Chivas Regal my favourite one, especially the 25yo one.

Also I've tried the Winter Jack once, because it was a gift from one of my clients, pretty decent if you want to try something different I'd say.

If i have to choose one favourite from my collection (i prefer peated whiskys), i think it would be Highland Park 12yo. This one is a great rounded up whisky, so i might consider putting money into an bottle of HP 18yo

Chivas and Jack are the snickers of their respective markets :/

Keep in mind blended scotches can be 80-90% random grains, the same things that would make up a Vodka like smirnoff.

Last summer I went to Mackmyra Whisky Village and took part of the tour of the distillery and the tasting afterwards. Highly recommended! When you taste several different kinds at the same sitting, it's so much easier to taste the differencies even if you are not a tasting pro. I imagine they have similar experiences at all the great single malt distilleries as well.

Mackmyra Whisky Village is located in Gävle, about a 2 hour drive from Stockholm. http://mackmyra.com/

Just had a Glendronach 10 year Tawny port cask and it was beyond smooth. The taste of walnut and syrup was very easy to recognize - if I was only allowed to drink one scotch for the rest of my life this would be a pretty damn good bet.

Hm, interesting!
I already tried Whiskies from a lot of different countries, but Sweden wasn't one of them! I have to ask my local supplier if he gets some hands on that for a little tasting!
My only distillery tour was - funnily enough - in France and Warenghem!
http://www.distillerie-warenghem.com/
It was quite fun! We got a tour outside of the normal touring times (they normally do tours only from April to September or something like that). And of course I took the 8y of them with me!

Brother bringing Octomore 6.2 to our vacation.

Tasted 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 6.1 so I am really looking forward to it.

Please report back with an evaluation sir. I'm a big fan of all the major Islay peated, with simple Laphroaig 10 being my favorite.

I just got a bottle of Bunnahabhain 12 and Bunnahabhain Toiteach. The 12 is fine, it's more of a dinner whisky, sort of similar to something like Balvenie but a little more salty. But the Toiteach totally blew me away. Deliciously peaty and leathery like Ardbeg, but with that salt and sweetness mixed in. If you're big on peat, try this.

I see the Octomore 6.1 is on sale atm for Euro 129. I still think the prices on these are ridiculous, but this is tempting.

yesterday opened a Cardhu 12yo it was a gift from my coordinator in my MSc Study (hes a doctor and got it from a patient of his , and gave it to me afterwards :DDD)

Its funny how i took Cardhu shots at a friends place before (and got drunk as hell , or probably I was before already lol) and its a well known whiskey , but drinking it in a cup with a teaspoon of cold water was a nice experience.

had other whiskeys impress me much more obviously , but the cardhu definitely gave me a good drink.

Funnily enough, Cardhu is most popular in Spain. Apparently that's because they were one of the first to export and market whiskey to Spain specifically. When I visited the Canaries, every bar and restaurant would stock Cardhu without exception even if the selection of whiskey was limited overall. It's also one of my favourites.

I don't have much to say about it, felt more or less like the 6.1 to me. I can't really say for certain since it was months between the two tastings, but from my memory it was not that big of a difference (not like the 4.1 and 4.2 for example.)

However, Octomore never disappoints me since I love the concept and taste, so I enjoyed it a lot Also good meeting my brother again.

Interesting purchase recently, I bought the last 2 bottles at the Total Wine near my house of The Balvenie 15 year old Single Barrel.

This has been discontinued! I know it is fantastic, and has always been a good value even though it's really crept up in the last year. This is the bourbon barrel version, as I greatly prefer whisky matured in bourbon barrels above anything else. But don't worry, The Balvenie has replaced it with a single barrel 15yo from Sherry Casks. They are more expensive (at least $100 US) and not really my style. (Just in case this is something you would be interested in )

Currently I have open an Ardbeg 10 and Bulliet Rye 95 ... both of which are lovely, even though I haven't been drinking for the last couple weeks because of antibiotics/painkillers after a root canal.

If I remember I will post here when I open one of these 15yo.

I picked up a bottle of Laphroaig 18 and initially it was just a peat volcano of decomposing vegetation but now (~150 ml in) it is barely perceptible and quite mundane. Is this because all the volatile aroma compounds already escaped to atmosphere or have I just gotten used to it?

Or you had too much garlic in your dinner.
The unrealistic sound of these propositions is indicative, not of their utopian character, but of the strength of the forces which prevent their realization.

You made a good decision. The 15 is fantastic. Very smooth, very nice balance of sweet and a bit of smoke/zest.

Pick this up at Heathrow, and really really liking it

Also tried some 21 year bushmills and that was incredible.

Thinking about buying a couple more bottles since it's almost year-end
