Good choices! I had a bottle of the quarter cask once, very decent. The lagavulin 16 is always there. I've never tasted that laphroaig PX before. It's 80 euro / 1000 ml at my shop, a bit steep but maybe i'll get it with my next order...the combination of smokey and sherry isn't that common and I like both a lot!

I think I picked it up for around 60-70 pounds, so that sounds about right! It's got a lot of peaty-ness and a nice blend of sweetness, I really enjoy it!

The Quarter Cask is a wonderful mix as well. The smoke and peat are there, but not too heavy. Nice sweet notes and very smooth going down. Me, Kane and Nathanias went to town on a bottle at IEM Toronto. Absolutely fantastic buy.

What's the difference between the two distiller's editions? I have only had the left one so far.

I'd say that shortage mentioned above is due to Buffalo Trace making really good whiskey in the last few years... I had some buffalo trace (the 45% ABV which is no longer stocked in aus) and it was better than some other highly regarded bourbons...

My bartender buddy sells the hell out of Buffalo Trace. For the money it really doesn't get much better.

Its flavor is strong enough to punch through very well in a classic whiskey cocktail which is one of the main reasons he likes it so much.

I can vouch for this, havn't found anything i like more for the price, which here is only like 10$ more than your average bottle of Wisers. Completely worth the extra $10.

As a whiskey noob, I find myself a big fan of Jameson ofc and I've had some fun run-ins with other standard choices but I'm curious what a modern recommendation would be for someone new to the Whiskey scene. I prefer whiskey/scotch type drinks much more than other alcoholic beverages and as a young pup would like to expand my pallette :D

My parents brought me some whiskey from Thailand and I have to admit that it is pretty damn good, haven't tried anything that had such a soft taste.

Ardbeg Kildalton 2014, seems really pricey, do you think it's worth it? 250$ for a 70cl bottle.

Hm, I googled about it and it seems its some kind of bottling for a "good cause", so maybe it's automatically more expensive!
But that price for a "no-age statement" Whiskey... I have to check on my Whiskey Bar today/tomorrow and have to ask, if they have it in stock for a little test. And also what those experts are thinking about that!

//edit:
Oh man, if you can get this for 230$, get it. I stumbled across a shop here in Germany they want 399EUR (~500$) or even more
So much for the initial article that was talking about 150EUR...

I love ardbeg for it's taste, but they can get rid of all these yearly collector's versions. And their silly marketing stuff (your own square foot of ardbeg land, ardbeg in space) too. There's no way I'm paying those amounts for limited editions, of which they could easily make more of I they wanted to.

So we just stocked this at our bar this last week.

It is a bizarre but very tasty whiskey. Tastes like a very strong IPA, which for me isn't a bad thing. It's made from what's essentially distilled Racer 5.

"flavored whisky" sounds like a contradictio in terminis. But that aside, I'd like to try it - but I can't find it anywhere in my country.

Isn't that true for almost everything "limited edition" though?

I ordered one today. We'll see if it was worth it or just money in the sea (is that even an expression in English? ). The 2014 Supernova was released in 1260 bottles here in Sweden. They were gone in 2 seconds. Kildalton was released in 2880 bottles, and there are still over 1000 left 20 minutes after release, interesting enough. Not the same demand on this release it seems.

Gonna order Bowmore Tempest batch V next week! Going from an overpriced Ardbeg to one of the best "cheaper" whisky I've ever tried I'm really looking forward to it. Of course it's not identical to batch III, the only other Tempest I've tried, but it should still be a good whisky.

And yes, the Ardbeg Kildalton was fine, but it was not nearly enough whisky for the price. Win some, lose some I guess.
