) which is embarrassing considering I'm in Canada. Currenlty having a Manhatten (2oz Canadian Rye Whiskey, 1oz Sweet Vermoth, 2 dashes bitters) and loving life.

Picked it up for 48 Euros (1L) at the airport (I believe it's airport-only) and it was well worth the drink. I could compare it to some fusion of bunnahabhain and Highland Park.

It's a sweeter version of straight JD and definitely worth the try if you like honey-flavored things. Much easier for me to drink than straight JD. ![]() It is kinda expensive tho at about $50 us for the big bottle. That shit tastes like cough syrup. If you want sweet stuff you could try some Southern Comfort. It's like sweet tea. Still tastes like cough syrup to me but not as bad.

Compared to well-known whisky I know, i'd place it closest to Talisker. Well rounded, lightly peated. For that reason, I don't like to use the word 'scotch'. There's no reason why whisky from a different country should have to be in a different category, the process isn't unique to Scotland. I have a couple of Dutch whiskys too, so I can't really call it my Scotch collection. edit #2: I don't even know what that's about.. Interesting. I was deciding between trying that and the Yamazaki for my next "scotch" purchase, which I've decided will be one of the big name Japanese ones. I guess I'll try the Yamazaki.

I think it's a really cool Ardbeg, not breaking into top three though (Alligator, Supernova, Gallileo). Maybe 4th. Maybe...
